[Oro-facial-digital syndrome type I: phenotypic variable expression].

Oral-facial-digital syndrome type 1 (OFD1; OMIM #311200) is a developmental disorder transmitted as an X-linked dominant condition with embryonic male lethality. It is associated with malformation of the oral cavity, face, and digits. Furthermore, it is characterized by the presence of milia, hypotrichosis and polycystic kidney disease.

Multinational experience with hypersensitivity drug reactions in Latin America.

Background: Epidemiologic drug allergy data from Latin America are scarce, and there are no studies on specific procedures focusing on this topic in Latin America.

Objective: To assess the clinical characteristics and management of hypersensitivity drug reactions in different Latin American countries.

Methods: An European Network of Drug Allergy questionnaire survey was implemented in 22 allergy units in 11 Latin American countries to report on consecutive patients who presented with a suspected hypersensitivity drug reaction.

Tick paralysis cases in Argentina.

Tick paralysis (TP) occurs worldwide and is caused by a neurotoxin secreted by engorged female ticks that affects the peripheral and central nervous system. The clinical manifestations range from mild or nonspecific symptoms to manifestations similar to Guillain-Barré syndrome, bulbar involvement, and death in 10% of the patients. [Results of cephalic pancreaticoduodenectomy for ampullary carcinoma. Analysis of 18 consecutive cases].

[Choledochal cyst IV A type with primary ductal stricture].

[Diabetes mellitus mortality in the Province of Córdoba: during the 1986-1995 period].

[Congenital dilatation of extrahepatic bile ducts].

[Microcystic serous cystadenoma of pancreas. Clinicopathological and surgical features].

Edmonton injector: use in Córdoba, Argentina.

Fourteen patients with advanced cancer received intermittent subcutaneous injection of morphine using an Edmonton Injector (EI). Twelve patients used the system at home. The minimal dose of morphine was 15 mg every 4 hr and the maximal dose was 90 mg every 4 hr.

Action of nedocromil sodium in exercise-induced asthma in adolescents.

In view of the high incidence of exercise-induced asthma (EIA) in asthmatic adolescents and adults, the aim of the present study was to examine the preventive effect of nedocromil sodium administered prior to an exercise provocation test. The study involved 30 adolescents with EIA, aged between 14 and 19 years, who attended gymnastics classes at the Children's Hospital and Aerobics School. Baseline spirometry, six-minute treadmill running and spirometry for 7-15 minutes post-exercise were performed.

[Evaluation of a new punction needle for transthoracic pulmonary biopsy].

A new percutaneous needle for pulmonary biopsy is described in this report, as well as its clinical applications--showing the different types of material that may be obtained--and the restrictions for its use. The results of using this biopsy needle were examined in 29 cases. Among these patients diagnoses of neoplastic processes--an accuracy of 82.

[Angiolymphoid hyperplasia: clinico-pathological considerations].

Two cases of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia or Kimura's disease are presented. A nodular and papuoid pattern of presentation was observed. The first one is the histologic expression of the vascular and cellular components which were found in the subcutaneous fat whereas the latter was in the dermis.

[Intestinal duplication. Report of 2 cases].

Intestinal duplications are rare and they result from embryological failures in the canalization of the gastrointestinal tract. This paper presents a case of ileal intestinal duplication and its differential diagnosis from Meckel's diverticulum. Besides, a case of rectal duplication in an asymptomatic elder patient is presented.

[Experimental pancreas transplantation].

Experimental pancreatic transplantation was performed in dogs using different surgical techniques. Ten dogs underwent whole organ graft with diversion of exocrine secretion by anastomosis of duodenal segment to bladder (six animals) and of duodenum to a jejunal loop (four animals). Segmental pancreatic grafts were performed in 10 dogs with ductal filling with polymer in six animals and duct ligation in four dogs.

[Incidence of intrahepatic and subcapsular hematomas after percutaneous needle biopsy].

Intrahepatic and subcapsular hematomas are described as complications of percutaneous liver biopsy. Even though, its incidence is not clearly established. Through this study we try to set which is the real incidence of this complication in our medium.

[Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma: a clinical report with paraneoplastic hyperthyroidism (apropos of a case)].

The case of a 17 years old female patient with fibrolamellar hepatocarcinoma and several paraneoplastic signs is reported. The clinical picture was hyperthyroidism like; subsequently metastasis lesions in lungs and muscular tissue (gluteal region) developed. Hyperthyroidism as clinical picture has been reported only once before us for the available literature reveals.
