Bowel obstruction due to video capsule endoscopy in a patient with Crohn's disease.

Background: The retention of the endoscopic capsule (EC) is a serious complication and exceptionally, acute intestinal obstruction is conditioned.

Clinical Case: 64 years-old man, previously treated by gastroenterology for Crohn's disease. With good initial response to pharmacological treatment for 6 weeks, subsequently with the onset of pain and symptoms not explained by colonoscopy.

IntroducciÓn: La fuga de anastomosis (FA) en cirugía colorrectal es una complicación temida por el incremento de la morbimortalidad. La tasa de FA se reporta desde el 1 hasta el 25%. Realizar el diagnóstico de forma temprana es difícil.

Changing trends in serotypes of S. pneumoniae isolates causing invasive and non-invasive diseases in unvaccinated population in Mexico (2000-2014).

Objective: Introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) targeted against a limited number of serotypes substantially decreased invasive (IPD) and non-invasive pneumococcal diseases (NIPD) but it was accompanied by non-vaccine type replacement disease. After 9 years of introduction of PCV in Mexico, we analyze the evidence of the indirect effects on IPD and NIPD serotype distribution among groups not targeted to receive the vaccine.

Methods: From January 2000 to December 2014, pneumococcal strains isolated from IPD and NIPD cases from patients ≥5 years of age from participant hospitals of the SIREVA II (Sistema Regional de Vacunas) network were serotyped.

[Total serum calcium and corrected calcium as severity predictors in acute pancreatitis].

Objectives: To evaluate total serum calcium (TC) and albumin-corrected calcium (ACC) as prognostic severity factors in acute pancreatitis (AP).

Methods: Ninety-six patients were included in the study. They were diagnosed with AP and admitted to the Hospital Regional de Veracruz within the time frame of January 2010 to December 2012.
