The association between maternal and foetal factors with birth weight discordance in twins from Yucatan, Mexico.

Birth weight discordance (BWD) is not an uncommon event in twin pregnancies and can be associated with maternal and newborn characteristics. We aimed to analyse the association between maternal sociodemographic and newborn characteristics with BWD in twin infants born in Yucatan, Mexico, during 2008-2017 ( = 2091 pairs). BWD was calculated as the percentage of birth weight of the heavier twin.

Factors associated with influenza vaccination acceptance in Mexican healthcare workers: A multicenter cross-sectional study.

Adherence of healthcare workers (HCWs) to influenza vaccination is far from optimal despite its being the most effective intervention for preventing influenza. In order to evaluate factors associated with influenza vaccination acceptance among Mexican HCWs during the 2017-2018 influenza season, a multicenter cross-sectional study spanning public and private hospitals was conducted. Participants were consecutively invited to answer a self-administered questionnaire.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Compared with adults, children with SARS-CoV-2 infection may have fewer and less severe symptoms. Gastrointestinal symptoms are commonly reported in children, sometimes as the only manifestation of the disease, and most often manifest as anorexia, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, or abdominal pain.

Prostate cancer early detection among primary care physicians in Mexico: A cross-sectional study.

Aim: This study aims to assess primary care physicians (PCPs) knowledge and skills regarding prostate cancer early detection (PCa-ED).

Materials And Methods: A survey about knowledge and skills of PCa-ED was delivered to PCP. Logistic regression analysis was conducted for the propensity of PCP to test prostatic specific antigen (PSA) on asymptomatic men.

Is There an Oncological Benefit of Performing Bilateral Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection in Patients with Penile Cancer and Inguinal Lymph Node Metastasis?

We aim to review the literature for studies investigating the oncological outcomes of patients with penile cancer (PC) undergoing bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) in the presence of inguinal lymph node metastasis (LNM) who are at risk of harboring pelvic metastasis. A search of English language literature was performed using the PubMed-MEDLINE database up to 3 December 2020 to identify articles addressing bilateral PLND in PC patients. Eight articles investigating bilateral PLND met our inclusion criteria.

[Overview of the interstitial lung disease in the Southeast of Mexico].

Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) corresponds to a heterogeneous group of pathologies that differ in etiology with common clinical and radiological manifestations. In Latin America and Mexico, reports are scarce and the need for studies to understand the scenario is emphasized.

Objective: To analyze a multidimensional profile in patients with interstitial lung disease in Yucatan.

Pulmonary function and functional capacity in COVID-19 survivors with persistent dyspnoea.

The purpose of this study was to examine the physiological mechanisms of persistent dyspnoea in COVID-19 survivors. Non-critical patients (n = 186) with varying degrees of COVID-19 severity reported persistent symptoms using a standardized questionnaire and underwent pulmonary function and 6-minute walk testing between 30 and 90 days following the onset of acute COVID-19 symptoms. Patients were divided into those with (n = 70) and without (n = 116) persistent dyspnoea.

Dietary Strategies by Foods with Antioxidant Effect on Nutritional Management of Dyslipidemias: A Systematic Review.

Nutrition plays a fundamental role in the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemias and its oxidative-related complications. Currently, there is evidence about the beneficial effects of isolated antioxidants or foods enriched or added with antioxidant compounds. However, the application of the natural foods is more integrated than the analysis of a single nutrient.

The low-harm score for predicting mortality in patients diagnosed with COVID-19: A multicentric validation study.

Objective: We sought to determine the accuracy of the LOW-HARM score (Lymphopenia, Oxygen saturation, White blood cells, Hypertension, Age, Renal injury, and Myocardial injury) for predicting death from coronavirus disease 2019) COVID-19.

Methods: We derived the score as a concatenated Fagan's nomogram for Bayes theorem using data from published cohorts of patients with COVID-19. We validated the score on 400 consecutive COVID-19 hospital admissions (200 deaths and 200 survivors) from 12 hospitals in Mexico.

Effect of the intake of dietary protein on insulin resistance in subjects with obesity: a randomized controlled clinical trial.

Purpose: We compared the effect of diets with different amounts and sources of dietary protein on insulin sensitivity (IS) in subjects with obesity and insulin resistance (IR).

Methods: Eighty subjects with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m) and IR (Matsuda index < 4.3 and HOMA-IR ≥ 2.

Background: The unexpected coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has spread worldwide rapidly, developing into a global health crisis. At the same time, it has seriously impacted the daily activities in all the fields of urology.

Objective: To better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on clinical, academic, and scientific activities as well as on the quality of life of urologists from the main centers in Europe.

Risk Factors for Mortality in Hospitalized Patients with COVID-19: An Overview in a Mexican Population.

Background: Currently, Mexico ranks third worldwide in mortality due to coronavirus disease pandemic 2019 (COVID-19) and reliable information is scarce, with the available data focused on epidemiological characteristics. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with mortality and outcomes in hospitalized Mexican patients with COVID-19.

Methods: We prospectively assessed patients admitted to a COVID-19 reference center in southeast Mexico between March 28 and June 30, 2020.

Efficacy of the Endoscopic Combined Intrarenal Surgery for the Treatment of a Staghorn Calculus in Crossed Fused Renal Ectopia.

Crossed fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is an unusual anomaly in which both kidneys lie fused on one side, with double pelvis and ureters draining into both sides of the bladder. Complex renal stones are a considerable challenge to endourologists, and when a staghorn stone is associated with abnormal anatomy, its treatment is even more difficult. Today there is no consensus about the right treatment for complex renal stones in CFRE.

Results of the fecal immunochemical test in a colorectal cancer screening program in Mexico.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the main five causes of morbidity and mortality by oncologic diseases in our country and worldwide. Recently, fecal immunochemical test (FIT) has proven to be a noninvasive screening test that allows to select patients most likely to have a pre-malign lesion in order to perform a colonoscopy.

Objective: To report the findings of a CRC screening program using FIT in our country population.

Clinical manifestations and long-term outcomes in three ocular rosacea cases treated at a highly specialized hospital in southeast México.

Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder that has been associated with unspecific etiological factors and diverse systemic manifestations. Cutaneous rosacea usually evolves to ocular rosacea in 6 to 72% of patients. In the absence of specific criteria to characterize this pathology, ocular rosacea can mean a diagnostic challenge.

Objective: To review recent and relevant information regarding the use of high-power (HPL) and low-power (LPL) Holmium:YAG lasers (Ho:YAG) in retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) for lithotripsy. METHODS: A PubMed/Embase search was conducted and recent and relevant papers on Ho:YAG for RIRS were reviewed.

Results: Settings for Ho:YAG are pulse energy (PE), pulse frequency (PF), and pulse width.

Assessment of Executive Function in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury with the Wisconsin Card-Sorting Test.

This review aimed at providing a brief and comprehensive summary of recent research regarding the use of the Wisconsin Card-Sorting Test (WCST) to assess executive function in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). A bibliographical search, performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and PsycInfo, targeted publications from 2010 to 2020, in English or Spanish. Information regarding the studies' designs, sample features and use of the WCST scores was recorded.

Psychotherapy for Physical Pain in Patients with Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review.

Objective: To provide a brief and comprehensive summary of the recent evidence from clinical trials testing psychotherapeutic interventions in patients with fibromyalgia with particular interest in their possible effect on physical pain.

Methods: Bibliographical search was performed in PubMed, PsycInfo, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases. Content of the manuscripts was studied to obtain, if available, the following information: year of publication, location of the research team, design, type of psychotherapeutic intervention tested, pain measures, and a brief description of the psychotherapy, groups, and outcomes regarding physical pain.

Oxalate Content and Antioxidant Activity of Different Ethnic Foods.

Objective: There is not enough information on the classification of oxalate content in several foods, particularly in ethnic foods, to recommend their consumption in subjects with urolithiasis (UL). The objective of the present study was to generate reliable information on the oxalate content and antioxidant activity in different foods and classify them by very low, low, medium, high and very high oxalate content and antioxidant activity.

Methods: The oxalate content of 109 foods including ethnic foods was assessed by an enzymatic assay, and the antioxidant activity was measured by the oxygen radical absorbance capacity to determine the oxalate/antioxidant activity ratio.

A Cecropia peltata ethanolic extract reduces insulin resistance and hepatic steatosis in rats fed a high-fat diet.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cecropia peltata L. (CP) leaves have been used in Latin American traditional medicine by its purported hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the metabolic effects of an ethanolic extract of CP leaves in rats fed a high-fat diet and 10% of sugar in water (HFD).

Radiomics Applications in Renal Tumor Assessment: A Comprehensive Review of the Literature.

Radiomics texture analysis offers objective image information that could otherwise not be obtained by radiologists' subjective radiological interpretation. We investigated radiomics applications in renal tumor assessment and provide a comprehensive review. A detailed search of original articles was performed using the PubMed-MEDLINE database until 20 March 2020 to identify English literature relevant to radiomics applications in renal tumor assessment.

Quality of life in patients with kidney stones: translation and validation of the Spanish Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life Questionnaire.

The Spanish version of the Wisconsin Stone Quality of Life (WISQOL) questionnaire was developed and validated. A double-back translation of the WISQOL was conducted and syntactic amendments were made, resulting in the Spanish version of the WISQOL (S-WISQOL) which then went through a readability analysis. Stone formers from two hospitals in Mexico (Merida and Monterrey) filled in the S-WISQOL and the Short Form 36 (SF36).
