Background: Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a condition caused by abnormal contact between the femur head and the acetabulum, which damages the labrum and articular cartilage. While the prevalence and the type of impingement may vary across human groups, the variability among populations with short height or with a high prevalence of overweight has not yet been explored. Latin American studies have rarely been conducted in reference to this condition, including the Mayan and mestizo populations from the Yucatan Peninsula.

Challenges With the Intolerance of Biologics in Severe Eosinophilic Asthma: The Risk of Exacerbations Is Time-Dependent With the Rise of Eosinophils.

Patients with severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) can benefit from biologic therapy but some subjects may present an immune-mediated side effect. These patients will not meet the treatment goals and might have an increased risk of exacerbations. Monitoring these patients by determining blood eosinophil (BE) levels could be one of the tools that may allow a follow-up to prevent a worsening of asthma or exacerbations.

Delayed Diagnosis of Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia in Low-Middle-Income Countries: The Clinical Value of Nasal Nitric Oxide.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare lung disease that causes chronic oto-sino-pulmonary disease with irreversible lung damage. Several diagnostic methods exist, but electron microscopy (EM) is the most accurate tool, as it visualizes alterations in the axonemal ultrastructure; however, some patients may present a normal ciliary structure. Therefore, other diagnostic methods have been promoted, such as genetic studies or immunofluorescence of specific markers; nonetheless, they are not very accessible and expensive and even present a high level of false negatives.

The long-term effects of COVID-19 on lung function are not understood, especially for periods extending beyond 1 year after infection. This observational, longitudinal study investigated lung function in Mexican Hispanics who experienced severe COVID-19, focusing on how the length of recovery affects lung function improvements. At a specialized COVID-19 follow-up clinic in Yucatan, Mexico, lung function and symptoms were assessed in patients who had recovered from severe COVID-19.

The sternoclavicular joint dislocation is a very infrequent injury that can put the patient's life at risk if it is not diagnosed and treated properly. This can present as an anterior or posterior dislocation, the latter being less common and more dangerous due to its proximity to visceral structures of the thoracic cavity. Herein, we present the case of a 19-year-old male athlete diagnosed with a posterior dislocation of the right sternoclavicular joint due to indirect trauma during a soccer match, who was successfully treated with a figure-of-eight cerclage with high-resistance sutures plus an InternalBrace technique.

We aimed to determine the acute effects of protein ingestion from different dietary sources on the postprandial metabolic response, amino acid levels, and circulating miRNA expression in adults with obesity and IR. This clinical trial included adults with obesity and IR who consumed (1) animal-source protein (AP; calcium caseinate) or (2) vegetable-source protein (VP; soy protein isolate).

Objective: Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) growth remains a process not fully understood. The objective of this study was to analyze risk factors associated with changes in AAA diameter in a Mexican cohort.

Methods: An observational study in which we analyzed the entirely of patients in which an AAA was reported in a Computed Tomography (CT) study from 2014 to 2021 who had a follow-up CT.

Retrocarotid dissection technique compared to the caudocranial approach for the surgical treatment of carotid body tumors: A 15-year experience.

Introduction: Carotid body tumors are rare neoplasms with malignant potential. We aim to follow up on our initial experience published in 2015 and compare the occurrence of complications and postoperative outcomes with the use of retrocarotid dissection (RCD) against the standard caudocranial (SCCD) technique.
