A 67-year-old male diabetic patient with systemic arterial hypertension was admitted to the emergency department with a necrotic ulcer in the left external malleolus and no palpable popliteal or pedal pulses. Arterial Duplex ultrasound identified femoropopliteal occlusion, with popliteal refilling below the knee and a patent peroneal artery. An endovascular procedure was performed, requiring retrograde access to the popliteal artery to re-establish blood flow and deploy a popliteal stent.

Pleomorphic adenoma, considered the most frequent benign mixed neoplasm of the minor salivary glands, occurs mainly in the region of the hard palate, with slight predilection in females and peak of incidence between the third and fifth decades of life. An increase in recurrence rates has been associated with the histopathological variants of the tumor, cellular characteristics, stroma, and capsule rupture during surgical removal of the lesion. The present case report aims to describe the surgical approach performed on the patient, a 45-year-old woman with a recurrent Pleomorphic Adenoma (PA) in the region of the hard palate on the right side, 10 years after initial enucleation of the lesion; her main complaint was an increase in volume in the palatal region.

We describe the techniques available for retention of implant-supported prostheses: bar-clips, O-rings, and magnets. We present reported preferences and, although this is limited by the heterogeneity of methods used and patients studied, we hope we have identified the best retention systems for maxillofacial prosthetic implants. If practitioners know the advantages and disadvantages of each system, they can choose the most natural and comfortable prosthesis.

The presence of femoral vein (FV) duplicity has potential influence in the misdiagnosis of deep vein thrombosis. Also, FVs are suitable vascular substitutes, especially in the substitution of infected prosthetic grafts. The objective of this study was to describe the prevalence, anatomic patterns and characteristics of FV duplicity in adult individuals by duplex scan examination.

Objective: To describe and test a practical protocol to measure common carotid intima-media thickness that uses the combined values of two longitudinal examination angles to increase sensitivity.
Method: Between February and September 2005, 206 patients underwent duplex scan examination of carotid vessels, and the intima-media thickness of 407 common carotids were measured in three angles: transversal, longitudinal posterolateral, and anterolateral, with three intima-media thickness measurements for each near and far wall. In addition to numbers obtained from the three angles of measurement, a fourth visual perspective was obtained by combining the intima-media thickness results of posterolateral and anterolateral longitudinal views and considering the thickest wall measurement.
