Background: There is an unmet need for effective therapies in pretreated advanced biliary tract cancer. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of nanoliposomal irinotecan and fluorouracil plus leucovorin compared with fluorouracil plus leucovorin as second-line treatment for biliary tract cancer.
Methods: NALIRICC was a multicentre, open-label, randomised, phase 2 trial done in 17 German centres for patients aged 18 years or older, with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-1, metastatic biliary tract cancer, and progression on gemcitabine-based therapy.

Thromboembolic events are common in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET). However, the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the increased thrombotic risk remain to be determined. Here, we perform the first phenotypical characterization of platelet expression using single-cell mass cytometry in six ET patients and six age- and sex-matched healthy individuals.

Lipid composition is conserved within sub-cellular compartments to maintain cell function. Lipidomic analyses of liver, muscle, white and brown adipose tissue (BAT) mitochondria revealed substantial differences in their glycerophospholipid (GPL) and free cholesterol (FC) contents. The GPL to FC ratio was 50-fold higher in brown than white adipose tissue mitochondria.

Objective: Somatic complaints are frequently named by emerging adults in many countries, but psychological factors contributing to the high level of these often medically unexplained symptoms have received little attention. This study examines the influence of shared risk factors on somatic complaints in a culturally diverse sample.
Methods And Measures: In a cross-cultural survey study of 2,113 emerging adults (mean age = 22.

Key Points: Despite new treatments for CKD, kidney failure risk remains high, particularly where albuminuria remains. We report a prespecified pooled analysis of two randomized controlled trials assessing a soluble guanylate cyclase activator for CKD. Avenciguat led to improvements in albuminuria in patients with CKD with/without type 2 diabetes mellitus, with acceptable safety.

Objective: Recent neuroscientific models suggest that functional bodily symptoms can be attributed to perceptual dysregulation in the central nervous system. Evidence for this hypothesis comes from patients with functional dizziness, who exhibit marked sensorimotor processing deficits during eye-head movement planning and execution. Similar findings in eye-head movement planning in patients with irritable bowel syndrome confirmed that these sensorimotor processing deficits represent a shared, transdiagnostic mechanism.

From its beginnings in 2018, the international elite-master program of at was guided by two convictions: First, excellent research depends not only on the mediation of scientific knowledge and skills, but also on a multifaceted understanding of science itself. Second, teaching must recognize and support not only student's growing expertise but also their personal and professional development. To this end, the module was designed.

Most previous studies evaluated outcomes of twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) without considering the coexistence of selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR). The objectives of this study were to compare twin survival and pregnancy complications after laser therapy of TTTS with and without sFGR. For this purpose, a retrospective cohort study including 98 monochorionic diamniotic twins and three dichorionic triamniotic triplets treated in a single tertiary center was conducted.

Purpose: The recent restriction on the use of fluoroquinolones for prophylaxis by the European Commission has left a gap in clear recommendations for practical antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP) for transrectal prostate biopsy (TRPB). This analysis investigated the viability of cotrimoxazole for PAP in TRPB.
Methods: This analysis included n = 697 patients who underwent TRPB for suspected prostate cancer (PCa).

Introduction And Objectives: Adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy for completely resected non-small cell lung cancer is associated with modest improvement in survival; nevertheless, no validated biomarker exists for predicting the benefit or harm of adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy.
Materials And Methods: We simultaneously measured 27 cytokines in operative tumor specimens from a discovery cohort (n = 97) by multiplex immunoassay; half of the patients received adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy, and the other half were observed. We tested possible prognostic and predictive factors in multivariate Cox models for overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS), and a tree-based method was applied to detect predictive factors with respect to RFS.

Purpose: The objective examination of the Post-COVID syndrome (PCS) remains difficult due to heterogeneous definitions and clinical phenotypes. The aim of the study was to verify the functionality and correlates of a recently developed PCS score.
Methods: The PCS score was applied to the prospective, multi-center cross-sectoral cohort (in- and outpatients with SARS-CoV-2 infection) of the "National Pandemic Cohort Network (NAPKON, Germany)".

Immune cell phenotyping frequently detects lineage-unrelated receptors. Here, we report that surface receptors can be transferred from primary macrophages to CD4 T cells and identify the Fcγ receptor CD32 as driver and cargo of this trogocytotic transfer. Filamentous CD32 nanoprotrusions deposit distinct plasma membrane patches onto target T cells.

The mouse pathogen is utilized as a model organism for studying infections caused by the human pathogens enteropathogenic (EPEC) and enterohemorrhagic (EHEC) and to elucidate mechanisms of mucosal immunity. In response to infection, innate lymphoid cells and T cells secrete interleukin (IL)-22, a cytokine that promotes mucosal barrier function. IL-22 plays a pivotal role in enabling mice to survive and recover from infection, although the exact mechanisms involved remain incompletely understood.

Background: Hemodialysis patients have reduced serologic immunity after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination compared to the general population and an increased risk of morbidity and mortality when exposed to SARS-CoV-2.
Methods: Sixty-six hemodialysis patients immunized four times with the original SARS-CoV-2 vaccines (BNT162b2, mRNA-1273) either received a booster with the adapted Comirnaty Original/Omicron BA.4-5 vaccine 8.

(1) Background: Critically ill patients are frequently diagnosed with pulmonary Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV) reactivation, which then can lead to HSV bronchopneumonitis and is associated with higher mortality and longer mechanical ventilation. For the particular subgroup of critically ill patients with acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF), however, the impact of HSV reactivation is unknown. We investigated the impact of HSV reactivation in these patients.

Background: The importance of several scapulothoracic muscles, including trapezius and serratus anterior, in maintaining physiological scapula kinematics has been highlighted in the past. However, the relationship between the scapula and the latissimus dorsi muscle remains unclear. Our clinical surgical observation is that the latissimus dorsi does not directly attach but rather runs superficial to the inferior angle of the scapula.
