Optimization of a commercial portal dose image prediction algorithm for pre-treatment verifications of plans using unflattened photon beams.

Background: The aim was to improve the portal dosimetry-based quality assurance results of conventional treatment plans by adjusting the multileaf collimator (MLC) dosimetric leaf gap (DLG) and transmission (T) values of the anisotropic analytic algorithm (AAA) used for portal dose image prediction (PDIP).

Experience with patient-specific quality assurance of dosimetrist-led online adaptive prostate SBRT.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the results of the local pre-treatment verifications of online adaptive prostate SBRT plans performed by dosimetrists METHODS AND MATERIALS: Prostate SBRT treatments are planned in our department using an online adaptive method developed and validated by our group. The adaptive plans were computed on the daily CBCT scan using the Acuros XB v. 16.

[Improving the nutritional care of oncology patients - Validation of a multidisciplinary protocol in the Spanish clinical setting].

Introduction: malnutrition is a very frequent problem in oncology patients and may have serious repercussions. Adequate nutritional management is cost-effective in terms of health and survival in this population, but it requires multidisciplinary coordination, specific training, and continuous follow-up. Objective: to validate the applicability and efficacy of a multidisciplinary nutritional support protocol in oncology patients.

Notable surgical trials in gynecologic oncology: a 10-year overview.

In the last decade, we have witnessed important advances in novel therapeutics in the management of gynecologic cancers. These studies have built on the findings from preexisting data and have provided incremental contributions leading to changes that have not only impacted the accuracy of cancer detection and its metastatic components but also led to improvements in oncologic outcomes and quality of life. Key landmark trials have changed the standard of care in cervix, uterine, and ovarian cancer.

Introduction:  Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) poses a complex challenge and often leads to postthrombotic syndrome (PTS), a debilitating complication. The emergence of venous stents offers a potential preventive avenue against this complication. This study aimed to provide consensus recommendations on the use of venous stent for DVT.

Impact of Off-Time on Quality of Life in Parkinson's Patients and Their Caregivers: Insights from Social Media.

Introduction: In Parkinson's disease (PD), the quality of life of both patients and caregivers is affected. While key issues relating to quality of life may not emerge in conversations with healthcare professionals (HCPs), unguarded social media conversations can provide insight into how people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) and their caregivers are affected. We conducted a qualitative and quantitative netnographic study of PD conversations posted on social media sites over a 12-month period.

GECOP-MMC: phase IV randomized clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) with mytomicin-C after complete surgical cytoreduction in patients with colon cancer peritoneal metastases.

Background: The French PRODIGE 7 trial, published on January 2021, has raised doubts about the specific survival benefit provided by HIPEC with oxaliplatin 460 mg/m (30 minutes) for the treatment of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer. However, several methodological flaws have been identified in PRODIGE 7, specially the HIPEC protocol or the choice of overall survival as the main endpoint, so its results have not been assumed as definitive, emphasizing the need for further research on HIPEC. It seems that the HIPEC protocol with high-dose mytomicin-C (35 mg/m) is the preferred regime to evaluate in future clinical studies.

Reaching a consensus on the definition of "difficult" cholecystectomy among Spanish experts. A Delphi project. A qualitative study.

Background: Being able to predict preoperatively the difficulty of a cholecystectomy can increase safety and improve results. However, there is a need to reach a consensus on the definition of a cholecystectomy as "difficult". The aim of this study is to achieve a national expert consensus on this issue.

Vaccination in pregnancy against pertussis and seasonal influenza: key learnings and components from high-performing vaccine programmes in three countries: the United Kingdom, the United States and Spain.

Background: Pertussis and seasonal influenza are responsible for significant maternal, neonatal, and infant morbidity and mortality, but vaccine coverage rates (VCR) for both pertussis (administered as a tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis [Tdap] vaccination) and seasonal influenza in pregnancy remain generally low. Only a small number of countries, including Spain, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (US), have high Tdap and seasonal influenza VCRs in pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to identify the key factors that contributed to the high VCRs observed in these countries.

Dataset of the vascular -earning during the -19 pandemic (EL-COVID) survey.

This dataset supports the findings of the vascular e-Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic survey (the EL-COVID survey). The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union was taken into consideration in all steps of data handling. The survey was approved by the institutional ethics committee of the Primary Investigator and an online English survey consisting of 18 questions was developed ad-hoc.

A new standardized nomenclature in Otorhinolaryngology: Criteria and quantitative and qualitative evaluation indicators of medical procedures.

Purpose: At the request of the Organización Médica Colegial, we have elaborated a new nomenclature of medical and surgical procedures in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS) based on the International Classification of Diseases ICD-9-MC. We have defined new quantitative and qualitative criteria and indicators that may allow scale and remuneration to be determined in private medical practice.

Methods: Obsolete processes were eliminated from the current list of nomenclature, new ones were added or updated, procedures from other specialties that typically belong to ENT-HNS were imported, descriptions were modified accordingly, and others were transferred from one group to another for reasons of surgical complexity.

Seminal vesicles tumor: Rare localization of lymphoma. A case report.

A case affected by a seminal vesicles secondary tumor to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is reported. Seminal vesicles neoplasms are scarce, and they can be classified into primary or secondary. The most common case is their involvement by extension of adjacent tumors, which are clinically nonspecific.

Development and Psychometric Validation of a Screening Questionnaire to Detect Excessive Menstrual Blood Loss That Interferes in Quality of Life: The SAMANTA Questionnaire.

Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) affects up to 35% of women at some point in their lives, and has an important impact on their quality of life (QoL). Current techniques to assess and quantify menstrual blood loss are inconvenient and the correlation between actual and perceived blood loss is poor. This study aimed to develop and validate a screening questionnaire in Spanish to identify HMB in women of reproductive age.

Immunogenicity, transplacental transfer of pertussis antibodies and safety following pertussis immunization during pregnancy: Evidence from a randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

Background: Pertussis immunization during pregnancy is recommended in many countries. Data from large randomized controlled trials are needed to assess the immunogenicity, reactogenicity and safety of this approach.

Methods: This phase IV, observer-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial assessed immunogenicity, transplacental transfer of maternal pertussis antibodies, reactogenicity and safety of a reduced-antigen-content diphtheria-tetanus-three-component acellular pertussis vaccine (Tdap) during pregnancy.

[Recommendations of the GARIN group for dietary managing of patient with chronic kidney disease].

Background and objectives: by means of this update, the GARIN working group aims to define its position regarding the dietary treatment of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In this area there are many aspects of uncertainty. Material and methods: bibliographical review and specific questions in advance were discussed and answered at a meeting in the form of conclusions.

Analysis of a nurses' knowledge survey on the use of physical restraint in intensive care units.

Objectives: To determine nurses' knowledge level regarding physical restraint use in intensive care units and its associated factors.

Method: A cross-sectional multicentre study was carried out in 12 critical care units of 8 hospitals in Spain (n=354 nurses). An 'ad-hoc' knowledge survey was developed, and their content was validated by experts.

Ultrasound-guided Retrieval of Mature Oocytes for Fertility Preservation During Laparoscopic Oophorectomy: A Case Report.

Background: Cryopreservation of oocytes is an efficient method of fertility preservation (FP) that can be applied in women suffering from gynecologic conditions that menace their reproductive future. Collection of oocytes becomes challenging in some scenarios, like the possibility of an ovarian cancer, the "" harvest of oocytes for FP, aspirating follicles directly from the ovarian specimen already excised by laparotomy or laparoscopy and it is an option for these cases.

Case Presentation: In the present case report, the case of a patient with an adnexal mass suspected to be a recurrent teratoma was described who referred to our Assisted Reproduction Unit in Hospital Quironsalud Malaga for FP counseling.
