SOLTI-1904 ACROPOLI TRIAL: efficacy of spartalizumab monotherapy across tumor-types expressing high levels of mRNA.

Future Oncol

October 2022

CIBERONC (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Cáncer), Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid (Spain).

Improved selection of cancer patients who are most likely to respond to immune checkpoint inhibitors remains an unmet clinical need. Recently, a positive correlation between levels of mRNA and clinical outcome in response to PD1 blockade across diverse tumor histologies has been confirmed in several datasets. ACROPOLI is a parallel cohort, non-randomized, phase II study that aims to evaluate the efficacy of the anti-PD1 immune checkpoint inhibitor spartalizumab as monotherapy in metastatic patients with solid tumors that express high levels of (cohort 1; n = 111).

Recommendations for transfusion of blood products in neonatology.

An Pediatr (Engl Ed)

July 2022

Servicio de Neonatología, Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago, Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Spain; Institudo de Investigaciones Sanitarias de Santiago (IDIS), Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Spain. Electronic address:

The scant evidence on the use of transfusions in neonatal care explains the limitations of current clinical guidelines. Despite this, in this document we explore the most recent evidence to make recommendations for the clinical practice. The prevention of anaemia of prematurity, the use of protocols and restrictive transfusion strategies constitute the best approach for clinicians in this field.

Clinical, histological and molecular profiling of different stages of alcohol-related liver disease.

Gut

September 2022

Center for Liver Diseases, Pittsburgh Liver Research Center, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Objective: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) ranges from never-decompensated ALD (ndALD) to the life-threatening decompensated phenotype, known as alcohol-related hepatitis (AH). A multidimensional study of the clinical, histological and molecular features of these subtypes is lacking.

Design: Two large cohorts of patients were recruited in an international, observational multicentre study: a retrospective cohort of patients with ndALD (n=110) and a prospective cohort of patients with AH (n=225).

Cycle monitoring via ultrasound and serum-based hormonal assays during medically assisted reproduction (MAR) can provide information on ovarian response and assist in optimizing treatment strategies in addition to reducing complications such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Two surveys conducted in 2019 and 2020, including overall 24 fertility specialists from Europe, Asia and Latin America, confirmed that the majority of fertility practitioners routinely conduct hormone monitoring during MAR. However, blood tests may cause inconvenience to patients.

Introduction: Os acetabuli (OSA) is defined as a radiopaque structure located around the acetabular rim highly related to Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI). Its treatment depends on the perspective of post-surgical joint instability. Ossicle resection is recommended if the femoral head is covered enough by the labrum.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the breast (ACCB) is a rare triple negative tumor (TNT) with an excellent prognosis in most cases. Three different histologic types are recognized: classic ACCB, solid basaloid ACCB (SB-ACCB), and ACCB with high-grade transformation. A majority of these tumors show characteristic molecular and immunohistochemical (IHC) features, with fusion of MYB and NFIB genes and overexpression of MYB, respectively.

Articular hyaline cartilage injuries can occur as a result of either traumatic of progressive degeneration. When the articular cartilage in a joint is damaged, it can cause joint pain and dysfunction, predisposing patients for the development of early-onset osteoarthritis. There are many restoration procedures available to treat these injuries, such as bone marrow-stimulation techniques, osteoarticular auto/allograft transplants, and autologous chondrocyte implantation.

Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries are not as common as other knee ligament injuries, but may present a challenging scenario for even skilled knee surgeons. Complete PCL tears are typically encountered in the setting of multiligament knee injuries and require surgical treatment. Isolated complete PCL injuries are uncommon and the best treatment is debated, and likely depends on the degree of symptoms and objective instability.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Applications for Achilles Tendon Repair: A Bridge between Biology and Surgery.

Int J Mol Sci

January 2021

Eduardo Anitua Foundation for Biomedical Research, Jacinto Quincoces, 39, 01007 Vitoria, Spain.

Achilles tendon ruptures are very common tendon ruptures and their incidence is increasing in modern society, resulting in work incapacity and months off sport, which generate a need for accelerated and successful therapeutic repair strategy. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is emerging as adjuvant human blood-derived constructs to assist Achilles tendon rupture treatment. However, myriad PRP preparation methods in conjunction with poor standardization in the modalities of their applications impinge on the consistent effectiveness of clinical and structural outcomes regarding their therapeutic efficacy.

Osteochondral fractures of the knee represent a challenging entity to manage since there are many different surgical techniques for cartilage repair or other salvage procedures. In terms of cartilage repair, several hardware devices can be used, and many of them could imply a second-stage surgery for hardware removal. The purpose of this article is to describe in detail a one-stage osteochondral fracture repair technique with knotless anchors and interconnected crossing suture sliding loops for the knee.

Introduction: Several mechanisms play a role in the development of pneumonia after inhalation injury. Our aim was to analyze whether higher concentrations of inflammatory markers or of biomarkers of epithelial injury are associated with a higher incidence of pneumonia in patients with inhalation injury.

Material And Methods: Secondary analysis of a single-center prospective observational cohort pilot study, performed over a two-year period (2015-2017) at the Burns Unit of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital.

The use of epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EPCAM) immunohistochemistry (IHC) is not included in the colorectal cancer (CRC) screening algorithm to detect Lynch syndrome (LS) patients. The aim of the present study was to demonstrate that EPCAM IHC is a useful tool to guide the LS germ-line analysis when a loss of MSH2 expression was present. We retrospectively studied MSH2 and EPCAM IHC in a large series of 190 lesions composed of malignant neoplasms (102), precursor lesions of gastrointestinal (71) and extra-gastrointestinal origin (9), and benign neoplasms (8) from different organs of 71 patients suspicious of being LS due to alterations.
