October 1997

Department of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases in Children and Adolescents, University Hospital Purpan, Toulouse, France.

The skin prick test is the most widely used test for detecting IgE-mediated food hypersensitivity. Our study aimed to define firstly the correlations between results obtained with prick tests using commercial extracts and fresh foods, and secondly the correlations between these results and those obtained with labial and/or oral challenge. We compared the wheal diameters read at 15 min with commercial extracts and fresh foods, for four foods, in 430 children with suspected food allergy.

Purpose: We evaluated the results of microvascular penile revascularization in impotent men and carefully selected those whose vasculogenic impotence was defined as arteriogenic impotence, veno-cavernous leakage or mixed vasculogenic impotence.

Materials And Methods: Over a period of 11 y, 114 patients were treated for vasculogenic impotence with two surgical procedures: Michal II arterial bypass (44 patients) and modified Furlow-Fisher technique of deep dorsal vein arterialization (DDVA) (70 patients). Initial evaluation included history, physical and neurological examination, hormonal level determination, pharmacological erection test, Rigiscan, duplex ultrasonography, selective pudendal arteriograpy, dynamic cavernosometry and cavernosography.

Labial food challenge in children with food allergy.

Department of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases in Children and Adolescents, University Hospital Purpan, Toulouse, France.

The current increase in the prevalence of food allergies appears to have several causes including better screening, improved diagnosis and changes in both the techniques used by food manufacturers and eating habits. Labial food challenge (LFC)is simple, rapid to perform and is associated with only low risks of systemic reaction. It is thus an appealing alternative to the oral food challenge (OFC) for pediatric use.

Activations in the temporal lobes previously observed using positron emission tomography and auditory stimuli were partially reproduced with functional MRI and echo-planar imaging at 1.5 T in six volunteers performing tone and phoneme monitoring tasks. Verbal processing compared to a tone recognition task significantly activated a cortical area located in the left anterior temporal region (P < 0.

Photosensitive and phototriggered pityriasis rubra pilaris.

February 1994

Department of Dermatology, Hospital Purpan, Toulouse, France.

We report a 59-year-old man with photosensitive and photodistributed pityriasis rubra pilaris. The phototriggering of the lesions was obtained by the iterative polychromatic phototest (3 times the minimal erythema dose (MED) on 3 consecutive days) and was also observed on the supra MED sites, which began the 10th day and persisted several months. Our results are comparable to those already obtained in photosensitive psoriasis, which helped us to identify the clinical similarities of photosensitivity in these two instances of dermatosis.

Laboratoire d'Anatomie, Hospital Purpan, Toulouse, France.

According to an embryological basis, the Authors analyze the development of the vascular system and try to establish a differentiation between angiodysplasias and abnormalities. They define the characteristics of each group and make an attempt at classification. The major characteristics of differentiation are the evolutional aspects and the presence of arteriovenous fistulas.
