Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are prone to develop infections. Accordingly, 195 untreated early (e)RA patients and 398 healthy controls were selected from women in Tatarstan's cohort to study infectious history in the anamnesis (four criteria) and in the previous year (16 criteria). Information about annual infections was collected face-to-face from year to year by a qualified rheumatologist/general practitioner and included the active use of information from medical records.

Background: Large vessel occlusion (LVO) prediction scales are used to triage prehospital suspected stroke patients with a high probability of LVO stroke to endovascular therapy centers. The sensitivities of these scales in the 6-to-24-h time window are unknown. Higher scale score thresholds are typically less sensitive and more specific.

Recognition memory is the ability to recognize previously encountered objects. Even this relatively simple, yet extremely fast, ability requires the coordinated activity of large-scale brain networks. However, little is known about the sub-second dynamics of these networks.

Osteonecrosis (ON) is a known complication of acute leukemia (AL) management, affecting 1%-10% of young patients and resulting in long-term morbidity. Widespread access to MRI over the past decade has allowed earlier detection and more accurate assessment. This study investigated clinical and MRI features of the 129 (2.

Objective: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the most effective treatment for patients with severe major depressive disorder (MDD). Given the known sex differences in MDD, improved knowledge may provide more sex-specific recommendations in clinical guidelines and improve outcome. In the present study we examine sex differences in ECT outcome and its predictors.

Context: Ectopic acromegaly is a consequence of rare neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) that secrete GHRH. This abnormal GHRH secretion drives GH and IGF-1 excess, with a clinical presentation similar to classical pituitary acromegaly. Identifying the underlying cause for the GH hypersecretion in the setting of ectopic GHRH excess is, however, essential for proper management both of acromegaly and the NET.

Background: The objectives of this review were to: 1) describe reasons for lawsuits following primary hallux valgus surgery in France from 2000 to 2020; 2) to compare private and public practice.
Methods: Civil (private practice) and administrative (public practice) court decisions in France between 2000 and 2020 were collected using the two leading legal data sources (Legifrance, Doctrine).
Results: Seventy-two court decisions related to hallux valgus surgery were included.

Methods: We used two prospective cohorts of Child-Pugh A cirrhosis due to either alcohol or viral hepatitis.

Psychotic major depression (PMD) is hypothesized to be a distinct clinical entity from nonpsychotic major depression (NPMD). However, neurobiological evidence supporting this notion is scarce. The aim of this study is to identify gray matter volume (GMV) differences between PMD and NPMD and their longitudinal change following electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).

Background: The best recanalization strategy for mechanical thrombectomy (MT) remains unknown as no randomized controlled trial has simultaneously evaluated first-line stent retriever (SR) versus contact aspiration (CA) versus the combined approach (SR+CA).
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety profiles of SR, CA, and SR+CA in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treated by MT.
Methods: We analyzed data of the Endovascular Treatment in Ischemic Stroke (ETIS) Registry, a prospective, multicenter, observational study of patients with AIS treated by MT.

Summary Or Background Data: Numerous studies have focused on the efficacy, safety, and restoration of thoracic kyphosis in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis surgery using posteromedial translation method with sublaminar bands and hook claws at the top. The relevance of exchanging the penultimate anchor, that is, the pedicle hook with a pedicle screw in a hybrid construction has not yet been assessed.

Background: Pazopanib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor given at the approved dose of 800 mg orally once daily (OD), but often requiring individual dose adjustment due to toxicity. Limited data is available to guide prescription in older patients especially the unfit according to geriatric assessment.
Patients And Methods: VOTRAGE is a 3 + 3 dose-escalation, open-label phase I trial of continuous OD oral administration of pazopanib to evaluate safety, PK and PD data in unfit older patients with advanced solid tumors.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) are associated with systemic inflammatory or autoimmune diseases in 10-20 % of cases. Among them, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) has been reported but large studies assessing this association are missing. Whether such patients have a particular phenotype and require particular management is unclear.

We now report the analysis of blood γδ T cells from acutely HEV-infected individuals in the absence of immunosuppression. In these patients, non-Vδ2 (ND2) γδ T cells outnumbered otherwise predominant Vδ2 cells selectively in human CMV (HCMV)-seropositive patients and were higher than in HCMV controls, mimicking HCMV reactivation, whereas their serum was PCR-negative for HCMV.

Background: Diagnosis and treatment of colorectal peritoneal metastases at an early stage, before the onset of signs, could improve patient survival. We aimed to compare the survival benefit of systematic second-look surgery plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), with surveillance, in patients at high risk of developing colorectal peritoneal metastases.
Methods: We did an open-label, randomised, phase 3 study in 23 hospitals in France.

Objective: The best predictors of height gain due to surgical correction are the number of fused vertebrae and the degrees of the corrected Cobb angle. Existing studies of predictive models measured the radiographic spinal height and did not report the clinical height gain. The aims of this study were to determine the best predictive factors of clinical height gain before surgical correction, construct a predictive model using patient population data for machine learning, and test the performance of this model on a validation population.

Potential benefits of long-term strategies include sustained control of disease symptoms, as well as continued cytoreduction and clonal control, leading to unmeasurable residual disease and the possibility of transforming MM into a chronic or functionally curable condition. "Continuous therapy" commonly refers to administering a doublet or triplet regimen until disease progression, whereas maintenance approaches typically involve single-agent or doublet treatment following more intensive prior therapy with autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) or doublet, triplet, or even quadruplet induction therapy.

The hippocampus plays a key role in depressive disorder, and the amygdala is involved in depressive disorder through the key role that it plays in emotional regulation. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) may alter the microstructure of these two regions. Since mean diffusivity (MD), is known to be an indirect marker of microstructural integrity and can be derived from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) scans, we aim to test the hypothesis that treatment-resistant depression (TRD) patients undergoing bilateral (BL) ECT exhibit a decrease of MD in their hippocampus and amygdala.
