Background: Bronchiolitis is a seasonal viral infection of the respiratory tract that causes numerous childhood hospitalizations annually. Treatments vary based on severity, with mild cases requiring fluids and moderate to severe cases involving hospitalization with oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, and chest physiotherapy. Manual bronchial clearance techniques differ between Anglo-Saxon and European schools, and their effectiveness remains a subject of debate.

Learning Objective: After participating in this CME activity, the psychiatrist should be better able to:• Explain current understanding of the relationship between chronic benzodiazepine use and dementia.
Background: Chronic use of benzodiazepines (BZ) for managing conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, sleep disorders, and other chronic diseases is widespread; yet, there is considerable controversy regarding its potential links to dementia risk. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to clarify this relationship by synthesizing and analyzing the available evidence to provide a clearer understanding of whether prolonged BZ use contributes to developing dementia.

During pregnancy, significant physiological changes occur that result in cardiac remodeling and altered functional performance, though these are generally reversible postpartum. Pregnancy increases the cardiovascular system's demand, requiring substantial adaptations such as elevated cardiac output (CO), plasma volume, stroke volume (SV), and heart rate (HR), alongside a reduction in systemic vascular resistance (SVR) and mean arterial pressure. These adaptations, essential to meet the hemodynamic needs of both the mother and fetus, often differ from standard echocardiographic measurements used to evaluate cardiac function, making interpretation challenging.

Purpose: To describe a case of Wyburn-Mason syndrome in a young child with initially declined treatment leading to delayed intervention.
Methodology: Case report.
Results: We report a 6-year-old boy with mild periocular trauma following a fall, who was incidentally found to have a retinal arteriovenous malformation (AVM) associated with a brain AVM, indicative of Wyburn-Mason Syndrome.

Background: The Abdominal Compartment Society (WSACS) established consensus definitions and recommendations for the management of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) in 2006, and they were last updated in 2013. The WSACS conducted an international survey between 2022 and 2023 to seek the agreement of healthcare practitioners (HCPs) worldwide on current and new candidate statements that may be used for future guidelines.
Methods: A self-administered, online cross-sectional survey was conducted under the auspices of the WSACS to assess the level of agreement among HCPs over current and new candidate statements.

Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVA (MPS IVA), also known as Morquio A syndrome, is a rare lysosomal storage disease characterized by autosomal recessive inheritance of mutations in the N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase (GALNS) gene. This leads to a deficiency of the GALNS enzyme, causing the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans in tissues. Morquio A syndrome primarily affects the skeletal system and joints but can also impact various organs, resulting in symptoms such as hearing and vision loss, respiratory issues, spinal cord compression, heart diseases, and hepatomegaly.

Background And Objectives: Intracranial hypertension (IH) is associated with an unfavorable outcome in traumatic brain injury (TBI), and management strategies guided by intracranial pressure monitoring improve prognosis. Owing to the limitations of using invasive devices, measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) by ultrasonography is an alternative noninvasive method. However, its accuracy has not been validated in patients with TBI, so we aim to determine the diagnostic accuracy of measuring ONSD by ultrasonography in patients with TBI to estimate IH, compared with invasive monitoring.

Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on lung function parameters (MIP, MEP, FEV1, and FVC) between both elite and non-elite swimmers.
Methods: We searched for controlled clinical trials (CCT) and prospective longitudinal studies (PLS) in elite and non-elite swimmers following an inspiratory muscle training (IMT) protocol with a standardized device, published between 2012 and 2023. The databases used in the search were PubMed, Science Direct, Scopus, Springer, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Google Scholar.

Objective: To identify the effects of amygdala neuromodulation in the management disruptive behavior in patients, as well as changes in their quality of life and its relationship with epilepsy.
Methods: MEDLINE, OVID, WoS, Central Cochrane, and Scopus databases were systematically searched up to March 2023 for studies examining extremely aggressive patients who underwent ablative surgeries or deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the amygdala as the unique therapeutic target, with a six-month follow-up at least.
Results: The search yielded 1352 studies excluding duplicates, but only 11 case series, and 3 case reports met the inclusion criteria.

Purpose: Civilian penetrating brain injuries (PBI) caused by firearms are a medical emergency with high rates of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between trajectory vectors in CT brain angiography and clinical outcomes in patients with civilian gunshots.
Methods: This is a retrospective analytical cross-sectional study that includes patients over 15 years of age with PBI due to firearms, admitted from January 2019 to December 2021 at a University Hospital in Cali, Colombia.

Background: The Point-of-Care Diabetic Retinopathy Examination Program (POCDREP) was initiated in 2015 at the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC in response to low diabetic retinopathy (DR) examination rates, a condition affecting a quarter of people with diabetes mellitus (PwDM) and leading to blindness. Early detection and treatment are critical with DR prevalence projected to triple by 2050. Approximately, half of PwDM in the U.

Antipsychotic (AP) use has been associated to QT interval prolongation on the surface electrocardiogram (ECG). Our study aimed to determine the incidence of corrected QT (QTc) interval prolongation among patients admitted to a psychiatric hospitalization unit requiring AP treatment and to assess the relationship between administered dose and QTc interval changes. We enrolled 179 patients admitted to the Hospital Psiquiátrico Departamental Universitario del Valle in Cali, Colombia.

From 2001 to 2023, 17 (14%) of 120 neonates with confirmed herpes simplex virus infection tested positive for herpes simplex virus by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from only mucosal sites without a clinical mucosal lesion. Whether mucosal PCR positivity reflects early infection that may lead to recognizable disease, transient colonization, or a false-positive PCR result remains a clinical conundrum and warrants further study.

Introduction: Interstitial lung disease is a leading cause of mortality in patients with systemic sclerosis. Currently, there is a lack of consensus regarding screening, rescreening, diagnosis, and follow-up practices in interstitial lung disease associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc-ILD) in Colombia.
Methods: A structured survey focused on clinical practices in patients with SSc-ILD was conducted.

Introduction And Importance: In penetrating neck trauma, carotid artery penetrating trauma is considered one of the most complicated injuries to treat. Active bleeding, large hematomas, and rapid occlusion of the airways make the surgical approach to controlling bleeding and repairing the vessel much more complex, constituting an essential clinical challenge to every surgeon.
Case Presentation: We present 4 cases of patients with carotid artery penetrating trauma.
