Balloon sinuplasty, an initial assessment: 10 cases, results and follow-up.

Introduction And Aims: Balloon sinuplasty has been the object of recent discussions and papers. It is believed that the use of these tools can bring benefits, when compared with traditional endoscopic sinus surgery. Although there already are papers on the efficacy of this new instrument in the literature, there is no study in our country with a series of cases and follow-up of patients undergoing sinuplasty.

Object: The authors describe the utility of and outcomes after endoscopic transnasal craniotomy and skull reconstruction in the management of skull base pathologies.

Methods: The authors conducted a observational study of patients undergoing totally endoscopic, transnasal, transdural surgery. The patients included in the study underwent treatment over a 12-month period at 2 tertiary medical centers.

Epidemiological analysis of structural alterations of the nasal cavity associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA).

This paper is report of an experience, while graduation student during the Psychiatric Nursing Discipline, where I accompanied a patient carrier of Bipolar Disorder of fasting changing. The nurse-patient interaction is very important because it is through a good relationship that we a trust entail, capable to help the patient in the two different phases, with plans of individualized cares. I comment the depressives and maniacs behaviors of the patient in this study and the therapeutic techniques used in each phase.

[A macromolecule capable of modifying CK-MB results and of inducing false acute myocardial infarction diagnosis].

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic value of CK-MB in acute myocardial infarction, to differentiate the relation between creatine phosphokinase (CPK), CK-MB and macro CK-BB (a macromolecule formed by an atypic CK-BB linked to an immunoglobulin) and to investigate the association of macro-BB with cancer.

Methods: We studied 105 patients: 47 with various tumors; 8 with acute myocardial infarction and one control group with 50 persons without cardiac or oncologyc diseases. The CK-MB, CPK and macro CK-BB were measured in the serum of all patients and of the control group.
