Background: Patient's clinical characteristics, technical resources, center and operator volume, and operator experience and training are known variables impacting outcomes. Although international standards have been agreed to maximize the benefits of this therapy, regional and global differences still exist. Latin American information has not been updated in the last 10 years.

Article Synopsis
  • Endovascular treatment (EVT) is essential for strokes caused by large vessel occlusion, but a shortage of trained physicians and centers limits patient access to this crucial therapy, leading to delays in treatment.
  • The World Federation for Interventional Stroke Treatment (WIST) proposes competency-based training guidelines to ensure proper accreditation and certification of medical professionals and facilities involved in EVT.
  • WIST emphasizes a personalized training approach that incorporates innovative methods like high-fidelity simulations and human cadaveric models to improve the proficiency of interventionalists and enhance the quality of stroke care.

Introduction: Today, endovascular treatment (EVT) is the therapy of choice for strokes due to acute large vessel occlusion, irrespective of prior thrombolysis. This necessitates fast, coordinated multi-specialty collaboration. Currently, in most countries, the number of physicians and centres with expertise in EVT is limited.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) can still face life-threatening arrhythmic events (LTAEs) even when on β-blocker treatment, highlighting the need for careful management strategies.
  • The study investigated long-term outcomes of CPVT patients carrying RYR2 variants who were treated solely with β-blockers, focusing on the incidence of LTAEs and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
  • Out of 216 patients monitored for an average of 9.4 years, 13% experienced an LTAE, with certain risk factors identified, such as syncope and specific genetic variants, that increased the likelihood of these dangerous events

In COVID-19, pulmonary edema has been attributed to "cytokine storm". However, it is known that SARS-CoV2 promotes angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 deficit, increases angiotensin II, and this triggers volume overload. Our report is based on COVID-19 patients with tomographic evidence of pulmonary edema and volume overload to whom established a standard treatment with diuretic (furosemide) guided by objectives: Negative Fluid Balance (NEGBAL approach).

Although laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) placement appears as a safe and reproducible procedure, serious complications can occur. We present a patient with fever, dysphagia, epigastric pain, and port site inflammation. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and computed tomography (CT) scan diagnosed esophageal erosion of the gastric band.

Background/purpose: Andersen-Tawil syndrome type 1 is a rare autosomal dominant disease caused by a KCNJ2 gene mutation and clinically characterized by dysmorphic features, periodic muscular paralysis, and frequent ventricular arrhythmias (VAs). Although polymorphic and bidirectional ventricular tachycardias are prevalent, PVCs are the most frequent VAs. In addition, a "dominant" morphology with RBBB pattern associated with either superior or inferior axis is seen in most of the patients.

Provide recommendations to audiologists for the management of children with unilateral hearing loss (UHL) and for needed research that can lend further insight into important unanswered questions. An international panel of experts on children with UHL was convened following a day and a half of presentations on the same. The evidence reviewed for this parameter was gathered through web-based literature searches specifically designed for academic and health care resources, recent systematic reviews of literature, and new research presented at the conference that underwent peer review for publication by the time of this writing.
