Introduction: Maternal dietary consumption during pregnancy has been inconclusively associated with acute leukemia (AL) in infants, probably because epidemiological evidence has emerged mainly from the analysis of one-by-one nutrient, which is not a real-life scenario. Our objective was to evaluate the association between AL in Mexican children under 2 years of age and their mothers' nutrients concomitant intake during pregnancy, as well as to explore whether there are differences between girls and boys.

Background: This case report assesses the effectiveness of surgery plus pirfenidone (PFD) as a concomitant therapy in the management of facial trauma after severe dog bite.

Methods: A 16-month-old female patient who suffered a severe attack by a big-sized dog (Rottweiler) in the midface area was managed with surgery/PFD combination and followed up for 20 months to evaluate the efficacy to control, prevent, and improve injury sequels.

Results: Surgery/PFD combination offered a good complementary therapy downregulating inflammatory activity, improving blood supply, and activating cytokine modulation and collagen synthesis/biosynthesis (scar control).

Five children who suffered burns clinically regarded as full skin thickness loss were grafted with cultured allogeneic skin from newborn prepuce. The wounds had remained open and infected without healing for about 20 days before the patients were received in the burn unit. To avoid losing surviving deep epidermal cells the wounds were débrided but not deeply excised and, a few days before allografting, they were washed with isodine solution and sterile water, and treated with silvadene cream application.
