Objective: Analyze the notifications made by Primary Care (PC) professionals of Galicia, in the Notification and Learning system for Patient Safety (SiNASP), of the Ministry of Health of Spain, its variables and the factors that contribute to its appearance for thus characterize security incidents in this healthcare field.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study of notifications made in PC, between October 2010 and December 2019, in the SiNASP, in the Autonomous Community of Galicia. The data are presented using absolute and relative frequencies.

Background: The phase 2 ASUNCTIS study assessed the efficacy and safety of asunercept, a fully human CD95 (Fas) ligand-binding protein, in hospitalised patients with moderate-to-severe coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to assess the clinical benefit of CD95 ligand inhibition in this viral disease.

Methods: In this open-label, multicentre, randomised, controlled, phase 2 trial, patients with COVID-19-induced pneumonia and respiratory deterioration were randomly assigned (1:1:1:1) in 12 Russian and Spanish hospitals using an interactive web-response system to receive standard of care (SOC) or SOC plus weekly asunercept 25 mg, 100 mg, or 400 mg, administered intravenously for up to 4 weeks, or until hospital discharge or death. The randomisation was stratified according to the respiratory support methods at the time of enrolment, corresponding to categories 4-6 of a clinical severity assessment scale comprising 9 levels that was recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) at the time of the study.

The relation between use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and severity of COVID-19 has been the subject to debate since the outbreak of the pandemic. Despite speculations about the possible harmful or protective effects, the position currently most supported by the scientific community is that there is no association between use of NSAIDs and COVID-19 outcomes. With the aim of contributing to increase the body of evidence on this issue, we conducted a case-control study using real-world data to investigate the association between prior use of NSAIDs, by active ingredient and type (traditional NSAIDs and selective COX-2 inhibitors), and important COVID-19-related outcomes, including susceptibility, PCR + patient progression, and hospitalisation.

Background: North African human populations present a complex demographic scenario due to the presence of an autochthonous genetic component and population substructure, plus extensive gene flow from the Middle East, Europe, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Results: We conducted a comprehensive analysis of 364 genomes to construct detailed demographic models for the North African region, encompassing its two primary ethnic groups, the Arab and Amazigh populations. This was achieved through an Approximate Bayesian Computation with Deep Learning (ABC-DL) framework and a novel algorithm called Genetic Programming for Population Genetics (GP4PG).

Methods: Using head-to-head data from five cohorts with tau PET radiotracers designed to target tau deposition in AD, we tested a joint propagation model (JPM) to harmonize quantification (units termed "CenTauR" [CTR]). Plant viral nanoparticles (VNPs) are attractive to nanomedicine researchers because of their safety, ease of production, resistance, and straightforward functionalization. In this paper, we developed and successfully purified a VNP derived from turnip mosaic virus (TuMV), a well-known plant pathogen, that exhibits a high affinity for immunoglobulins G (IgG) thanks to its functionalization with the Z domain of staphylococcal Protein A via gene fusion. We selected cetuximab as a model IgG to demonstrate the versatility of this novel TuMV VNP by developing a fluorescent nanoplatform to mark tumoral cells from the Cal33 line of a tongue squamous cell carcinoma.

Recent Findings: HPV RNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the most accurate diagnostic test. The other assays (HPV DNA PCR, HPV DNA/RNA in-situ hybridization (ISH) and p16) applied to formalin fixed tumour tissue have varying but high sensitivities and specificities.

Classically associated with gap junction-mediated intercellular communication, connexin43 (Cx43) is increasingly recognized to possess non-canonical biological functions, including gene expression regulation. However, the mechanisms governing the localization and role played by Cx43 in the nucleus, namely in transcription modulation, remain unknown. Using comprehensive and complementary approaches encompassing biochemical assays, super-resolution and immunogold transmission electron microscopy, we demonstrate that Cx43 localizes to the nuclear envelope of different cell types and in cardiac tissue.

In spite of development of new lipid-lowering therapies which optimize low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) levels, recurrence of CVD events implies addressing factors related with residual cardiovascular (CV) risk.
