Objective: The radical change in the treatment of breast cancer has promoted the necessity for more comprehensive training of the professionals involved, ensuring the preservation of oncological safety while also allowing for cosmetic interventions to benefit breast cancer survivors. The aim of this study was to present the methods employed in the training of breast surgeons, highlighting the importance of oncoplasty and breast reconstruction.

Methods: A literature review was conducted in two databases, identifying articles related to medical education in the context of oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the rate of bacterial infections in COVID-19-hospitalized patients and to analyze the most prevalent germs, sources, risk factors, and its impact on in-hospital mortality.

Objective: To assess the outcome of extubation in COVID-19 patients and the use of noninvasive ventilation in the weaning process.

Methods: This retrospective, observational, single-center study was conducted in COVID-19 patients aged 18 years or older who were admitted to an intensive care unit between April 2020 and December 2021, placed under mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours and progressed to weaning. Early extubation was defined as extubation without a spontaneous breathing trial and immediate use of noninvasive ventilation after extubation.

Objective: To describe the performance of a pulmonologist-led lung cancer screening program using low dose CT (LDCT) in a cohort of outpatients with stable respiratory diseases in the Brazilian public health care system.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of the first two rounds of lung cancer screening of patients enrolled in the program. Inclusion criteria were being between 55 and 80 years of age, being a current or former smoker (smoking cessation ≤ 15 years), and having a smoking history ≥ 30 pack-years.

This study aimed to analyze clinicopathological characteristics and survival of patients with GIST in a reference institution for oncological diseases.

The Scientific Department of Neuroimmunology of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (DCNI/ABN) and Brazilian Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunological Diseases (BCTRIMS) provide recommendations in this document for vaccination of the population with demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) against infections in general and against the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID-19. We emphasize the seriousness of the current situation in view of the spread of COVID-19 in our country. Therefore, reference guides on vaccination for clinicians, patients, and public health authorities are particularly important to prevent some infectious diseases.

Objective: Evaluation of an alternative technique to perform transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), using abdominal ultrasound to guide portal puncture.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of TIPS performed from January 2014 to December 2018 in an interventional radiology service. TIPS were performed according to the classic technique, except at the moment of portal branch puncture, when abdominal ultrasound was used to guide it, visualized its path within the parenchyma in real-time.

Current treatment guidelines for patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) recommend multimodal treatment, including chemoradiation therapy (CRT) or surgery followed by radiation, with or without chemotherapy. The immune checkpoint inhibitor pembrolizumab has previously demonstrated antitumor activity in recurrent and/or metastatic HNSCC in large Phase III trials. For patients with locally advanced disease, Phase Ib data on the use of pembrolizumab in combination with chemoradiation have shown the approach to be safe and feasible.

This study assessed changes in the nutrition profile of public hospital workers over a period of three decades and the association between nutritional status and occupational factors. A retrospective cohort study was conducted with staff taken on in 1980, 1990, and 2000 still working in the hospital in 2013. The following data was obtained from staff records: sociodemographic characteristics; and body weight and height, recorded during pre-employment and periodic medical examinations.
