The corpus callosum can reveal a "butterfly" pattern on imaging in various conditions, including glioblastoma, primary central nervous system lymphoma, tumefactive multiple sclerosis, and toxoplasmosis. Early differentiation among these conditions is crucial to avoid aggressive treatments. In one case, a 70-year-old woman with a history of multiple sclerosis experienced a neurological decline.

We report the case of a 27-year-old woman with an ovarian tumour that arose during pregnancy. The patient did not have postpartum checkups and came to the clinic after eighteen months, presenting multiple lymphadenopathy predominantly in the cervical region, one of which was biopsied.

Ablepharon macrostomia syndrome is a rare congenital disorder caused by autosomal-dominant mutations. This condition is characterized by redundant skin, low-set ears, macrostomia, ambiguous genitalia, and underdevelopment of the both upper and lower eyelids. The shortening of the anterior lamella, septum and levator aponeurosis lead to a severe corneal exposure within the first hours of life.

Introduction: Endocrine paraneoplastic syndromes (ePNS) are caused by malignant cells that induce hormonal alterations unrelated to the tissue of origin of the neoplasm. The aim of this manuscript is to review the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of endocrine paraneoplastic syndromes (ePNS).
Areas Covered: We searched the PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Scielo databases, including 96 articles.

Background: A predictive scoring system used in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) known as Age, PaO/FiO, Plateau Pressure Score (APPS) has been externally validated to predict mortality in Asian and Caucasian populations. Its performance in Latin American and COVID-19 patients still needs to be done.
Objective: To assess the association between APPS and mortality, as well as APPS performance in predicting mortality within 28 days of intensive care unit (ICU) admission in patients with ARDS due to COVID-19.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare various aspects among coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients admitted to general wards versus intensive care units (ICUs) in Latin American (LATAM), including demographics, comorbidities, imaging and laboratory findings, complications, treatments, and predictors of mortality.
Materials And Methods: Data from the LATAM cardiopulmonary imaging registry of hospitalized COVID-19 patients (RIMAC) were analyzed. RIMAC is a prospective observational study conducted from March to December 2020 across 12 tertiary centers in nine LATAM countries.

Objective: To examine the predictors of the occurrence of severe thrombocytopenia and its impact on damage accrual and mortality in SLE patients.
Methods: Factors associated with time to severe thrombocytopenia (platelet count ≤20,000/mm) occurring from the onset of SLE symptoms were assessed by Cox proportional hazards regressions. The association of severe thrombocytopenia with mortality was evaluated by logistic regression analyses while its impact on damage was by negative binomial regression.

This study aims to systematically review case reports and case series in order to compare the postoperative course of conservative, endovascular and surgical treatments for traumatic dural arteriovenous fistulas predominantly supplied by the middle meningeal artery (MMAVFs), which usually occur following head trauma or iatrogenic causes. We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar until June 23rd, 2024. Three cohorts were defined based on the treatment modality employed.

Pre-existing (chronic) atrial fibrillation (AF) has been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular complications and mortality in patients with COVID-19; however, evidence in Latin America (LATAM) is scarce. This prospective and multicenter study from the CARDIO COVID 19-20 database includes hospitalized adults with COVID-19 from 14 countries in LATAM. A parsimonious logistic regression model was used to identify the main factors associated with mortality in a simulated case-control setting comparing patients with a history of AF to those without.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract whose etiology is unknown, which can transmurally affect any segment of the intestine and/or the perineal region. Worldwide, the incidence of inflammatory bowel disease has increased in recent decades, and the same upward trend can be seen in South America. At national level, there are no official data, however, the increase in the number of publications in the last 20 years confirms this upward trend.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic led to a global reduction in health care accessibility for both infected and noninfected patients, posing a particular burden on those with chronic conditions, including mental health issues. Peru experienced significant devastation from the pandemic, resulting in a collapsed health care system and leading to the world's highest per capita mortality rate as a result of COVID-19. Understanding the trends in health care utilization, particularly in mental health care, is crucial for informing pandemic response efforts and guiding future recovery strategies.
