Background: Biomedical technologies have the potential to be advantageous in remote communities. However, information about barriers faced by users of technology in general and in remote Indigenous communities is scarce. The purpose of this study was to characterize the leading challenges faced by researchers who have used biomedical technologies in the Peruvian Amazon.

Selected Domains within a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment in Older Patients with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma are Highly Associated with Frailty.

Background: The incidence of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) is increasing, particularly among older patients who tend to have worse outcomes and can be predisposed to increased toxicities and less treatment tolerance. Therefore, a thorough pre-treatment assessment is essential. A comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) can be used to evaluate the older patient considering chemotherapy and is the preferred evaluation tool.

Association between olfactory dysfunction and COVID-19 severity: A prospective study in a highly complex hospital in Peru.

Introduction: Olfactory dysfunction has been included among the early symptoms of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Evidence suggests that a relationship exists between the duration of olfaction disorders and the probability of developing severe COVID-19. Given the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study aimed to determine the frequency of smell alteration and its association with the severity of COVID-19 in a referral hospital in Peru, which is one of the most affected countries in the Latin American region.

Endovascular revascularization of chronic total arterial occlusion of the lower limb using the SAFARI technique.

The SAFARI technique or Subintimal Arterial Flossing with Antegrade-Retrograde Intervention is an endovascular procedure that allows recanalization of Chronic Total Occlusive (CTO) lesions when conventional subintimal angioplasty is unsuccessful. Retrograde access is usually obtained through the popliteal, anterior tibial, dorsalis pedis artery, or posterior tibial arteries and may potentially provide more options for endovascular interventions in limb salvage. The case of an 81-year-old man with a history of uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia is presented.

Coexistence of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma in a context of Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) represents 80-85% of thyroid cancer and its prevalence has been rising in the last decades. Primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) accounts for 3% of extranodal lymphomas and about 5% of thyroid malignancies, having a prevalence of one or two cases per million people. Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue lymphoma represents approximately 30% of PTL.

[Preclinical studies of cucurbita maxima (pumpkin seeds) a traditional intestinal antiparasitic in rural urban areas].

Experimental research was carried out at the Parasitology and Chemistry laboratories of the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University, in Tacna. The process involved two phases: (1) determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Cucurbita Maxima as an antiparasitic agent using canine tapeworms with an intestinal isolation of 5 to 6 hours, and (2) determination of the side-effects of Curbita Maxima on exposed albino rats. It was found that the MIC of 23 gr.

[Intestinal effects of Buerger's disease (thromboangiitis obliterans) case report].

A case of an adult patient with intra-abdominal mass syndrome and acute surgical abdomen due to chronic intestinal ischemia with localized perforation and ileal necrosis associated to hepatic granulomatosis and mesenteric adenitis produced by Buerger's disease (thromboangiitis obliterans) is presented herein. The clinical presentation, diagnosis, handling and prognosis of this rare entity were examined.
