Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a rare, life-threatening adverse reaction caused by certain medications. Clinical findings usually include rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, and eosinophilia, and in some cases, they may affect major organs. This reaction caused by antituberculosis (TB) medication poses a public health risk due to treatment discontinuation, adherence, or success in cure.

[Risk factors for advanced fibrosis in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2].

Objectives: To determine sociodemographic, anthropometric, biochemical-metabolic, clinical risk factors and comorbidities associated with advanced fibrosis due metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2.

Material And Methods: Case-control study. We reviewed 174 medical records of patients with metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus treated at the Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo from 2009 to 2018.

Cytokine hemoadsorption with CytoSorb® in patients with sepsis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: To analyze the effect of CytoSorb® on mortality, interleukin levels, vasopressor use and adverse events in patients with sepsis.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE®, Embase and the Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials and cohort studies that reported the use of CytoSorb® among septic patients. The primary outcome was mortality, and secondary outcomes included the use of vasopressors, levels of inflammatory markers, predicted versus observed mortality, length of stay in the intensive care unit, and adverse events.

Background: Uncertainty about risk of illness and the value of influenza vaccines negatively affects vaccine uptake among persons targeted for influenza vaccination.

Methods: During 2016-2019, we followed a cohort of healthcare personnel (HCP) targeted for free-of-charge influenza vaccination in five Lima hospitals to quantify risk of influenza, workplace presenteeism (coming to work despite illness), and absenteeism (taking time off from work because of illness). The HCP who developed acute respiratory illnesses (ARI) (≥1 of acute cough, runny nose, body aches, or feverishness) were tested for influenza using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR).

[Intra-gastric balloon associated with acute pancreatitis].

We present a clinical case of a young woman with the habit of sleeping in the prone position. She reports that after intragastric balloon placement, she begins with nocturnal episodes of epigastric abdominal pain. The most recent episode was characterized by sudden and intense abdominal pain, elevation of pancreatic enzymes, and imaging findings compatible with acute pancreatitis.

The existence of a cystic mass which walls originated from a metastatic gallbladder adenocarcinoma is infrequent. We present the case of 68-year-old male that present to the emergency department with abdominal distention, hyporexia and jaundice. Upon exploratory laparotomy, a duodeno-colonic cyst with walls formed by metastatic cells derived from a Gallbladder Adenocarcinoma.

[Association between the type of major duodenal papilla and difficult biliary cannulation in a private tertiary center].

Introduction: Difficult cannulation in cases of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) could be associated with several factors, including: type of major papilla, however, there are limited data regarding this possible association.

Objectives: To determine the association between the type of papilla and difficult biliary cannulation.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in patients over 18 years old who underwent ERCP on papilla naive, from July 2019 to April 2021, in a private institution.

Objective: Describe the clinical-surgical and sociodemographic characteristics of patients with esophageal atresia (EA) of the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño San Borja (INSN-SB) during 2015-2017.

Material And Methods: Descriptive observational study of cases with EA 2015-2017. The data was processed and analyzed in the SPSS v20 program, the absolute and relative frequency distributions were expressed in tables.

Cough dynamics in adults receiving tuberculosis treatment.

Cough is a characteristic symptom of tuberculosis, is the main cause of transmission, and is used to assess treatment response. We aimed to identify the best measure of cough severity and characterize changes during initial tuberculosis therapy. We conducted a prospective cohort of recently diagnosed ambulatory adult patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in two tertiary hospitals in Lima, Peru.

[Malaria in HIV-Infected patients: a series of cases in a peruvian hospital].

The clinical signs of malaria in HIV patients may vary depending on the immunological status of the patient. Nationally, evidence regarding co-infection is scarce. This research describes four cases from a hospital in Iquitos, Peru, of patients diagnosed with HIV infection and a positive blood test for malaria.

[Molecular identification of Aspergillus fumigatus isolated from patients with invasive aspergillosis].

The objective of the study was to identify molecularly-isolated strains of Aspergillus from patients with invasive aspergillosis (IA); these strains were primarily typed as Aspergillus fumigatus sensu lato by conventional phenotypic methods. [Colonic cancer with infiltration to the abdominal wall: a diagnostic challenge].

We present the case of a 53-year-old woman with a time of illness of 20 months, characterized by pain at the site of surgical intervention for opened cholecystectomy 3 years ago, associated with a presence of a mass in said area, with the following abscess formation and fistulization of food content. Imaging studies revealed a mass dependent of the transverse colon, in contact with stomach and abdominal wall and presenting fistulas to the skin. Said mass was extracted during surgery with anatomopathological result of mucinous colon adenocarcinoma.

[Pre-extensively drug-resistant congenital tuberculosis: case report].

Tuberculosis in infants is a clinical case difficult to diagnose by regular testing which often yield negative results; additionally, the source of transmission is difficult to identify. This work presents the case of a one-month old nursing boy presenting irritability, tachypnea, fever, poor gain weight from birth, and hepatomegaly. Additionally, he had the maternal history of pre-extensively drug- resistant tuberculosis and tuberculoid granulomatosis reaction with positive auramine tincture for acid-alcohol resistant bacilli at histopathology of the placenta.

[Vibrio cholerae NO-O1/NO-O139 bacteremia in a cirrhotic patient. First case report in Peru and literatura review].

Non-O1, non-O139 Vibrio cholerae (NOVC) strains are an uncommon cause of gastroenteritis. However, they have been recently associated with severe extraintestinal infections in immunocompromised hosts. Among them, bacteremia in cirrhotic patients is noteworthy.

[Iatrogenic lesions of the biliary tract].

[Infection by the Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex in patients with HIV/AIDS in a Peruvian hospital: A series of cases].

There is little information on the presence of the Mycobacterium avium-Intracellulare (MAC) complex in Peru. Five cases of MAC infection are described in patients with HIV/AIDS at the National Hospital Dos de Mayo, Lima - Peru. [Economic income in peruvian physicians according to the specialty: A cross-sectional analysis of the ENSUSALUD 2015].

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between having a medical specialty and the monthly income of Peruvian doctors, and to compare the economic incomes among areas with higher and lower density of medical doctors in Peru.

Materials And Methods: : We analyzed data of the National Satisfaction Survey of Health Users (in Spanish: ENSUSALUD) carried out in Peru in the year 2015. This survey, with a national level of inference, was performed on physicians working at health facilities in Peru.
