Objective: To analyze the effect of CytoSorb® on mortality, interleukin levels, vasopressor use and adverse events in patients with sepsis.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE®, Embase and the Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials and cohort studies that reported the use of CytoSorb® among septic patients. The primary outcome was mortality, and secondary outcomes included the use of vasopressors, levels of inflammatory markers, predicted versus observed mortality, length of stay in the intensive care unit, and adverse events.

Background: Uncertainty about risk of illness and the value of influenza vaccines negatively affects vaccine uptake among persons targeted for influenza vaccination.

Methods: During 2016-2019, we followed a cohort of healthcare personnel (HCP) targeted for free-of-charge influenza vaccination in five Lima hospitals to quantify risk of influenza, workplace presenteeism (coming to work despite illness), and absenteeism (taking time off from work because of illness). The HCP who developed acute respiratory illnesses (ARI) (≥1 of acute cough, runny nose, body aches, or feverishness) were tested for influenza using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR).

We present a clinical case of a young woman with the habit of sleeping in the prone position. She reports that after intragastric balloon placement, she begins with nocturnal episodes of epigastric abdominal pain. The most recent episode was characterized by sudden and intense abdominal pain, elevation of pancreatic enzymes, and imaging findings compatible with acute pancreatitis.

[Colonic cancer with infiltration to the abdominal wall: a diagnostic challenge].

We present the case of a 53-year-old woman with a time of illness of 20 months, characterized by pain at the site of surgical intervention for opened cholecystectomy 3 years ago, associated with a presence of a mass in said area, with the following abscess formation and fistulization of food content. Imaging studies revealed a mass dependent of the transverse colon, in contact with stomach and abdominal wall and presenting fistulas to the skin. Said mass was extracted during surgery with anatomopathological result of mucinous colon adenocarcinoma.

[Pre-extensively drug-resistant congenital tuberculosis: case report].

Tuberculosis in infants is a clinical case difficult to diagnose by regular testing which often yield negative results; additionally, the source of transmission is difficult to identify. This work presents the case of a one-month old nursing boy presenting irritability, tachypnea, fever, poor gain weight from birth, and hepatomegaly. Additionally, he had the maternal history of pre-extensively drug- resistant tuberculosis and tuberculoid granulomatosis reaction with positive auramine tincture for acid-alcohol resistant bacilli at histopathology of the placenta.
