Unlabelled: Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare disease characterized by the presence of two pathogenic variants in the LDLR, APOB, PCSK9 or LDLRAP1 genes, which cause very high levels of LDL cholesterol and premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).The objective of this study is to analyze the current situation regarding diagnosis, cardiovascular disease, lipid-lowering treatment and degree of control of lipids in patients with HoFH in the National Dyslipidemia Registry of the Spanish Atherosclerosis Society.
Methods: Subjects with HoFH, confirmed by the presence of two pathogenic variants in the genes mentioned above, included in the registry from 2013 to June 2023 with an updated review were analyzed.

Challenge In The Framework Of Predictive Preventive And Personalised Medicine: In recent years, we have been witnessing a change in the performance of hospital pharmacists, aimed at increasing their participation in the pharmacotherapeutic process of patients. The drug cycle, characterised as multidisciplinary, is very complex. It is essential for the multidisciplinary team to have a broad vision of the medication system in order to guarantee safety and quality.

Introduction: ferric carboxymaltose (CF) is an intravenous preparation that helps the rapid correction of anemia with a lower risk of adverse reactions. However, an association has been found between the administration of CF and the development of hypophosphatemia. Case report: we present the clinical case of a 57-year-old patient with a history of iron de-ficiency anemia who, after receiving treatment with CF (Ferinjet®) chronically, develops a clinical of severe muscle weakness.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of urea in patients with hyponatremia and heart failure (HF).
Methods And Results: This is a retrospective observational analytical study of patients with HF and hyponatremia (Na+ <135mmol/L). Forty-nine patients treated with urea and 47 patients who did not receive urea, all under standard treatment (according to usual clinical practice) for HF, were included and followed up at Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo (Spain) between January 2013 and May 2022.

: The COVID-19 pandemic made nurse-patient-family communication more difficult, reducing the understanding of the patient's wishes and current care history. COVID-19 challenged healthcare teams to develop strategies to address these changes and provide more integrated care using the technology at their disposal. So, this study aims to map the strategies used by nurses to maintain communication between the person hospitalized with COVID-19 and the family to understand which communication technologies were most used to maintain communication between the person and the family.

Introduction: patients undergoing major abdominal surgery, including colorectal surgery, particularly if they are oncological patients, are at risk of malnutrition with a worse postoperative evolution and an increase in complications. Objectives: to assess the prevalence of malnutrition in patients undergoing colon and rectal surgery in our hospital, and to identify the different risk factors for malnutrition. Methods: a retrospective cohort study including all patients operated on for colorectal cancer in our environment.

Little is known about the prediction of atrial fibrillation (AF) risk scores in patients with cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the predictive ability of the CHADS-VASc and HAS-BLED scores in patients with AF and cancer. Overall, 16,056 patients with AF diagnosed between 2014 and 2018 from a Spanish health area, including 1,137 patients with cancer, were observed during a median follow-up of 4.

Introduction And Objectives: A paradoxical protective effect of obesity has been previously reported in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study was to determine the impact of nutritional status and body mass index (BMI) on the prognosis of AF patients.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study of patients with AF from 2014 to 2017 from a single health area in Spain.

Inflammation is one of the mechanisms involved in heart failure (HF) pathophysiology. Thus, the acute phase reactant protein, orosomucoid, was associated with a worse post-discharge prognosis in acute HF (AHF). However, the presence of anti-inflammatory adipokine, omentin, might protect and reduce the severity of the disease.

Introduction And Objectives: Clinical decision-making on anticoagulation in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) requires clinicians to consider not only the incidence of embolic and bleeding events, but also the risk of death following these adverse events. We aimed to analyze the trade-off between embolic and bleeding events with respect to mortality in elderly patients with AF.
Methods: The study cohort comprised all patients aged ≥ 75 years from a Spanish health area diagnosed with AF between 2014 and 2017 (n=9365).
Background: Options to treat elderly patients (≥65 years old) newly diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) include intensive and attenuated chemotherapy, hypomethylating agents with or without venetoclax, and supportive care. This multicenter, randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial was designed to assess the efficacy and safety of a fludarabine, cytarabine, and filgrastim (FLUGA) regimen in comparison with azacitidine (AZA).
Methods: Patients (n = 283) were randomized 1:1 to FLUGA (n = 141) or AZA (n = 142).

Purpose: To compare surgery outcomes and safety of button bipolar enucleation of the prostate vs laparoscopic simple prostatectomy in patients with large prostates (> 80 g) in a two-center cohort study.
Methods: All patients with lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic enlargement (Prostate volume > 80 cc) undergoing button bipolar enucleation of the prostate (BTUEP) or laparoscopic simple prostatectomy (LSP) in two centers were enrolled. Data on clinical history, physical examination, urinary symptoms, uroflowmetry and prostate volume were collected at 0, 1, 3 6, 12, 24 and 36 months.

Background: There is limited evidence on the effectiveness of biological therapy in stricturing complications in patients with Crohn's disease.
Aim: The study aims to determine the effectiveness of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents in Crohn's disease complicated with symptomatic strictures.
Methods: In this multicentric and retrospective study, we included adult patients with symptomatic stricturing Crohn's disease receiving their first anti-TNF therapy, with no previous history of biological, endoscopic or surgical therapy.

The clinical diagnosis of von Willebrand disease (VWD), particularly type 1, can be complex because several genetic and environmental factors affect von Willebrand factor (VWF) plasma levels. An estimated 60% of the phenotypic variation is attributable to hereditary factors, with the ABO blood group locus being the most influential. However, recent studies provide strong evidence that nonsynonymous single nucleotide variants (SNVs) contribute to VWF and factor VIII phenotypic variability in healthy individuals.
