This review summarizes the impact of gender affirming hormone therapy used in the transgendered population and the classic and emerging risk factors on cardiovascular outcomes and surrogate markers of cardiovascular health. There is a growing body of evidence that people who are transgender and gender diverse are impacted by disparities across a variety of cardiovascular risk factors compared with their peers who are cisgender. Previously, disparities have been reported in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality across this group as a result of a higher prevalence of non-healthy life style.

Even though smoking has been scarcely studied in osteoarthritis (OA) etiology, it is considered a controversial risk factor for the disease. Exposure to tobacco smoke has been reported to promote oxidative stress (OS) as part of the damage mechanism. The aim of this study was to assess whether smoking increases cartilage damage through the generation of OS.

Background: Different prognostic scales exist in patients with brain metastasis, particularly in lung cancer. The Graded Prognostic Assessment for lung cancer using molecular markers (Lung-molGPA index) for brain metastases is a powerful prognostic tool that effectively identifies patients at different risks. However, these scales do not include perilesional edema diameter (PED) associated with brain metastasis.

The primary aim of the study is to determine the rate of traction-related complications in hip arthroscopy (HA) including perineal compression and distraction injuries, and the secondary objective is to report the incidence of complications in HA found on the studies selected by a systematic review. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were used for data extraction from the PubMed and Cochrane databases obtained in February 2022. Reviewers extracted the title, author, date of publication, number of hips treated and number of complications describing the affected area, nerve and soft tissue injury related to traction.

Introduction: VEIN STEP was conducted to collect international data on the management of chronic venous disease (CVD) and to assess the effectiveness of conservative treatments for the relief of CVD signs and symptoms.
Methods: This international, observational, prospective, longitudinal, cohort study recruited adult outpatients consulting for symptomatic CVD. The primary objective was the effectiveness of conservative treatments on symptoms, signs and quality of life in a real-life setting assessed using a range of patient-reported outcome measures: 10-cm Visual Analog and Patient Global Impression of Change scales for symptoms; Venous Clinical Severity Score for physician assessment of signs; and 14-item ChronIc Venous Insufficiency Questionnaire (CIVIQ-14) for quality of life.

Background: Quantitative (hyposmia and anosmia) and qualitative (phantosmia and parosmia) olfactory disorders are common consequences of COVID-19 infection found in more than 38% of patients even months after resolution of acute disease. SARS-CoV-2 has tropism for angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) in the respiratory system, suggesting that it is the mechanism of damage to the olfactory neuroepithelium and of involvement at the central nervous system. The olfactory bulb is the organ with the highest insulin uptake in the central nervous system.

Background: Concern about disease exacerbations and fear of reactions after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccinations are common in chronic urticaria (CU) patients and may lead to vaccine hesitancy.
Objective: We assessed the frequency and risk factors of CU exacerbation and adverse reactions in CU patients after COVID-19 vaccination.
Methods: COVAC-CU is an international multicenter study of Urticaria Centers of Reference and Excellence (UCAREs) that retrospectively evaluated the effects of COVID-19 vaccination in CU patients aged ≥18 years and vaccinated with ≥1 dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.

Lu-iPSMA is a novel radioligand developed at ININ-Mexico with a high affinity for the PSMA protein heavily expressed in cancer cells of approximately 95% of patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Lu-DOTATOC is a patent-free radioligand, molecularly recognized by somatostatin receptors (SSTR-2) overexpressed in cancer cells of about 80% of patients with metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NET). This translational research aimed to determine the efficacy and safety of Lu-iPSMA and Lu-DOTATOC developed as GMP pharmaceutical formulations for treating progressive and advanced mCRPC and NET.

Introduction: One of the major concerns with post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) is the development of pulmonary fibrosis, for which no approved pharmacological treatment exists. Therefore, the primary aim of this open-label study was to evaluate the safety and the potential clinical efficacy of a prolonged-release pirfenidone formulation (PR-PFD) in patients having PASC-pulmonary fibrosis.
Methods: Patients with PASC-pulmonary fibrosis received PR-PFD 1800 mg/day (1200 mg in the morning after breakfast and 600 mg in the evening after dinner) for three months.

Background: Studies have shown that more than 50% of the antibiotics used in hospitals are unnecessary or inappropriate and, that antimicrobial resistance may cost up to 20 billion USD in excess medical costs each year. On the other hand, Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (ASP) significantly reduce inappropriate antimicrobial use, emergence of antimicrobial resistance, healthcare associated infections, and costs in hospital settings.
Objective: To evaluate the development of ASP and antibiotic savings in 7 Latin American hospitals using standardized quantitative indicators in all the participating health care institutions.

We present the case of a 75-year-old man with a history of COVID-19 and splenic infarct treated with enoxaparin, who presented with intense abdominal pain and tomographic findings of free peri-splenic fluid and a hyperdense image in the spleen. An emergency laparotomy was performed, with findings of a splenic rupture at the vascular hilum. Spontaneous splenic rupture is a rare and fatal entity that should be suspected in a patient with history of COVID-19 who presents with acute abdominal pain after the administration of heparin.
