Background And Objective: The presence of microdeletions in the Y-chromosome azoospermia factor (AZF) region (YCMs) is considered the most frequent genetic cause of male infertility along with Klinefelter syndrome. The objective of this study was to investigate the frequencies and type of YCMs in infertile men in Aragon and to analyze the relationship between sex hormones, sperm count and microdeletions in them.
Patients And Methods: Retrospective descriptive study of 644 men who during 2006-2019 were screened for YCMs using YChromStrip (Operón, Spain) by PCR+reverse hybridization, spermiogram, karyotype and quantification of sex hormones.

Little is known about access of rare disease carriers to health care. To increase this knowledge, the Pan American Hereditary Ataxia Network (PAHAN) conducted an exploratory survey about care for hereditary ataxias in American continents and the Caribbean. A questionnaire was sent to health professionals about the hereditary ataxias identified; access to care; and local teaching and research.

Antibiotic misuse in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) can lead to increased antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic-triggered side effects, hospital costs, and mortality. We performed a multicenter, prospective study, analyzing critically ill pediatric patients (≥1 month to ≤18 years) admitted to 26 Spanish PICUs over a 3-month period each year (1 April−30 June) from 2014−2019. To make comparisons and evaluate the influence of AMS programs on antibiotic use in PICUs, the analysis was divided into two periods: 2014−2016 and 2017−2019 (once 84% of the units had incorporated an AMS program).

Background: Recent years have seen considerable changes in the prevention and treatment of acute ischaemic stroke in adult patients. However, the low incidence of paediatric stroke makes the development of specific guidelines more challenging. This study aims to clarify the situation of these children in our region in order to establish a regional protocol to improve the care provided to these patients.

Due to their suppressive capacity, the adoptive transfer of regulatory T cells (Treg) has acquired a growing interest in controlling exacerbated inflammatory responses. Limited Treg recovery and reduced quality remain the main obstacles in most current protocols where differentiated Treg are obtained from adult peripheral blood. An alternate Treg source is umbilical cord blood, a promising source of Treg cells due to the higher frequency of naïve Treg and lower frequency of memory T cells present in the fetus' blood.

Introduction: The efficacy and safety of the Rapid Intravenous Rehydration (RIR) guidelines in children affected by dehydration secondary to acute gastroenteritis is supported by current scientific evidence, but there is also great variability in its use in clinical practice.
Objective: To prepare a document with evidence-based recommendations about RIR in paediatric population.
Methods: The project was developed based on GRADE methodology, according to the following work schedule: Working Group training; creation of a catalogue of questions about research and definition of "relevant outcomes"; score and selection criteria for each item; bibliographic review; scientific evidence evaluation and synthesis (GRADE); review, discussion and creation of recommendations.

Introduction: Outcomes in patients diagnosed of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph-ALL) remains unfavourable compared to other subtypes of acute lymphoblastic leukemia despite improvements in drug treatments as well as advances in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
Patients And Methods: The role of allogeneic HSCT in Ph-ALL patients has been analysed through a multicentric study where data belonging to 70 patients diagnosed of this entity in different centers that received HSCT between years 1998 and 2014, were reported by the Grupo Español de Trasplante Hematopoyético (GETH).
Results: The performance of HSCT from year 2004, in first complete remission (CR) status with thymoglobulin (ATG) based conditioning had a favorable impact on overall survival (OS).

Lumboperitoneal shunting makes it possible to regulate the flow of cerebrospinal fluid by establishing a connection between the thecal sac and the peritoneal cavity. The main indication for lumboperitoneal shunting in children is idiopathic intracranial hypertension, but the technique is also useful in the treatment of postinfectious, posthemorrhagic, and normotensive hydrocephalus, as well as in the treatment of postsurgical pseudomeningocele or leakage of cerebrospinal fluid. This article reviews nine cases treated at our centre to show the normal imaging findings for lumboperitoneal shunts in children and to provide a succinct review of the possible neurological and abdominal complications associated with this treatment.
