Introduction: Outcomes in patients diagnosed of acute lymphoblastic leukemia with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph-ALL) remains unfavourable compared to other subtypes of acute lymphoblastic leukemia despite improvements in drug treatments as well as advances in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
Patients And Methods: The role of allogeneic HSCT in Ph-ALL patients has been analysed through a multicentric study where data belonging to 70 patients diagnosed of this entity in different centers that received HSCT between years 1998 and 2014, were reported by the Grupo Español de Trasplante Hematopoyético (GETH).
Results: The performance of HSCT from year 2004, in first complete remission (CR) status with thymoglobulin (ATG) based conditioning had a favorable impact on overall survival (OS).

Purpose: Linkage between clinical databases and population-based cancer registries may serve to evaluate European Reference Networks' (ERNs) activity, by monitoring the proportion of patients benefiting from these and their impact on survival at a population level. To test this, a study targeting neuroblastoma (Nb) was conducted in Spain by the European Joint Action on Rare Cancers.
Material And Methods: Subjects: Nb cases, incident 1999-2017, aged < 15 years.

Introduction: High-risk (HR) metastatic (stage IV) Wilms tumours (WTs) have a particular poor outcome.
Methods: Here, we report the results of HR (diffuse anaplastic [DA] or blastemal type [BT]) stage IV WT treated patients according to the HR arm in the SIOP2001 prospective study.
Results: From January 2002 to August 2014, 3559 patients with WT were included in the SIOP2001 trial.

Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) programmes make it possible to start or complete intravenous antimicrobial therapy for practically any type of infection at home, provided that patient selection is appropriate for the type of OPAT programme available. Although the clinical management of infections in the home setting is comparable in many respects to that offered in conventional hospitalization (selection of antibiotics, duration of treatment, etc.), there are many aspects that are specific to this care modality.

Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) initiated within 6 h from birth is the most effective therapeutic approach for moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). However, underlying mechanisms and effects on the human metabolism are not yet fully understood. This work aims at studying the evolution of several energy related key metabolites in newborns with HIE undergoing TH employing gas chromatography - mass spectrometry.

Introduction: The representation of Spain in European epidemiological studies on diabetes is limited, with only one centre in the Hvidoere study and another in the SWEET study. No Spanish studies have been published that combine epidemiological data and care resources. The aim of this study was to determine the epidemiological data, care resources, and use of new technologies in all Andalusian hospitals that care for children with Diabetes Mellitus type 1 (DM1) under 14 years.

The aim of the study was to assess perceived quality of life (QOL) of these children and their families as well as the problems they face in their daily life.We performed a multicentric cross-sectional study using a semi-structured interview about the impact of HMV on families and an evaluation questionnaire about perceived QOL by the patient and their families (pediatric quality of life questionnaire (PedsQL4.

Background: Before this study started, the standard postoperative chemotherapy regimen for stage II-III Wilms' tumour pretreated with chemotherapy was to include doxorubicin. However, avoidance of doxorubicin-related cardiotoxicity effects is important to improve long-term outcomes for childhood cancers that have excellent prognosis. We aimed to assess whether doxorubicin can be omitted safely from chemotherapy for stage II-III, histological intermediate-risk Wilms' tumour when a newly defined high-risk blastemal subtype was excluded from randomisation.

Blastemal-type Wilms tumour (BT-WT) has been identified as a high risk histological subgroup in WT assessed after pre-nephrectomy chemotherapy in trials of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) Renal Tumour Study Group. Therefore, in SIOPWT2001, post-operative chemotherapy for BT-WT was intensified aiming to improve survival. Survival analysis of all unilateral BT-WT patients (SIOPWT2001) (n=238), was compared with historical BT-WT controls (SIOP93-01) (n=113).

Congenital lobar emphysema used to be treated surgically. Congenital lobar hyperinflation is the currently recommended term, as it involves pathologically healthy lung tissue, which is why conservative management may be an option. Four cases of diagnosed congenital lobar hyperinflation are presented in which conservative treatment was chosen due to their clinical stability.

Introduction: Although one third of febrile seizures are complex, a consensus has still not been reached on how to manage them, as is the case with simple febrile seizures. The objective of this study is to estimate the usefulness of complementary examinations and the risk of associated serious intracranial pathology.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective review was conducted from 2003 until 2011 on patients from 6 months to 6 years presenting with a complex febrile seizure admitted to a tertiary care hospital, excluding the cases with previous neurological disease.

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have been increasingly isolated over the last 20 years in Spain. However, as NTM disease is not a notifiable condition, there is no national registry, thus the true prevalence and incidence of these infections in children are difficult to estimate. Cervical adenitis is the most common clinical manifestation of NTM infection in immunocompetent children.

Introduction: Serological markers are of great interest in coeliac disease (CD), although intestinal biopsy is still the gold standard for establishing the diagnosis. Tissue transglutaminase IgA antibodies (AATGt-IgA) and antiendomysial antibodies IgA (AAE-IgA) are closely correlated to intestinal damage observed in biopsies. Villous atrophy (Marsh 3) plays a major role in CD diagnosis.
