Preeti Urology and Kidney Hospital, 307, Remedy Hospital Lane, MIG1, KPHB Colony, Kukatpally, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500072, India.

Treatment of pediatric stone disease is a challenge, more so, in the case of infants. Infantile anuria due to calculus disease is rare, as pre-renal causes predominate. Retrograde intrarenal surgery is a less often sorted modality in infants, due to the lingering skepticism regarding handling pediatric ureters and urethra.

Determinants of breast cancer early detection for cues to expanded control and care: the lived experiences among women from Western Kenya.

BMC Womens Health

June 2018

School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (SPST), Health Science Platform, Tianjin University, 92 Weijin road, Nankai District, Tianjin, 300072, People's Republic of China.

Background: Estimately, 70-80% of cancer cases are diagnosed in late stages in Kenya with breast cancer being a common cause of mortality among women where late diagnosis is the major ubiquitous concern. Numerous studies have focused on epidemiological and health policy dynamics essentially underestimating the determining factors that shape people's choices and cues to health care service uptake. The study sought to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and health seeking behavior towards breast cancer and its screening in a quest to explain why women present for prognosis and treatment when symptomatic pointers are in advanced stages, impeding primary prevention strategies.

EZH2 promotes invasion and metastasis of laryngeal squamous cells carcinoma via epithelial-mesenchymal transition through H3K27me3.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

October 2016

Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Xi Wu Road #157, Xi'an 710004, Shan'xi Province, China. Electronic address:

Enhancer of Zeste Homolog 2(EZH2), which can change chromatin structure by tri-methylation of the 27th lysine of H3 in nucleosome histone (H3K27me3), is involved in different types of cancers. However, the role and mechanism underlying aberrant EZH2 expression in laryngeal squamous cells carcinoma (LSCC) remain unclear. In the present study, we found that down-regulation of EZH2 and H3K27me3 in LSCC cells (Hep-2 and SCC10A) resulted in an mesenchymal-epithelial transition(MET) like cell morphology and lower invasion in vitro, weakened tumor growth, intrahepatic and pulmonary metastasis in vivo.

Surveying young patients.

Emerg Med J

March 2010

Clinical Audit and Research Department, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Hospital Lane, Hellesdon, Norwich, UK.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (the Trust) was keen to engage young patients and to encourage them to give feedback about the service they had received. The standard Trust satisfaction survey was modified for use with young patients, and this had the effect of increasing the response rate from this patient group by 8%, and increasing the percentage of young patients aged 5-10 years completing the survey themselves by 29%. The vast majority of parents/guardians were happy for the Trust to survey their child, but the age of the child affected to whom they would like the survey sent.

Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide. The majority of cases are oestrogen receptor- or progesterone receptor-positive and, therefore, potentially sensitive to endocrine therapy. A significant risk of recurrence and death persists following initial diagnosis, with over one half of all recurrences and two thirds of breast cancer-related deaths reported to occur following completion of standard adjuvant tamoxifen therapy.

There is increasing evidence supporting the use of preoperative chemoradiotherapy in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer in an attempt to facilitate complete surgical resection with clear margins. We describe our experience of using a 5-day per week regime of preoperative capecitabine chemoradiotherapy. Between November 2004 and September 2006, 70 patients with MRI-defined locally advanced rectal cancer were selected for treatment.

There is clear evidence to support the use of pre-operative concurrent chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) in locally advanced rectal cancer. In the UK, most patients are selected for treatment if the resection margin is predicted to be involved. The selection criteria used includes primary tumours that threaten the resection margins on high-resolution pelvic MRI and low tumours requiring abdominoperineal excision.

Use of radiotherapy (RT) after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) varies according to country, precedent and prejudice. Results from a preliminary analysis of the data available within the UK Sloane Project can be appreciated in the context of the uncertainty concerning the selection of adjuvant RT following BCS for DCIS. There was a marked geographical variation in the use of RT within the United Kingdom.

Cookridge Hospital, Yorkshire Centre of Clinical Oncology, Hospital Lane, Leeds LS16 6QB, UK.

Aims: Recent evidence shows aromatase inhibitors (AIs) to be of benefit over tamoxifen in the adjuvant setting. It is also apparent that musculoskeletal symptoms associated with AIs may be a significant problem in the clinical setting. The aim of this article is to review the data on AIs with respect to musculoskeletal symptoms in the adjuvant setting.

Is there a role for radiotherapy in operable rectal cancer?

Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol)

November 2007

Leeds Cancer Centre, Cookridge Hospital Lane, Leeds, UK.

Most patients presenting with rectal cancer will have "operable" disease. The main aim in treating these patients is to achieve complete surgical resection while minimising the rate of local recurrence. The use of radiotherapy has been shown to decrease local recurrence rates and the evidence suggests that this should be used preoperatively.

UK Clinical Research Network Coordinating Centre, Arthington House, Hospital Lane, Leeds LS16 6QB, UK.

A diagnosis of gynaecological cancer and its treatment are usually associated with many physical and psychological changes, both as a result of the diagnosis itself and of the usual treatments of surgery, radiotherapy and/or several months of chemotherapy. Patients often experience symptoms such as fatigue, abdominal swelling and pain, and suffer from emotional distress and disturbances of their life style. Sexual functioning can also be affected.

Oxygen: kill or cure? Prehospital hyperoxia in the COPD patient.

Emerg Med J

February 2006

East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust, Hospital Lane, Hellesdon, Norwich NR6 5NA.

High concentration oxygen therapy has long been a mainstay of prehospital treatment. Guidelines for its administration have for many years also cautioned its use with patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Successive guidelines and prehospital textbooks have advocated the use of 28% oxygen masks and re-emphasised the importance of the dangers of hyperoxia, often drawing upon the classic theory of hypoxic drive.

Imaging for prostate cancer.

Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol)

October 2005

Cookridge Hospital, Leeds, Hospital Lane, Leeds, UK.

The increased incidence and awareness of prostate cancer, together with developments in treatment, has generated a significant need for appropriate imaging to detect and stage the tumour initially, guide radiotherapy delivery and monitor disease on follow-up. Transrectal ultrasound is usually the first imaging investigation, and its role is primarily to guide prostate needle biopsy. It also has an established role in imaging-guided treatments, such as brachytherapy.

June 2005

Department of Medical Physics, Cookridge Hospital, Hospital Lane, Leeds LS16 6QB, United Kingdom.

It is increasingly common for radiotherapy departments to encounter high density objects in patients being planned for radiotherapy. Many cases, such as artificial hip prostheses, are well documented. In our cancer center we have recently come across a new type of implant--a McGhan Style 133 Tissue Expander--implanted in patients who have undergone a mastectomy and will in future have breast reconstruction.
