Edoxaban is a once-daily oral inhibitor of factor Xa, currently indicated to reduce the risk of stroke or systemic embolism in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients and for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism (EMA, FDA and Japan). The ENGAGE AF-TIMI 48 and the Hokusai-VTE trials demonstrated that edoxaban was at least as effective as warfarin for the prevention of stroke or systemic embolism in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation patients, as well as for the prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism, but with a lesser risk of bleeding in both cases. In addition, it seems a cost-effective strategy for the management of this population.

Genetic biomarkers could be useful for orienting treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but none has been convincingly validated yet. Putative biomarkers include 14 single nucleotide polymorphisms that have shown association with response to TNF inhibitors (TNFi) in candidate gene studies and that we assayed here in 755 RA patients. Three of them, in the PTPRC, IL10 and CHUK genes, were significantly associated with response to TNFi.

Methodology: We compiled the data from the on-line registry introduced by reviewers of NADYA group responsible for monitoring of NPD introduced by since January 1, 2011 to december 31, 2012. Included fields were: age, sex, diagnosis and reason for HPN, access path, complications, beginning and end dates, complementary oral or enteral nutrition, activity level, autonomy degree, product and fungible material supply, withdrawal reason and intestinal transplant indication.
Objective: To describe the results of the home enteral nutrition (HEN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE group in 2011 and 2012.
Material And Methods: We retrieved the data of the patients recorded from January 1st 2011 to December 31st 2012.
Results: There were 3021 patients in the registry during the period from 29 hospitals, which gives 65.
Objectives: To analyse the presence of heightened sensory sensitivity in patients with anorexia nervosa, which seems similar but not identical to that described in patients with unexplained somatic symptoms or body dysmorphic disorder.
Methods: We developed a sensory sensitivity scale in eating disorders (SASTCA), which measures the intensity of the response to specific somatosensory stimuli. The scale was completed by 48 patients with anorexia and a control group of 31 participants matched in age, sex and social and educational level.
Deliveries with forceps or vacuum-extraction increase the incidence of perinatal craneoencephalic lesions, for which reason cesarean sections are performed more frequently. We report 3 cases of cranial lesions due to forceps deliveries, 2 with depressed skull fractures and 1 with a depressed fracture and an associated epidural hematoma. Diagnosis is made on clinical and radiological founds with CT scan or MRI.

The widespread use of peri-surgical chemoprophylaxis is decreasing the incidence of surgical site infection in Traumatology, which nevertheless remains as a problem amenable to further reduction. We have tried to identify modifiable determinants of the avoidable incidence of surgical site infection, and to estimate the potential benefit from implementing adequate measures targeting those determinants. In a firts sub-cohort of 5320 traumatologic patients with a post-surgical stay of more than 2 days, in Madrid's La Paz Hospital, between 1991 and 1996.

Early diagnosis of CTEPH is critical because thromboendarterectomy can improve survival, hemodimamics and functional capacity. Based on our experience we have performed a review of diagnostic techniques.

The problems most frequently associated with this ventilatory technique are the appearance of nasal and oropharyngeal dryness, pressure sores where the nasal mask touches the skin, ocular irritation due to air leakage and epistaxis. Aerophagia appears in up to half the patients with NIV and may lead to discontinuing treatment.

Most patients have a mutation in the TNFRSF6 gene, which encodes the Fas protein. Our aim was to identify mutations in this gene in two families with possible ALPS cases.

Patients And Method: Retrospective epidemiological study of a sample of 401 patients who began antiretroviral treatment between January 1997 and April 2000 at ten Spanish hospitals. The duration of each consecutive antiretroviral regimen was calculated and the reasons for modification and discontinuation were described.
BACKGROUND. Toxoplasmosis is an opportunistic infection reported in several groups of inmunosupressed patients. It is considered uncommon in patients with lymphoproliferative disorders and in bone marrow transplant recipiets (BMT).

Patients And Methods: From October 1999 to March 2000, 25 children underwent transcatheter closure of ASD at a mean +/- SD age of 8.
Stents have been previously used to resolve stenoses of branch pulmonary arteries in children. We report 3 patients, with mean age of 22.7 +/- 4.

We present the case of a 23 year old patient with Kawasaki syndrome which resolved without sequelae after salicylate treatment. An peculiar finding was that of typical symptoms and signs of bilateral sacroiliitis demonstrated by symmetrically increased articular uptake of technetium 99 diphosphonate. This sacroiliitis disappeared completely after resolution of the syndrome.
