Background: Prone positioning (PP) has demonstrated its potential for improving outcomes in patients with ARDS who require invasive mechanical ventilation. However, the ability of prolonged proning to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 specifically, sessions lasting > 24 h remains uncertain.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we examined 158 subjects with COVID-19 pneumonia who required mechanical ventilation due to moderate-to-severe ARDS.

The use of anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), such as lorlatinib, for the treatment of patients with ALK gene rearrangement (or ALK-positive) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been shown to improve the overall survival and quality of life of these patients. However, lorlatinib is not exempt from potential adverse events. Adequate monitoring and management of these adverse events are critical for increasing patient adherence to lorlatinib, thereby maximizing the benefits of treatment and minimizing the risks associated with treatment discontinuation.

Studies comparing different types of exercise-based interventions have not shown a consistent effect of training on long-term weight maintenance. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of exercise modalities combined with diet intervention on body composition immediately after intervention and at 3 years' follow-up in overweight and obese adults. Two-hundred thirty-nine people (107 men) participated in a 6-month diet and exercise-based intervention, split into four randomly assigned groups: strength group (S), endurance group (E), combined strength and endurance group (SE), and control group (C).

SERPING1 genotyping of subjects suspicious for hereditary angioedema due to C1-INH deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) is important for clinical practice as well as for research reasons. Conventional approaches towards the detection of C1-INH-HAE-associated SERPING1 variants are cumbersome and time-demanding with many pitfalls. To take advantage of the benefits of next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, we developed and validated a custom NGS platform that, by targeting the entire SERPING1 gene, facilitates genetic testing of C1-INH-HAE patients in clinical practice.

Background: Hereditary angioedema with C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE) impairs health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
Objective: The objective of this study was to assess HRQoL outcomes in patients self-administering subcutaneous C1-INH (C1-INH[SC]; HAEGARDA) for routine prevention of HAE attacks.
Methods: Post hoc analysis of data from the placebo-controlled, crossover phase III COMPACT study (Clinical Studies for Optimal Management of Preventing Angioedema with Low-Volume Subcutaneous C1-Inhibitor Replacement Therapy).
Several cases of patients with anaphylactic or systemic hypersensitivity reactions to polysulfone (PS) hemodialysis (HD) membranes and tolerance to cellulose triacetate (CTA) membranes have recently been reported. To investigate the mechanisms involved in PS hypersensitivity, basophil, T cell, and complement activation were analyzed in acute-phase samples from two patients with systemic reactions to PS-based membranes. Basophil and T cell activation, as well as higher serum tryptase levels were detected in acute-phase samples compared with basal levels.

Peritoneal membrane failure (PMF) and, ultimately, encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) are the most serious peritoneal dialysis (PD) complications. Combining clinical and peritoneal transport data with the measurement of molecular biomarkers, such as the chemokine CCL18, would improve the complex diagnosis and management of PMF. We measured CCL18 levels in 43 patients' effluent and serum at baseline and after 1, 2, and 3 years of PD treatment by retrospective longitudinal study, and evaluated their association with PMF/EPS development and peritoneal risk factors.

Early diagnosis and prognosis monitoring for Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) still remain a challenge. This study aims to explore any cytokine/chemokine with prognostic potential in Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN. Through screening a panel of 28 serological factors, IL-6, IL-8, IL-15, tumor necrosis factor-α, and granulysin were upregulated in patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN and selected for the further validation in total 155 patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome/TEN, including 77 from Taiwan and 78 from the Registry of Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions.

Methods: A prospective, placebo-controlled, randomised double-blind, parallel clinical trial lasting 24 weeks was carried out in 38 volunteers (29w, 9m) aged 30-55 years and BMI ≥27-<30 kg/m2 who consumed 200 ml/day of skimmed milk with 3g of CLAs or 3g olive oil (placebo).

High molecular weight (HMW) glycosaminoglycanes of the extracellular matrix have been implicated in tissue repair. The aim of this study was to evaluate if small synthetic hyaluronan disaccharides with different degrees of sulfation (methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-3-O-(β-d-glucopyranosyluronic acid)-O-sulfo-α-d-glucopyranoside, sodium salt (di0S), methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-3-O-(β-d-glucopyranosyluronic acid)-6-di-O-sulfo-α-d-glucopyranoside, disodium salt (di6S) and methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-3-O-(β-d-glucopyranosyluronic acid)-4,6-di-O-sulfo-α-d-glucopyranoside, trisodium salt (di4,6S)) could improve cell survival in in vitro and in vivo brain ischemia-related models. Background: Hereditary angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency (HAE-C1-INH) has considerable implications for dental health care providers, since dental procedures may trigger severe and even life-threatening episodes. The aim of the present study was to analyze the efficacy and safety of premedication with attenuated androgens (AAs), plasma-derived human C1 esterase inhibitor concentrate (pdhC1INH), or both to prevent the development of upper airway angioedema after dental-oral procedures in patients with HAE-C1-INH.
Material And Methods: All dental-oral procedures performed on patients with HAE-C1-INH who were followed up at La Paz University Hospital, Madrid, Spain were reviewed.
