Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease marked by systemic inflammation. While RA primarily affects the joints, its systemic effects may lead to an increased cerebro- and cardiovascular risk. Atherosclerosis of the carotid arteries is a significant risk factor for cerebrovascular events and serves as a surrogate marker for cardiovascular risk.

Colorectal neoplasia and diverticulosis are common findings on colonoscopies. While adenomas are precursors to colorectal cancer, diverticulosis is usually asymptomatic but can lead to diverticulitis. Despite their prevalence and coexistence, the relationship between these conditions remains unclear.

Background: Empagliflozin administered after acute myocardial infarction proofed to improve cardiometabolic parameters and biomarkers, but the impact on cardiac function is still largely unknown. The aim of this post-hoc echocardiographic sub-analysis of the EMMY trial was to provide in-depth echocardiographic analysis on the effects of empagliflozin versus placebo on standard and novel echocardiographic structural and functional parameters after acute myocardial infarction.
Methods: In this post-hoc analysis of the EMMY trial a subset of 313 patients (157 empagliflozin vs.

Purpose: We present results of a retrospective population-based investigation of patterns of care and outcome of glioblastoma patients in Austria.
Patients And Methods: In this nation-wide cooperative project, all Austrian glioblastoma patients newly diagnosed between 2014 and 2018 and registered in the ABTR-SANOnet database were included. Histological typing used criteria of the WHO classification of CNS tumors, 4th edition 2016.

Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is recognized as a chronic autoimmune disorder with systemic inflammation and joint damage. Its potential role as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is increasingly noted. This review delves into the causal relationship between RA and CVD, with Mendelian randomization (MR) offering a genetic perspective.

Rationale And Objectives: To assess image quality and radiation dose of ultra-high-pitch CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA) with free-breathing technique for diagnosis of pulmonary embolism using a photon-counting detector (PCD) CT compared to matched energy-integrating detector (EID)-based single-energy CTPA.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-one PCD-CTPAs were prospectively compared to 51 CTPAs on a third-generation dual-source EID-CT. CTPAs were acquired with an ultra-high-pitch protocol with free-breathing technique (40 mL contrast medium, pitch 3.

Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention is a well-established revascularization strategy for patients with coronary artery disease. Recent technical advances such as radial access, third generation drug-eluting stents and highly effective antiplatelet therapy have substantially improved the safety profile of coronary procedures. Despite several practice guidelines and a clear patient preference of early hospital discharge, the percentage of coronary procedures performed in an outpatient setting in Austria remains low, mostly due to safety concerns.

Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention is a well-established revascularization strategy for patients with coronary artery disease. The safety and feasibility of performing these procedures on a same-day discharge basis for selected patients has been studied in a large number of mostly nonrandomized trials. An up to date literature review should focus on trials with radial access, representing the current standard for coronary procedures in Austria and other European countries.

Purpose: To compare suprapubic access (SPA) and transurethral catheterization (TUC) in voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG).
Methods: Retrospective single-center evaluation of 311 VCUG performed in male patients under 12 years of age. Two study groups were built based on the bladder access method.

Little is known about IL-17 expression in psoriasis and the actual cellular source of IL-17 remains incompletely defined. We show that high numbers of IL-17 + mast cells persisted in resolved lesions after treatment (anti-IL-17A, anti-IL-23, UVB or topical dithranol) and correlated inversely with the time span in remission. IL-17 + mast cells were found in T cell-rich areas and often close to resident memory T cells (T) in active psoriasis and resolved lesional skin.

Background: The prognostic roles of clinical and laboratory markers have been exploited to model risk in patients with primary CNS lymphoma, but these approaches do not fully explain the observed variation in outcome. To date, neuroimaging or molecular information is not used. The aim of this study was to determine the utility of radiomic features to capture clinically relevant phenotypes, and to link those to molecular profiles for enhanced risk stratification.

Background And Objectives: This study analyzed the extent to which the recent introduction of more effective treatments has led to an improvement in real-world psoriasis patients.
Patients And Methods: Patient characteristics and the first-year treatment effectiveness in biologic-naive patients have been analyzed since 2004 until now, irrespective of treatment switches.
Results: Data from 2,729 patients were eligible for this analysis.

Introduction: Dermatoscopy is gaining appreciation in assisting the diagnosis of inflammatory dermatoses (inflammoscopy). Lichen planus (LP) is a common inflammatory skin disease with characteristic dermatoscopic features. Over the last few years, numerous articles were published on the dermatoscopy of LP and a high number of terms have been used to describe the dermatoscopic features of this disease.

Introduction: Congenital cystic lymphangiomas (CCL) or lymphatic malformations (LMs) are benign malformations due to a developmental disorder of lymphatic vessels. Besides surgical excision, sclerosant therapy of these lesions by intracavitary injection of OK-432 (Picibanil®), a lyophilized mixture of group A Streptococcus pyogenes, is a common therapeutical option.
Methods: In a single center retrospective study we analyzed 37 consecutive patients (30 children, 3 adolescents and 4 adults) who were diagnosed with lymphangioma and subsequently treated with OK-432 (Picibanil®) in a general hospital between October 2000 and November 2021.

With the introduction of the latest class of biologic drugs targeting interleukin (IL)-23p19, three new, highly effective drugs can be used for the treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis. However, poorer skin improvement as well as higher rates of serious adverse events have been reported for patients under real-world conditions (outside clinical trials). This accounts especially for patients who have already been treated with biologic drugs.

Aims: Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibition reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure and for death in patients with symptomatic heart failure. However, trials investigating the effects of this drug class in patients following acute myocardial infarction are lacking.
Methods And Results: In this academic, multicentre, double-blind trial, patients (n = 476) with acute myocardial infarction accompanied by a large creatine kinase elevation (>800 IU/L) were randomly assigned to empagliflozin 10 mg or matching placebo once daily within 72 h of percutaneous coronary intervention.

(1) Objective: To investigate changes in mortality rates and predictors of all-cause mortality as well as specific causes of death over time among HIV-positive individuals in the combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) era. (2) Methods: We analyzed all-cause as well as cause-specific mortality among the Austrian HIV Cohort Study between 1997 and 2014. Observation time was divided into five periods: Period 1: 1997-2000; period 2: 2001-2004; period 3: 2005-2008; period 4: 2009-2011; and period 5: 2012-2014.

Background: With the experience-based hypothesis of low donor site morbidity (DSM) for free flaps from the distal femur, this cohort study aimed to evaluate the DSM according to objective and reproducible criteria.
Methods: One hundred and fifty-six patients who had a flap harvest from either the medial or lateral femoral condyle region between 2005 and 2017 were included. A retrospective chart review was performed for all patients.
Tumor-infiltrating immune cells are relevant prognostic and immunotherapeutic targets in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Mast cells play a key role in allergic response but may also be involved in anticancer immunity. Digital morphometric analysis of patient tissue sections has become increasingly available for clinical routine and provides unbiased quantitative data.
