Superficial angiomyxoma is a benign neoplasm of mesenchymal origin that affects both sexes with a slight predilection for males. It can present in a solitary or multiple form, within the framework of the Carney complex, an autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by the triad: cutaneous and cardiac myxomas, skin pigmentation and endocrine overactivity. They occur more commonly in the head and neck, trunk and lower limbs; the location in the genital region and particularly in the scrotum is very unusual.

Objective: To explore the association of maternal characteristics, oxygenation, and mechanical ventilatory parameters with fetal and neonatal outcomes.
Methods: The present study was a multicenter, binational (Argentina/Colombia), prospective, cohort study, conducted in 21 intensive care units (ICUs) and including pregnant or postpartum patients with COVID-19 pneumonia requiring advanced respiratory support and their fetuses/neonates. Advanced respiratory support was defined as high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive ventilation (NIV) or invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV).

Background And Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in home parenteral nutrition (HPN) patients assisted by an interdisciplinary team during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina.
Methods: Longitudinal, retrospective and analytical study of patients on HPN for ≥90 days during 2020. Data collection included age (adults >18 years, pediatric ≤18 years), gender, diagnosis, type of catheter, number of lumens, venous access, days on HPN, infusion modality and number of CLABSI-associated events.

Background: Current evidence on obstetric patients requiring advanced ventilatory support and impact of delivery on ventilatory parameters is retrospective, scarce, and controversial.
Research Question: What are the ventilatory parameters for obstetric patients with COVID-19 and how does delivery impact them? What are the risk factors for invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) and for maternal, fetal, and neonatal mortality?
Study Design And Methods: Prospective, multicenter, cohort study including pregnant and postpartum patients with COVID-19 requiring advanced ventilatory support in the ICU.
Results: Ninety-one patients were admitted to 21 ICUs at 29.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm of mesenchymal origin with skeletal striated muscular differentiation. It is the most common sarcoma of childhood and has four subtypes: embryonal, alveolar, pleomorphic and spindle cell/sclerosing. Of all of them, the embryonal one is the most prevalent and presents a variant, botryoid, which usually involves hollow organs in the form of a multilobed polypoid mass.

Infant neurodevelopment is a complex process which may be affected by different events during pregnancy, such as hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). We conducted a prospective cohort study to compare the prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders in infants born to mothers with and without HDP at six months of age. Participants attended the Health Observatory of Instituto de Desarrollo e Investigaciones Pediátricas "Prof.

Background: Intensive care unit (ICU) outcome prediction models, such as Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE), were designed in general critical care populations and their use in obstetric populations is contentious. The aim of the CIPHER (Collaborative Integrated Pregnancy High-dependency Estimate of Risk) study was to develop and internally validate a multivariable prognostic model calibrated specifically for pregnant or recently delivered women admitted for critical care.
Methods: A retrospective observational cohort was created for this study from 13 tertiary facilities across five high-income and six low- or middle-income countries.

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) represent a heterogeneous group of hematologic disorders characterized by cytopenia(s) and predisposition to leukemic progression. An immune dysregulation and an aberrant bone marrow microenvironment seem to be key elements in the physiopathological process of MDS. In order to evaluate a possible association between susceptibility and clinic-pathologic features, we genotyped 153 MDS patients for functional cytokine polymorphisms: TNF (-308 G/A), IFNG (+874 A/T and +875 CAn), IL6 (-174 G/C), and TGFB1 (+869 C/T and +915 G/C).

Thrombocytopenic thrombotic purpura (TTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy associated with hematopoietic stem cells transplantation, pregnancy, puerperium, drugs, bloody diarrhea, a heterogeneous group of illnesses, such as malignant hypertension, autoimmune and neoplastic diseases, infections, and an idiopathic group that includes the pathologies that don't apply for the preceding clinical categories. Tuberculosis is an illness of intermediate incidence in Argentina, with increased frequency in high-risk groups. In this article, we present the case of a 60 years old male patient, with abdominal pain, cough and nocturnal sweating.

Prenatal lead exposure is a health hazard that may cause cognitive development impairments and other adverse effects in children. We conducted a cross sectional study analyzing cord blood lead levels (CBLL) of newborns and their relationship with maternal determinants of lead exposure. Mothers answered a questionnaire about socio-demographic, lifestyle habits and environmental characteristics.

Purpose: In Argentina, uninsured patients receive public health care, and the insured receive private health care. Our aim was to compare different outcomes between critically ill obstetric patients from both sectors.
Methods: This is a prospective cohort, including pregnant/postpartum patients requiring admission to 1 intensive care unit in the public sector (uninsured) and 1 in the private (insured) from January 1, 2008, to September 30, 2011.

Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease characterized by decreased exocrine gland secretions; patients may also present several hematological abnormalities, like lymphopenia. We describe the case of a 28 year old man who complained of headache a month of duration, with fever and vomiting in the last 48 hours. He also presented skin lesions on trunk and face, without neck stiffness.

The presence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in our hospital prompted us to apply an appropriate method for assessing its rectal carriage. A screening method with bile-esculin azide agar plus different concentrations of vancomycin was used. The antimicrobial susceptibility study of enterococci isolated from clinical samples was also emphasized.

The histogenesis of the gallbladder carcinoma is under controversy Some authors emphasize the polyp-cancer sequence, whereas others relate the adenocarcinoma with metaplastic and dysplastic changes. It is important to examine immediately the characteristics of the mucosa, in order for guidance to the surgeon at the operating room. With the purpose of correlating the macro-microscopic findings of gallbladder lesions, we studied 306 gallbladder specimens extended and fixed in formaline.
