Venous thromboembolism (VTE) after hospital discharge poses a serious health risk. Assessments of patient characteristics, prophylaxis, treatment, outcomes, and over time changes lack consistency. Data on 16,901 hospitalized patients in the Registro Informatizado Enfermedad TromboEmbolica registry (2003-2022) were analyzed to evaluate trends in baseline characteristics, prophylaxis, treatments, and 90-day outcomes among medical (6,218) and surgical (10,683) patient cohorts.

This prospective observational study aimed to evaluate the rate of change in forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1) and to explore the factors associated with changes in FEV1 in people with serious mental illness (SMI). Sixty subjects diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder who were smokers and without history of respiratory illness agreed to participate. The mean (range) follow-up period was 3.

Purpose: To assess the clinical performance of ProsTAV, a blood-based test based on telomere associate variables (TAV) measurement, to support biopsy decision-making when diagnosing suspicious prostate cancer (PCa).
Methods: Preliminary data of a prospective observational pragmatic study of patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels 3-10 ng/ml and suspicious PCa. Results were combined with other clinical data, and all patients underwent prostate biopsies according to each center's routine clinical practice, while magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before the prostate biopsy was optional.

Background: The demand for urgent psychiatric care is increasing, but in Spain there are no clear recommendations for emergency departments (ED) on how to optimize care for patients with psychiatric emergencies. We aimed to provide expert consensus recommendations on the requirements for general hospitals´ emergency departments to treat patients with urgent psychiatric symptoms.
Methods: We used a modified Delphi technique.

People with serious mental illness (SMI), such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, have a higher risk of premature morbidity and mortality. In the general population, impaired lung function is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. We compared lung function between people with and without serious mental illnesses using a cross-sectional study in 9 community mental health units.

Introduction: teleconsultation is a useful healthcare tool in the multidisciplinary management of patients with indications of home enteral nutrition (HEN). The use of different teleconsultation platforms, as it happens in the Andalusian Health System (SAS), results in heterogeneous referral processes between Primary Care and hospital services in the same region. Objectives: to establish a consensus on patient profiles and the minimum data set necessary to guarantee an adequate referral to NED teleconsultation regardless of the existing platform.

(1) Background: Hyperglycaemia that occurs during enteral nutrition (EN) should be prevented and treated appropriately since it can have important consequences for morbidity and mortality. However, there are few quality studies in the literature regarding the management of EN in this situation. The objective of this project was to attempt to respond, through a panel of experts, to those clinical problems regarding EN in patients with diabetes or stress hyperglycaemia (hereinafter referred to only as hyperglycaemia) for which we do not have conclusive scientific evidence; (2) Methods: The RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method, a modified Delphi panel method, was applied.

Background: The Clinical Trial of Sarilumab in Adults With COVID-19 (SARICOR) showed that patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia and increased levels of interleukin (IL)-6 might benefit from blockade of the IL-6 pathway. However, the benefit from this intervention might not be uniform. In this subanalysis, we sought to determine if other immunoactivation markers, besides IL-6, could identify which subgroup of patients benefit most from this intervention.

The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of early treatment with sarilumab, added to standard of care (SOC), in hospitalized adults with COVID-19. Methods included phase II, open-label, randomized, controlled clinical trial of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and interleukin (IL)-6 levels ≥ 40 pg/mL and/or d-dimer > 1,500 ng/mL. Participants were randomized (1:1:1) to receive SOC (control group), SOC plus a single subcutaneous dose of sarilumab 200 mg (sarilumab-200 group), or SOC plus a single subcutaneous dose of sarilumab 400 mg (sarilumab-400 group).

Objective To determinate the prognostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) changes during the first two days of admission to the ICU with sepsis and/or septic shock, and to compare it with changes in Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE-II) and Sepsis-related Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) prognostic scores. Methods A single-center prospective observational study was performed. Fifty consecutive patients admitted to the ICU, diagnosed of severe sepsis/septic shock were included.

Introduction: The latest cardiovascular risk guides, European and American, establish hard lipid control objectives, that suppose a therapeutic challenge for both, doctor and patient. The objective of this study is determine the degree of adequacy of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (LDLc) presented by patients with very high cardiovascular risk in our healthcare area, with respect to European and American cardiovascular risk guidelines.
Methods: This is an observational and retrospective study of 446 patients discharged between June 2017 and June 2018 with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome, ischemic stroke and peripheral arterial disease.

Background And Objective: Olfactory and taste dysfunction (OD, TD) have been considered symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, its presence in certain populations, especially those with mild clinical symptoms, has not been clarified. The objective was to estimate the frequency of OD and TD, and its predictive validity in patients detected in Primary Care.
