Association Between Diagnostic Delay and Economic and Clinical Burden in Axial Spondyloarthritis: A Multicentre Retrospective Observational Study.

Rheumatol Ther

January 2025

Rheumatology Department, Parc Taulí University Hospital. Institut d'Investigació i Innovació Parc Taulí (I3PT-CERCA), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Parc Taulí, 1, Sabadell, 08208, Barcelona, Spain.

Introduction: Axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with considerable pain and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for affected patients. Despite the documented increase in healthcare resource utilization (HRU) related to axSpA, few studies have explored the impact of diagnostic delays on these outcomes. This study sought to determine the association between diagnostic delay of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and costs in the 3 years after diagnosis.

Background And Purpose: The safety and effectiveness of endovascular techniques in elderly patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) remain controversial. We investigated the angiographic and clinical outcomes of nonagenarians treated with different endovascular techniques using a balloon guide catheter (BGC), distal aspiration catheter (DAC), and/or stent retriever (SR).

Methods: We analyzed the data from the Registry of Combined versus Single Thrombectomy Techniques (ROSSETTI) of consecutive nonagenarian patients with anterior circulation LVO and compared the outcomes of those treated with BGC+noDAC+SR (101-group), BGC+DAC+SR (111-group), and noBGC+DAC+SR (011-group).

January 2025

Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. Institut d'investigació Biomèdica Sant Pau (IIB SANT PAU) Department of Medicine, Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain.

Given the heterogeneity of acute myeloid leukemia patients, it is necessary to identify patients considered fit for intensive therapy but who will perform poorly, and in whom alternative approaches deserve investigation. We analyzed 1034 fit adults ≤70 years intensively treated between 2012 and 2022 in the CETLAM group. Young adults ( ≤ 60 years) presented higher remission rates and improved survival than older adults above that age (CR 79% vs.

Everolimus Through Plasmatic Concentrations in Cancer Patients: Prospective Longitudinal Observational Multicentric Study (DIANA-1 Project).

J Clin Med

December 2024

Pharmacy Department, Institut Català Oncologia (ICO), Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), L'Hospitalet Llobregat, 08908 Barcelona, Spain.

Everolimus, an oral inhibitor of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), is actually used to prevent organ transplant rejection and treat metastatic breast, renal, and neuroendocrine cancers. Despite significant pharmacokinetic variability among patients, routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is not commonly used in oncology. The aim of this multicenter, prospective observational cohort study is to assess the prevalence of everolimus minimum concentration at a steady state (Cminss) falling outside the therapeutic range (10-26.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer survivors experience unique challenges when making decisions about breastfeeding, with limited research on their experiences.
  • The study revealed that young women often prioritize other aspects of their cancer journey over breastfeeding, influenced by factors like the effects of treatment and support gaps from healthcare providers.
  • To improve care, it's crucial for healthcare professionals to address breastfeeding in oncological discussions, involve lactation consultants familiar with oncology, and create peer support programs that empower survivors.

Nowadays, synthetic cathinones (SCs) is the second more representative subclass of New Psychoactive Substances, accounting for 104 analogues in the illegal market. Since its first report in 2011, α-pyrrolidinovalerophenone (α-PVP) gained popularity among drug users, provoking an increased number of intoxications. Nonetheless, pharmacokinetics data is still limited in the literature.

Purpose: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma that develops sporadically or in Neurofibromatosis type 1 patients. Its development is marked by the inactivation of specific tumor suppressor genes (TSGs): NF1, CDKN2A and SUZ12EED (Polycomb Repressor Complex 2). Each TSG loss can be targeted by particular drug inhibitors and we aimed to systematically combine these inhibitors, guided by TSG inactivation status, to test their precision medicine potential for MPNSTs.

Introduction: In the OPTIMISMM trial, pomalidomide/bortezomib/dexamethasone (PVd) significantly prolonged median progression-free survival (PFS) versus bortezomib/dexamethasone (Vd) in lenalidomide-exposed relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). We report final overall survival (OS) and updated efficacy analyses.

Methods: Adults with RRMM who had 1-3 prior regimens, including lenalidomide (≥ 2 cycles), were assigned (1:1) to PVd or Vd.

Aims: Secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) and tricuspid regurgitation (TR) are the most common valvular heart diseases in patients with heart failure (HF). Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) devices designed for treating MR and TR have been successfully tested in randomized controlled trials, but methodological issues have often challenged their interpretation. This manuscript aimed to provide an overview of TEER registries on SMR and TR in HF, highlighting their key features, describing clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients receiving these devices, and exploring the available data limitations.

Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare type of B-cell lymphoma, which is considered incurable yet treatable. In recent years, the treatment options of mantle cell lymphoma have multiplied, and the focus of treatment is expected to shift from traditional chemoimmunotherapy toward precision medicine. However, this development is hindered by the high costs of targeted therapies.

Small fetuses, with estimated fetal weight (EFW) below the tenth percentile, are classified as fetal growth restriction (FGR) or small for gestational age (SGA) based on prenatal ultrasound. FGR fetuses have a greater risk of stillbirth and perinatal complications and may benefit from serial ultrasound scans to guide early delivery. Abnormal serum angiogenic factors, such as the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1):placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio, have shown potential to more accurately distinguish FGR from SGA, with fewer false positives.

Can ICD Electrograms Help Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation?: Results From the Multicenter Randomized AIDEG-VTA Trial.

J Am Coll Cardiol

November 2024

Electrophysiology Laboratory and Arrhythmia Unit, Centro Integral de Enfermedades Cardiovasculares, Hospital Monteprincipe, Grupo HM Hospitales, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Background: The results of ablation of sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (SMVT) are suboptimal. For many patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), ICD electrograms (ICD-EGs) provide the only available information on SMVT. ICD-EGs have the ability to distinguish morphologically distinct SMVT and can be used for pace mapping.
