Single-cell transcriptomic analysis of B cells reveals new insights into atypical memory B cells in COVID-19.

J Med Virol

August 2024

Laboratorio de Inmunología, Centro de Investigación en Alimentación y Desarrollo, A.C, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Here, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing of S1 and receptor binding domain protein-specific B cells from convalescent COVID-19 patients with different clinical manifestations. This study aimed to evaluate the role and developmental pathway of atypical memory B cells (MBCs) in response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The results revealed a proinflammatory signature across B cell subsets associated with disease severity, as evidenced by the upregulation of genes such as GADD45B, MAP3K8, and NFKBIA in critical and severe individuals.

This study reports the isolation and characterization of a human monoclonal antibody (mAb) called 19n01. This mAb was isolated by using single-cell RNAseq of B cells from donors infected with the ancestral strain. This mAb possesses a potent and broad capacity to bind and neutralize all previously circulating variants of concern (VOCs), including Omicron sublineages BA.

Unlabelled: Post-intubation tracheal stenosis is a condition that can occur as a consequence of tracheostomy or prolonged intubation. The development of two levels of airway narrowing is rare. We present the case of a 43-year-old male with a history of prolonged mechanical ventilation, who presented to our center with progressive respiratory impairment.

Massive hemoptysis is a rare life-threatening complication of pulmonary actinomycosis that should be treated promptly due to the risk of asphyxiation and hemodynamic instability. We present the case of a 57-year-old female who was presented to our center with massive hemoptysis. Thoracic computed tomography scan revealed a cavitated lesion with perilesional ground-glass opacity.

Dogs Detecting COVID-19 From Sweat and Saliva of Positive People: A Field Experience in Mexico.

Front Med (Lausanne)

April 2022

Laboratorio de Patología Acuática, Departamento de Recursos del Mar, Centro de Investigación y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional Unidad Mérida, Mérida, Mexico.

Context: Molecular tests are useful in detecting COVID-19, but they are expensive in developing countries. COVID-19-sniffing dogs are an alternative due to their reported sensitivity (>80%) and specificity (>90%). However, most of the published evidence is experimental, and there is a need to determine the performance of the dogs in field conditions.

Objective: The best way of preventing the dispersion of an infectious disease is decreasing the transmissibility of the pathogen. To achieve such a goal, it is important to have epidemiological surveillance to retrieve data about its routes of transmission and dispersion. This study investigated the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 detection using filtration through 0.
