Stroke represents one of the main causes of death and disability in the world; despite this, pharmacological therapies against stroke remain insufficient. Ischemic stroke is the leading etiology of stroke. Different molecular mechanisms, such as excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and inflammation, participate in cell death and tissue damage.

Factors Associated with Candidiasis in Pemphigus Vulgaris Patients: Results from a Retrospective Study in Two Second-Care Level Hospitals in Mexico.

Background: Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with pemphigus vulgaris (PV). One of the most common infections in these patients is candidiasis. This is probably due to the use of systemic immunosuppressants, including oral and intravenous corticosteroids, mainly in megadoses (pulse therapy), although it is unknown if there are other associated factors, in addition to immunosuppressive treatment.

Sinus histiocytosis or Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a rare disorder with severe lymphadenopathy and a limited clinical course, the aetiology of which is still controversial. The disease usually affects cervical nodes, with fever, polyclonal gammopathy, and leucocytosis with neutrophilia. Pure cutaneous involvement occurs as the only manifestation in only 3% of cases.

Effect of Antiviral Agents on Atherosclerosis in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C.

Background: Chronic hepatitis C is an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis and is associated with cardiovascular events. Mechanisms include inflammatory cytokines, endothelial dysfunction, and increased oxidative stress.

Aim Of The Study: The objective was to evaluate the response of carotid atherosclerosis to treatment with direct-antiviral agents.

Background: Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a rare disease in the adult, predominates in the pediatric age and is more common in men than in women. The sites of greater affection are the long bones, followed by the bones of the skull. Patients usually have symptoms related to the site of affection, usually polyostotic lesions, monostotic lesions occur less frequently.

[Latex sensitization and allergy in Hospital General de Mexico surgery residents].

Background: The prevalence of latex allergy ranges from 0.8 to 6.5% and is the second cause of perioperative anaphylaxis.

Differences in Body Composition in Patients with Obesity 1 Year After Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass: Successful Vs. Unsuccessful Weight Loss.

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the differences in body composition in patients with obesity with successful weight loss (SWL) and unsuccessful (USWL) 1 year after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB).

Methods: We included 36 women and 22 men. After stratifying patients according with SWL (defined as ≥ 50% of excess weight loss), fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) trajectories were analyzed in each group.

[Overlap syndrome. LEOPARD and neurofibromatosis. A case report].

We expose a clinical case of a 43-year-old patient who was attended at the Dermatology service in a general hospital of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, with a disseminated pattern of lentigines, psychomotor retardation and electrocardiographic abnormalities. Afterwards, we made an analysis of the literature.

[Abdominal actinomycosis: report of three cases].

We present three cases of abdominal actinomycosis in females, one presenting with an abdominal mass and the two others underwent emergency surgery because of acute abdomen with a diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis. The first patient (age 36 years) presented with an abdominal mass in the left lower quadrant arising from the colon as observed by abdominal computed tomography (CT). The patient was brought to the operating room and tumoral resection was done.

[Inhibitory effect of astemizol in skin tests with histamine].

Objective: To determine the effect of the astemizol to inhibit the cutaneous response to the histamine.

Material And Methods: We made a clinical assay in healthy adult subjects realising skin tests with histamine for prick (1 mg/ml) and intradermal (0.01 mg/ml) daily during the taking of astemizol 10 mg during 7 days and during 7 days after suspending it, as well as the day 14, 21 and 28.
