Are all ventilators for NIV performing the same? A bench analysis.

Global pandemic due to COVID-19 has increased the interest for ventilators´ use worldwide. New devices have been developed and older ones have undergone a renewed interest, but we lack robust evidence about performance of each ventilator to match appropriate device to a given patient and care environment. The aim of this bench study was to investigate the performance of six devices for noninvasive ventilation, and to compare them in terms of volume delivered, trigger response, pressurization capacity and synchronization in volume assisted controlled and pressure support ventilation.

Introduction: The impact of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has not been widely quantified, and the data in the literature remain controversial.

Materials And Methods: Candidates for LSG underwent barium swallow, esophageal manometry, ambulatory 24-h esophageal pH monitoring (APM), and gastric emptying scintigraphy before and after surgery (1 and 18 months). Symptoms were evaluated using a gastroesophageal reflux disease questionnaire (GERDq).

Introduction: The correct choice of surgical approaches in complex tibial plateau fractures is essential to achieve adequate reduction and fixation. Detailed fracture morphology and direction of columns displacement, that we have named the Main Deformity Direction (MDD), may aid in selecting the optimal surgical strategy. In this article we present a new algorithm based on MDD and column concepts.

Introduction: Hypofractionated radiation therapy for breast cancer requires highly precise delivery through the use of image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). Surface-guided radiation therapy (SGRT) is being increasingly used for patient positioning in breast radiotherapy. We aimed to assess the role of SGRT for verification of breast radiotherapy and the tumour bed.

Fluticasone in mild to moderate atopic dermatitis relapse: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: The long-term efficacy of corticosteroids to prevent atopic dermatitis (AD) relapses has partially been addressed in children. We describe a non-invasive method of assessing skin microcirculation in breast cancer patients treated with hypofractionated radiotherapy and correlate them with the CTCAE scale.

Introduction: Radiotherapy (RT) is an essential part of the patient's treatment diagnosed with cancer. Determination of the most common RT secondary effect, the cutaneous toxicity, is usually based on visual rating scales, like Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events with an inherent subjectivity. The aim of this work is to perform an objective method to evaluate the radiodermatitis using a non-invasive imaging technique based on laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF).

[Cervical and mediastinum haematoma secondary to spontaneous thyroid rupture].

We present a case of spontaneous haemorrhage of a thyroid nodule with diffusion of the haematoma to cervical spaces and mediastinum, which began as a progressive cervical mass affecting the airway and which required surgical treatment for control. The diagnosis was made using ultrasonography and cervicothoracic CT scan, giving high quality images to determine the site of bleeding as well as the extent of the process.
