Colonic Anastomoses Reinforced With Ethyl-2-Cyanoacrylate Compared With Polydioxanone Sutures Alone in Fecal Peritonitis: An Experimental Study in Wistar Rats.

Introduction: The use of tissue adhesives has been proposed as an anastomosis reinforcement; however, their efficacy has not been evaluated in a contaminated environment. The objective of this study was to determine if the use of sutures reinforced with ethyl-2-cyanoacrylate for colonic anastomoses in the presence of fecal peritonitis, in a murine animal model, decreases the frequency of dehiscence.

Methods: Wistar rats were used.

Omental torsion; an unusual case of acute abdomen. Case report.

Introduction And Importance: Omental torsion as a cause of acute abdominal pain is extremely rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively given the non-specific clinical picture.

Presentation Of Case: We report the case of an adult male who went to the emergency room due to abdominal pain, presented clinical symptoms and laboratory findings consistent with acute appendicitis but was diagnosed intraoperatively with omental torsion and associated necrosis, which was successfully treated by laparoscopic omentectomy.

Discussion: It is a rare entity with a low incidence.

Competence in metered-dose inhaler technique among healthcare workers of three general hospitals in Mexico: it is not good after all these years.

Introduction: Inhaled medication is the cornerstone of pharmacological treatment for chronic respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is important to use a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) correctly to get the appropriate dosage and benefit from the drug. Health-care workers (HCW) are responsible for teaching the correct MDI technique.

Analysis of loss to follow-up in 4099 multidrug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis patients.

Loss to follow-up (LFU) of ≥2 consecutive months contributes to the poor levels of treatment success in multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) reported by TB programmes. We explored the timing of when LFU occurs by month of MDR-TB treatment and identified patient-level risk factors associated with LFU.We analysed a dataset of individual MDR-TB patient data (4099 patients from 22 countries).

Malignant pleural mesothelioma in a 17-year old boy: A case report and literature review.

Background: Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a rare, invasive and often fatal neoplasm that develops in the thin layer of tissue surrounding the lungs known as the pleura. Although rare, mesotheliomas do occur in the young; their characteristics are distinct from those of older patients.

Case Presentation: This is a case report of a 17-year-old boy who had moderate dyspnea, cough, right-sided pleuritic chest pain, fever, headache and no weight loss.

[Amebic liver abscess. Three years experience].

Background: amebic liver abscess is frequently seen in endemic regions, and has a poor prognosis when diagnosis and treatment are inappropriate.

Aim: to evaluate and compare our own results; to propose a new classification and therapeutic algorithm.
