Gastroduodenal Obstruction Due to Bouveret's Syndrome: A Case Report.

Bouveret's syndrome is a rare disorder that causes upper gastrointestinal obstruction, typically in elderly patients with a history of chronic cholelithiasis. We present an unusual case of a 58-year-old woman with untreated vesicular lithiasis who developed Bouveret's syndrome. She presented with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension.

[Mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma: case report].

IntroducciÓn: Mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinoma is a rare tumor of the gastrointestinal tract with double differentiation into adenomatous and neuroendocrine carcinoma, each component with at least 30%.

Case Report: A 60-year-old female with acute abdominal pain. Surgical treatment was decided, finding a tumor at the level of the cecum and ascending colon, a right hemicolectomy and ileostomy were performed.

Economic burden of hypercholesterolemia in high risk of cardiovascular disease population in Mexico.

Objective: To estimate the direct and indirect economic burden of hypercholesterolemia in patients with high risk of a cardiovascular event, specifically there were defined 5 groups of patients: 1) familial hypercholesterolemia; 2, 3 and 4) patients with hypercholesterolemia and background of diabetes, myocardial infarction or stroke; 5) diabetes, myocardial infarction and hypercholesterolemia (very high-risk patients) from the Mexican public healthcare institutions.

Methods: For the estimation of the direct costs the items included correspond to: outpatient care, pharmacological treatment, inpatient hospital care, and surgical procedures. For indirect economic burden, death certificates, before the end of the productive age due to hypercholesterolemia were calculated (premature mortality).

Langer's arch in axillary dissections from patients with breast cancer: a retrospective study.

Purpose: The study aimed to assess the frequency of Langer's arch in patients undergoing axillary dissection for breast cancer.

Methods: From January-2015 to March-2020, in a general hospital in México City, female patients undergoing axillary dissection for breast cancer were studied. The analysis involved: demographic and anthropometric data, type of surgical treatment, histopathologic diagnosis, number of lymph nodes harvested, and frequency of Langer's arch finding.

[Guidelines on atopic dermatitis for Mexico (GUIDAMEX): using the ADAPTE methodology].

With the advancement of knowledge in relation to the physiopathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD), several new therapeutic forms have been developed. There are also new guidelines for self-care. On the other hand, there is still an underdiagnosis of AD in Mexico.

Changing characteristics of emergency surgery during COVID-19 pandemic: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: In other countries, researchers have noticed diverse variations in the features of patients undergoing emergency surgery during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Mexico, there is not information about this issue.

Methods: Workers of the Mexican Government, who required emergency surgeries were studied by the general surgery service of a General Hospital administered by the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE), through the periods from March-August 2019 (non-exposed) and March-August 2020 (exposed).

Seroprevalence of Trypanosoma cruzi in Eight Blood Banks in Mexico.

Background: The true prevalence of Chagas disease in Mexico is unknown. However, it has been estimated that 1.1-4 million people are infected with Trypanosoma cruzi, which represents a potential risk for transmission of the disease via contaminated blood.

Cervical Cancer Screening in Patients with Total Hysterectomy in a Diagnostic Center at Mexico City.

Background: The aim of this study was to outline the Pap smears rate done in women with total hysterectomy, sent to an urban diagnostic center that attends Mexican Government workers in the (ISSSTE: State´s Employees´ Social Security and Social Services Institute) at Mexico City.

Methods: It was a retrospective study on Pap smear reports taken in 2017. The reports came from users of four family medicine clinics and a general hospital´s gynecology service.

Osteoarthritis of the hip conservative treatment with type A botulinum toxin.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip is a low-grade inflammatory disease of multiple etiology that has a limited conservative management and insufficiently explored. The application of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) produces in the applied muscle a temporary, delimitable and reversible flaccid paralysis, which applied in a strategic way achieves to reduce mechanical stress and pain.

Objective: To evaluate the effect on pain perception, functionality and rigidity and changes in flexibility, internal and external rotation, before and 90 days after the application of BoNT-A.

Employment Condition Modifies the Using Patterns of Screening Mammography in Workers Insured by the Mexican Government: A Case-Control Study.

Background: Our main aim was to investigate whether the employment condition modifies the use patterns of the screening mammography in workers insured by the Mexican government (, ISSSTE; medical facilities of the Mexican government).

Methods: A case-control study age-matched was done in women insured by the Mexican government, aged 40-69 years, attending a general hospital (ISSSTE). All subjects were submitted to an interview and anthropometric data registry.

Impaired fasting glucose in breast cancer survivors of a general hospital at Mexico City: A case series study.

Background: According to an Anglo-Saxon study, in breast cancer survivors, there is a high prevalence of impaired fasting glucose. Our aim was to assess the impaired fasting glucose occurring in Mexican woman survivors of breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: At a general hospital in Mexico City, women with breast cancer with a surviving ≥2 years, without type 2 diabetes mellitus, were studied.

Esophageal Metallic-Stent Migration: a Rare Cause of Anal Pain in a Patient with Gastric Cancer.

Stents are a great development for esophageal fistula treatment; however, stent migration is a frequent complication. A stent migration that caused anal pain is presented. A 79-year-old man with poorly differentiated gastric carcinoma was submitted to a total gastrectomy with a Roux-en-Y esophagojejunostomy.

Fine-needle Aspiration Cytology to Identify a Rare Mimicker of Breast Cancer: Plasma Cell Mastitis.

There are rare benign diseases that can mimic malignant breast neoplasms in the clinical exam and in mammography. We evaluated the contribution of an accessible procedure to most clinicians, the fine-needle aspiration cytology, to identify a rare mimicker of malignant breast neoplasms. A type 2 diabetic 85-year-old female presented with a 6-month history of a left breast lump.

Occult cancer in patients with deep-vein thrombosis in a general hospital at Mexico City: A pilot study.

Background: We aimed to explore the frequency of occult cancer in patients with deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) at a general hospital in Mexico City.

Materials And Methods: From March 2012 to February 2015, all patients with primary DVT of lower extremities attended in the emergency department of our hospital were studied. Initially, all patients were evaluated with clinical history, physical examination, basic laboratories, abdominal ultrasound, chest X-ray, and duplex venous ultrasonography.

A rare cause of misdiagnosis in chest X-ray.

Chest X-ray is a usual tool for family physicians; however, unexpected findings in chest X-ray are a frequent challenge. We present a rare case of pulmonary hilar nodule misdiagnosis in a chest X-ray. An 84-year-old woman was sent with a diagnosis of a right pulmonary hilum nodule.

Modified metabolic syndrome and second cancers in women: A case control study.

Background: According to some studies, the metabolic syndrome causes diverse primary cancers; however, there is no evidence about metabolic syndrome impact on second cancers development in women.

Aim: To find out the implication of the modified metabolic syndrome in women with second cancers.

Materials And Methods: This was a case-control study, at a general hospital in Mexico City, in women with second cancers (cases) and age-matched women with only one neoplasm (controls).

[An exceptional mimicker of ovarian tumors: cancer in a pelvic horseshoe kidney].

Background: although the horseshoe kidney is a frequent congenital abnormality, the likelihood of it being the cause of a malignant tumor that looks like an ovarian neoplasm has not been reported.

Clinical Case: a 53-year-old female came to the hospital with a pelvic tumor. The patient had a history of a simple hysterectomy due to uterine myomatosis.

[Obesity, a main risk factor for endometrial cancer].

Background: obesity is a well-known risk factor for endometrial cancer, and both diseases are rising in Mexico. However, in our country some data indicates low influence of obesity on this neoplasm, and this is contradictory. Therefore, we explore the prevalence of obesity on women affected with this malignant tumor.

[Association between strenuous occupational activity and low back pain].

Unlabelled: The purpose of this study is to find the factors associated with the diagnosis of low back pain considering, for each patient, occupational activities, daily physical activities, age, weight, time course, number of visits to the doctor, and number of days of disability leave given due to that condition; all patients were seen at Tacuba General Hospital (TGH). In that hospital the diagnosis of low back pain is the 7th reason for seeking medical care and of disability leave. That is why it is necessary to apply prevention, education and timely care measures and detect the conditioning factors and the most frequent vulnerable groups, as well as the possible causes.
