Cases of pneumothorax/pneumomediastinum have been reported in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); however, the time to onset and hospital stay have rarely been studied. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with these complications are described to determine the time to onset, associated comorbidities, and location and duration of pneumothorax. A search in PubMed yielded simple frequencies and a bivariate analysis of deaths.

The purpose of this essay is to point out that the ethical principles in public health are based on the concepts of security and social solidarity of the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (Mexican Institute for Social Security), ideas that Mexico contributed to the world in 1943. It is emphasized that the principlism model generates confusion to solve the ethical dilemmas that occur in the face of COVID-19 pandemic, and the pertinence of security, solidarity, ontic responsibility, diachonic responsibility as ethical principles of public health with orientation towards vulnerability is outlined, clarifying their correspondence in ethical behavior in the face of COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Background: Pulmonary volumes and expiratory flows progressively decline during aging, and some studies suggest that such decline is steeper among diabetic people.
Objective: To evaluate if diabetes mellitus (DM) accelerates the decline of pulmonary function occurring with aging.
Methods: A spirometric study was carried out in type-2 DM outpatients attending the family physician office, as well as in a control group of nondiabetic subjects.
Background: Abnormal lung mechanics with diminution of pulmonary volumes and airflows is an adverse effect occurring during the immediate postoperative period of the upper-abdomen surgery.
Objective: To evaluate the influence of age on the lung function decline occurring during the immediate postoperative period of laparascopic cholecystectomy.
Methods: Patients planned to be submitted to elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were recruited from July to November 2000.

Objective: To develop and validate a diagnostic-therapeutic guideline (DTG) for the management of hospitalized diabetic patients, and apply it to a sample of medical files.
Material And Methods: The DTG was constructed and then validated by a consensus of internist physicians, afterwards it was applied to a sample of 97 randomly selected medical files of diabetic patients discharged from a internal medicine service. Hospitalization time, studies requested, average glycemia, glycemic prior to the discharge, time for to achieve glycemic control and mortality were compared at different percentages of the DTG's application.
