Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a multisystem disease considered a prototype of the main autoimmune disease and presents serious complications, such as lupus nephritis (LN), which generates a significant impact on morbidity and mortality. The gene encodes the osteopontin (OPN) protein, which plays a crucial role in the regulation of inflammation and immunity. The variants rs1126616 and rs9138 of this gene have been associated with the inflammatory response.

Tranexamic acid (TXA), a fibrinolytic agent, effectively inhibits plasminogen activation, thereby reducing fibrinolysis and hemorrhage. This study focused on its application in trauma patients undergoing emergency surgery, a critical area due to trauma's significant role in mortality. Our investigation involved a meticulous screening of randomized controlled trials from databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane.

Background: Central line (CL)-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) occurring in the intensive care unit (ICU) are common and associated with a high burden.
Methods: We implemented a multidimensional approach, incorporating an 11-element bundle, education, surveillance of CLABSI rates and clinical outcomes, monitoring compliance with bundle components, feedback of CLABSI rates and clinical outcomes, and performance feedback in 316 ICUs across 30 low- and middle-income countries. Our dependent variables were CLABSI per 1,000-CL-days and in-ICU all-cause mortality rates.

Background: Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) occurring in the intensive care unit (ICU) are common, costly, and potentially lethal.
Methods: We implemented a multidimensional approach and an 8-component bundle in 374 ICUs across 35 low and middle-income countries (LMICs) from Latin-America, Asia, Eastern-Europe, and the Middle-East, to reduce VAP rates in ICUs. The VAP rate per 1000 mechanical ventilator (MV)-days was measured at baseline and during intervention at the 2nd month, 3rd month, 4-15 month, 16-27 month, and 28-39 month periods.

Lipoblastoma (LB) is a rare benign mesenchymal soft tissue neoplasm that most frequently occurs in childhood. In this case, we describe a 33-year-old female with intermittent abdominal pain due to the presence of a slowly growing abdominal tumor. We will explain the ideal diagnostic protocol and compare it with the diagnostic approach performed at a second level of care with limited resources.

Introduction And Importance: The thoracic outlet syndrome is characterized by compression of the brachial plexus or subclavian vessels due to anatomical alterations of the thoracic cavity. Vascular presentation is rare and includes thromboembolism and edema in the upper limb, and the diagnosis is often elusive due to its rarity. In this case, we describe a vascular thoracic outlet syndrome presentation whose diagnosis through angiography was achieved after a mechanical thrombectomy.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims to explore the underlying mechanisms that lead to hypertension in glomerular diseases and the advancements in treatment strategies and to provide clinicians with valuable insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms and evidence-based therapeutic approaches for managing hypertension in patients with glomerular diseases.
Recent Findings: In recent years, there have been remarkable advancements in our understanding of the immune and non-immune mechanisms that are involved in the pathogenesis of hypertension in glomerular diseases. Furthermore, this review will encompass the latest data on management strategies, including RAAS inhibition, endothelin receptor blockers, SGLT2 inhibitors, and immune-based therapies.

Background: Coronavirus disease leads to silent hypoxia, ARDS, and organ failure. The saturation and fraction of inspired oxygen have been related to the degree of lung damage, can be considered as a monitoring tool for lung function during hospitalization and a predictor of mortality in patients with pneumonia by COVID-19.
Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of the oxygen saturation index and fraction of inspired oxygen as a predictor of mortality in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia.

Myxoid endometriosis, a rare entity, is part of the histological changes that can occur in endometriosis. Pathologists must know the histological guidelines for the morphological recognition of this entity, as well as the histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques that support diagnosis, and define the morphological characteristics of myxoid endometriosis. In the present work, we propose diagnostic guidelines and primary differential diagnoses using special histochemical techniques and immunohistochemical reactions to recognize this entity.

Purpose: Identify urinary catheter (UC)-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) incidence and risk factors (RF) in Latin American Countries.
Methods: From 01/01/2014 to 02/10/2022, we conducted a prospective cohort study in 145 ICUs of 67 hospitals in 35 cities in nine Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, and Peru. To estimate CAUTI incidence, we used the number of UC-days as the denominator, and the number of CAUTIs as numerator.

Introduction And Importance: Sternotomy is the main surgical procedure used to access the heart and great vessels. Among its most important complications is post-sternotomy dehiscence with an incidence of 10 %; the main risk factors for its occurrence are diabetes mellitus, obesity or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Case Presentation: We present a clinical case of a 74-year-old male patient with sternal dehiscence secondary to sternotomy for myocardial revascularisation.

Introduction: Maternal dietary consumption during pregnancy has been inconclusively associated with acute leukemia (AL) in infants, probably because epidemiological evidence has emerged mainly from the analysis of one-by-one nutrient, which is not a real-life scenario. Our objective was to evaluate the association between AL in Mexican children under 2 years of age and their mothers' nutrients concomitant intake during pregnancy, as well as to explore whether there are differences between girls and boys.
Methods: We conducted a study of 110 cases of AL and 252 hospital-based controls in the Mexico City Metropolitan area from 2010 to 2019.
