Currently there is still little information about multilevel vertebral fractures (MVF), in addition to the fact that there are no classifications that help us group them in a simpler way, and guide us on their prognosis. The objective of this work is to propose a new classification of continuous type MVF, based on the number of end plates injured of the vertebral bodies and their severity, where we form four groups. A review of continuous MVF cases that we found in our hospital over a 6-year period was carried out, managing to designate 100% of the fractures, by their characteristics, to the corresponding group.

Introduction: in general, spine surgeons seek to minimize soft tissue damage by using less invasive approaches, which causes them to use intraoperative images much more frequently than other surgical specialties; therefore, they are at increased risk of radiation exposure.

Objective: the aim of this work was to analyse the amount of radiation to which the spine surgeon is exposed in different scenarios.

Material And Methods: a prospective study with a descriptive, longitudinal non-randomized data source.

BACKGROUND Giant cell tumors of the bone (GCTB) are rare, locally aggressive benign neoplasms that primarily occur in the metaphyses of long bones. In less than 2% of cases, GCTBs arise in the spine, predominantly below the sacrum. We report the clinical manifestations, diagnostic approach, and successful surgical treatment of a patient with a GCTB of the thoracic spine.

Traumatic spondyloptosis is a serious injury usually caused by high-energy trauma; It consists of the anterior or posterior dislocation of 100% or more of the underlying vertebral body, which can become a total injury of the spinal cord, producing a neurological deficit; this type of injury represents stage 4 and 5 of Allen-Ferguson. A 50-year-old man who suffers a car accident, he receive frontal impact when he was a driver, colliding with the retaining wall, referred from another hospital to emergency room, managed with C7 hemicorpectomy, c7-t1 discectomy, spondylodesis with anterior plate (C6-T1), and posterior approach + Fascetectomies of C7-T1, facet joint screws C6 and transpedicular fixation of T1. Subaxial cervical spondyloptosis is relatively rare clinical entity, a complete clinical examination is important in diagnosis, taking in considerations the injury mechanism.

Introduction: The HAISS (Herramienta de Aprendizaje ISS) program was created to enhance the feasibility and learning of trauma severity scores AIS (Abbreviated Injury Score) and ISS (Injury Severity Score).

Objective: Get a computer tool that promotes learning and facilitate proper use of AIS and ISS.

Material And Methods: A sample of 40 orthopedic residents from 1st to 4th grade from 4 hospitals of the Ministry of Health was taken.

Background: Knowledge of the morphometric anatomy of cervical pedicles is essential for the safe and accurate placement of pedicle screws during instrumentation of the cervical spine. Screw placement in the lumbar and thoracic vertebrae is considered as a safe practice, unlike the cervical vertebrae due to the risks involved. There are few reports on this technique.

In 1913 Lambotte began treating distal radius fractures surgically using percutaneous fixation with a Kirschner wire; in 1984 Clancey modified the percutaneous technique by using crossed wires with good results; however, various therapeutic approaches are needed to treat the fractures in elderly or osteopenic patients. The purpose of this study is to present the results of the treatment of distal metaphyseal radius fractures types 3, 4 and 5 according to Fernandez in 21 patients who underwent closed reduction and percutaneous fixation with the Clancey technique, with a forearm-palmar cast, from June to September, 2009. Good clinical and radiologic results were reported in 95.

Background: Fracture dislocations of the thoracolumbar spine are, to a great extent, associated with neurologic deficit and instability, so a large percentage of them require surgical treatment. Being pregnant does not rule out the possibility of having this type of lesions. There are only a few bibliographic references concerning these cases and medical and treatment ignorance about them is frequent.

Objective: To determine changes in neurological status in patients with traumatic cord lesions before and after surgical treatment.

Material And Methods: We conducted a descriptive cohort study, and measured 61 points of neurologic evaluation (sensory, motor, reflexes) of the Sequential Clinical History.

Results: We studied 28 patients with complete cord lesion (ASIA A) and 16 with incomplete cord lesions (9 ASIA B, 4 ASIA C, and 3 ASIA D).

We present 45 years-old male patient with bilateral luxation of all costochondral joints due to a compression mechanism while he was working beneath a car and the support was lost. He presented with floating sternum and ventilatory compromise among other injuries. Initially he was intubated and the costochondral joints were temporary fixated with dexon suture while making counter balance with 2 kg.

[Comprehensive treatment in Achilles tendon rupture].

Acta Ortop Mex

February 2008

Hospital General La Villa, SSDF, Hospital Angeles Metropolitano, Delegación Cuauhtémoc, México.

Due to incapacity caused by calcaneal tendon injuries for the reintegration of patients back to their daily activities and/or sparts it is necessary to decrease the time of reinstatement of patients. At present these times have improved by a good surgical technique and an early rehabilitation, and the patient is returned quickly as he sees less disability. It is proposed in this paper a type of surgical treatment and an early rehabilitation program, which have shortened the time of disability and incorporation to their daily activities and sports to eight weeks in 10 patients with Achilles tendon plasty.
