Several reconstructive methods have been reported to restore the continuity of the aerodigestive tract following resection of pharyngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers. However, high complication rates have been reported after voice prosthesis insertion. In this setting, the ileocolon free flap (ICFF) offers a tubularized flap for reconstruction of the hypopharynx while providing a natural phonation tube.

[Current status of antimicrobial resistance in pediatric population in a Mexican hospital].

Background: Today bacterial resistance is a global problem, it is estimated that in 2050 it could reach 10 million deaths per year. Bacterial resistance can be caused by different mechanisms, in the case of beta-lactams they include the production of flow pumps, the modification or reduction of porin production, alteration of penicillin-binding proteins and production of an enzyme capable of inactivating the antibiotic.

Objective: To describe the main bacterial agents reported in the Hospital para el Niño de Toluca and their sensitivity pattern.

He presented with multiple cerebral abscesses, and his microbiological diagnosis approach resulted in the isolation of a species rarely reported in America.

Depression, anxiety, and academic performance in COVID-19: a cross-sectional study.

Depression and anxiety are common after months of social isolation, and they can have a negative impact on anyone's quality of life if they are not treated promptly and appropriately. The aim of this study was to determine if the change to online modality courses and the presence of depression or anxiety symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with a difference in the college student's academic achievement. This study was a cross-sectional survey in which we used the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the General Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7).

Unexpected Presence of Blastocystis Subtype 1-3 DNA in Human Vaginal and Sperm Samples Coinfected with Trichomonas vaginalis.

There have been few reports on extra-enteric infections by Blastocystis STs and none have been molecularly identified in samples from human reproductive organs. We report for the first time the identification of 3 different subtypes of Blastocystis (ST1-3) in vaginal and sperm samples, from patients infected with Trichomonas vaginalis. Blastocystis STs were identified by PCR-sequencing and by phylogenetic inferences using 28 vaginal swab samples and 7 sperm samples from patients trichomoniasis.

A New Record of the Introduced Species Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) in Mexico.

Here, we report a new record of Triatoma infestans (Klug) in Mexico after 50 years and provide a brief description of the discovery area. Fifty-nine specimens (71.2% adults) of the introduced species were collected from the peridomestic areas of a single house in the port of Manzanillo in the state of Colima, Mexico.

Entheseal Involvement in Spondyloarthritis (SpA) and Gout: An Ultrasound Comparative Study.

Objective: To compare the assessment of entheses in subjects with spondyloarthritis (SpA) with patients with gout by the Madrid Sonographic Enthesis Index (MASEI).

Method: This cross-sectional study includes videos of entheses evaluated by ultrasound (US) of 30 patients with SpA diagnosed according to the ASAS criteria and 30 patients with gout established by the presence of monosodium urate crystals. Entheses were evaluated for MASEI in 2 Institutes located in two different countries.

This suggests that the factors contributing to this condition need to be reconsidered since some new factors are arising as etiological causes of this disease. Survival of RB51 and S19 Vaccine Strains in Fresh and Ripened Cheeses.

Brucellosis is a zoonotic infection caused by the consumption of contaminated raw milk and dairy products. This study aims to compare survival rates of RB51 and S19 vaccine strains to that of virulent 2308 strain during the manufacture of fresh and ripened cheeses. To do this, we inoculated fresh pasteurized milk with RB51, S19, or 2308 at a 6 × 10 colony-forming unit per milliliter concentration during the cheese making process.

Background: The conversion to open surgery (COS) during the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) is reported to occur at a rate of 10-15%.
