Cyclosporine absorption has been key to obtaining adequate results in immunosuppressive regimens. Since 2005, we have used a different monitoring program for Cyclosporine among pediatric liver transplant recipients namely, two hours post dosing concentrations (O(2)). This study of 128 patients included 50.

Unlabelled: Iron deficiency and anemia have a very high prevalence and serious consequences for infants and pregnant women. Since late 2002, the Remediar Program provided free iron to the vulnerable population. Question arises whether free provision favors access to the drug.

Primary nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) is a genetic, chronic disease characterised by lack of distal renal tubule to antidiuretic hormone. The condition produces polyuria, polydipsia, and consequently, reduced caloric intake and growth failure. There is very scarce information on physical growth of affected children.

Information on prevalence and type of problems of psychomotor development (PPD) is necessary for implementation of specific care programmes at field level. With the purpose of obtaining this information, a screening test, the Prueba Nacional de Pesquisa (PRUNAPE) for PPD was implemented in three health centres in San Isidro, a city near Buenos Aires, attended by different socio-economic groups: centres A and B were located in the inner city, and C in a middle-class area. The test was administered by three previously trained paediatricians to 839 apparently healthy children aged 0-5 years.

P450 aromatase (P450Aro), involved in androgen to estrogen conversion, is encoded by the CYP19 gene. P450Aro c655G>A mutation described in heterozygous form in a girl and in homozygous form in an adult male with P450Aro deficiency results in an aberrant splicing due to disruption of a donor splice site. A truncated inactive protein would be expected if intron5 is retained.

Background: Relative macrocephaly describes a large head in relation to stature, and this indicator could be helpful in depicting syndromes with large heads and short stature, providing the existence of some relationship between both measurements in normal children.
Objective: The aims of this study were (1) to evaluate the existence of a relationship between head circumference (HC), height and weight, (2) to build an instrument for evaluating it and validate its clinical utility.
Subjects And Methods: Relationship between HC, height and weight was explored in a national sample of 3571 healthy, well nourished boys and girls aged 0-5.

Background: There is agreement amongst most investigators now on the fact that growth, when measured over short periods, is an irregular and non-linear process. However, many aspects related to this process still remain controversial, for example, the continuity or discontinuity of the daily changes and the degree of existence of age differences in growth patterns.
Aim: In this study we analyse and compare growth in height based on daily measurements in three samples of healthy children: Eight infants (I), 16 schoolchildren (S) and 10 adolescent girls during their pubertal growth spurt (A).
Introduction: Basiliximab is a monoclonal antibody directed to the interleukin-2 receptor. Several studies have demonstrated both its efficacy and safety. Even with the use of polyclonal antibodies in renal pediatric transplant recipients, the local incidence of steroid-resistant rejections has been close to 10% of the total incidence of acute rejection episodes (AREs).

Unlabelled: In the last decade, most investigators found that growth measured on a daily or weekly basis is a non-linear process, but its precise pattern has not yet been fully determined. Data are particularly scarce during puberty. On this basis we evaluated the daily growth in 10 healthy girls during their adolescent growth spurt with replicated height measurements over a period of 128-150 days.

In Argentina, there is no information on ages of attainment of developmental milestones and very few data about environmental factors that influence them. A national survey on the psychomotor development of children under 6 years of age was carried out with the help of 129 paediatricians. Logistic regression was applied to a final sample of 3573 healthy, normal children in order to estimate selected centiles (25th, 50th, 75th and 90th), together with their respective confidence intervals, of the ages of attainment of 78 developmental items belonging to the following areas: personal-social (18 items), fine motor (19), language (18) and gross motor (23).

Patients with a dominant small deletion (818del4, hotspot) in the interferon-gamma receptor 1 (IFNGR1) gene (6q23-q24) and increased susceptibility to mycobacterial infections have been recently reported. We describe a female patient homozygous for a 4-bp deletion in exon 5 of IFNGR1 (561del4) who developed postvaccinal disseminated Bacille Calmette-Guerin infection. She was born to unrelated Argentinean parents, each of whom was heterozygous for this mutation.

A total of 211 selected paediatricians were invited to participate in a national survey designed to evaluate the age of attainment of developmental milestones in children aged 0-5 years. Following a pilot study and a cascade training design, 61.1% of the paediatricians successfully completed the data collection on 139 developmental items.

One previously trained observer assessed skeletal maturity in a representative sample of 388 and 387 healthy girls and boys respectively from La Plata city, a predominantly university and administrative urban centre in Argentina. The staging system used was TWII and the scores were calculated from three sources: British, Spanish and Italian standards. Our sample showed a marked advancement in bone age with regard to chronological age when using British standards and, to a lesser extent, when applying the Spanish standards.

Renal biopsies from 19 boys and 11 girls, most with moderate or severe forms of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) of the classic diarrhea-associated type, were analyzed as part of their long-term follow-up. Patients were biopsied because of late or persistent proteinuria, hypertension, and prolonged renal failure. The median length of follow-up was 11.

Differences between reported and properly measured parental height were evaluated in 82 mothers and 62 fathers attending either of two growth clinics in Buenos Aires city. Measured height was adjusted to its physiological decline with age. A significant trend towards overestimation of mother's and father's self stature and of mothers' report of their husband's stature was found in the private clinic (PRC).
