A new option to prevent fistulas in anterior urethroplasty in patients with kippered urethra: the tunica vaginalis flap.

The objective of this study is describing a technique with the use of a tunica vaginalis flap (TVF) to cover the suture line during anterior urethroplasty in patients with kippered urethra due to chronic indwelling catheterization (CIC). We studied 5 patients (mean age=50.2) with a neurogenic bladder that developed urethral erosion after a long period of CIC.

CLINICAL course of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis in adults from Rio de Janeiro: Retrospective study of 23 cases and literature review.

Background: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare inflammatory demyelinating disorder. Most studies involve white children in developed countries in the northern hemisphere. Urethroplasty with tunica vaginalis flap for correction of a rare complication of indwelling catheterization: the kippered urethra.

Purpose: Kippered urethra is a rare complication of chronic indwelling catheterization (CIC) (1). In this condition, the urethral reconstruction is a challenge owing to local tissue scarring and a paucity of adjacent healthy tissue. The use of flaps is very important to protect the suture line and avoid fistulas (2).

Hand hygiene in high-complexity sectors as an integrating element in the combat of Sars-CoV-2.

Objective: to perform a situational diagnosis of the behavior of health professionals concerning hand hygiene practices in highly-complex sectors.

Methods: this quantitative and retrospective study was based on reports (2016 and 2017) of Adult and Pediatric ICUs of a Federal hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

Results: one thousand two hundred fifty-eight opportunities for hand hygiene were analysed.

Effectiveness and Adverse Events of Use of Natalizumab in a Brazilian Cohort of Patients With Multiple Sclerosis.

Purpose: Natalizumab (NTZ) is a monoclonal antibody with confirmed efficacy in white populations with recurrent-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS); there are few studies, however, in mixed-race populations. Real-world studies of NTZ are needed to better understand the drug's effectiveness. This study evaluated the effectiveness and adverse events of NTZ in a cohort of Brazilian patients with MS, as well as the impact of clinical and demographic factors on patient response to treatment.

The close relationship between sudden loss of smell and COVID-19.

Introduction: The real number of COVID-19 cases may be underestimated since several countries have difficulty offering laboratory tests for all the population. Therefore, finding a symptom with a high predictive value would help in diagnostic and isolation strategies.

Objective: To correlate the sudden loss of the sense of smell in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with results of diagnostic tests for COVID-19.
