Association of an IFN-γ variant with susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B by the enhancement of HBV DNA replication.

Cytokine

July 2021

Laboratory of Microbiology, UR12SP34, University Hospital Farhat Hached, Sousse, Tunisia; Laboratory of Biological and Genetic Markers Studying for Early Diagnosis and Follow-up of Neurological Diseases, LR18ES47, Faculty of Medicine, Sousse, Tunisia.

Interferon gamma (IFN-γ) is a crucial cytokine in host immune response to hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This study aimed to determine whether a functional polymorphism +874T/A in IFN-γ gene linked to high and low producer phenotypes [IFN-γ (+874T → A)] may alter the outcomes of chronic HBV infection in Tunisian population. The +874T/A was analysed by ARMS-PCR method in the group of 200 patients chronically infected with HBV and 200 healthy controls.

Interaction analysis of IL-12A and IL-12B gene variants with chronic hepatitis B infection in Tunisian patients.

Immunol Lett

September 2020

Laboratory of Microbiology, Genetic Characterization of Infectious Diseases, UR12SP34 University Hospital Farhat Hached, Sousse, Tunisia; Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Sousse, Tunisia.

Given the key role of interleukin-12 (IL-12) in the control of HBV, we investigated the possible correlation between IL-12A rs568408 and IL-12B rs3212227 polymorphisms and the risk of chronic HBV infection in Tunisian population. Two hundred patients with chronic HBV infection and two hundred healthy controls were genotyped using PCR-RFLP. A allele, AA and AG genotypes of IL-12A rs568408 were more represented in the chronic HBV infection group compared to the control group, and they were associated with 1.

July 2020

Centre de Recherche du Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CRCHUM), 900 St-Denis Street, Tour Viger, R08.452, Montréal, Québec H2X 0A9, Canada; School of Kinesiology and Physical Activity Sciences, Université de Montréal, 2100, boul. Édouard-Montpetit, Montréal, Québec H3T 1J4, Canada. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Several studies have indicated physical activity can help prevent and treat preeclampsia, yet no research has been conducted in Africa to explore this connection.
  • The study involved 106 pregnant Tunisian women, comparing physical activity levels between healthy women and those with preeclampsia using a questionnaire.
  • Results showed women with preeclampsia were more sedentary, while those who exercised had a longer pregnancy duration, suggesting that increased physical activity is linked to better pregnancy health and reduced risk of preeclampsia.

Legionella pneumophila sg1-sensing signal enhancement using a novel electrochemical immunosensor in dynamic detection mode.

Talanta

August 2020

Environments, Territories, Societies (EVS) Lab, Mixed Research Unit (Jean Monnet University - French National Centre for Scientific Research) 5600, University of Lyon, F42023, France.

This work presents a comparison between static and dynamic modes of biosensing using a novel microfluidic assay for continuous and quantitative detection of Legionella pneumophila sg1 in artificial water samples. A self-assembled monolayer of 16-amino-1-hexadecanethiol (16-AHT) was covalently linked to a gold substrate, and the resulting modified surface was used to immobilize an anti-Legionella pneumophila monoclonal antibody (mAb). The modified surfaces formed during the biosensor functionalization steps were characterized using electrochemical measurements and microscopic imaging techniques.
