[Argentinean registry on the management of Helicobacter pylori infection: effectiveness and safety of first line treatment].

Introduction: The optimal management of Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) infection remains unclear. Updated information concerning local data is needed to design the best strategy to treat H. pylori infection to reach high eradication rates.

Analysis of the different pathways of ectopic recurrence of craniopharyngioma in pediatric patients: presentation of cases and review of the literature.

Purpose: Craniopharyngioma is a tumor derived from the squamous epithelium of Rathke's pouch. Despite successful excision, recurrence is common, typically occurring at the original tumor site. More rarely, recurrences can manifest at distant locations.

Effectiveness of methotrexate and leflunomide as corticoid-sparing drugs in patients with polymyalgia rheumatica.

Objectives: The need for glucocorticoid-sparing drugs (GCSD) remains an important issue and is an unmet need in the treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). We therefore aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of methotrexate (MTX) and of leflunomide (LEF) in daily clinical practice in PMR patients from Argentina.

Methods: A multicentre and observational study (medical records review) of PMR patients seen between 2007 and 2023, who had at least three months of follow-up after starting a GCSD, either MTX or LEF, was performed.

Background: Previously we performed clinical encapsulated neonatal porcine islet transplantation under comprehensive regulation, and demonstrated the efficacy and safety. To analyze the patients' quality of life (QOL), we assessed patients' opinions 10 years after islet xenotransplantation.

Methods: Twenty-one type 1 diabetic patients received microencapsulated neonatal porcine islet transplants in Argentina were enrolled.

Background: The impact of the pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) in low- and middle-income countries remains poorly understood. Our aim was to understand the characteristics and outcomes of PIMS-TS in Argentina.

Methods: This observational, prospective, and retrospective multicenter study enrolled patients younger than 18 years-old manifesting PIMS-TS, Kawasaki disease (KD) or Kawasaki shock syndrome (KSS) between March 2020 and May 2021.

Impact of Deletions in the Prognosis of Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Argentina.

An association of deletions in the IKZF1 gene (IKZF1del) with poor prognosis in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has been demonstrated. Additional deletions in other genes (IKZF1plus) define different IKZF1del subsets. We analyzed the influence of IKZF1del and/or IKZF1plus in the survival of children with ALL.

Multicenter lupus register from Argentina, the RELESSAR database: Influence of ethnicity on disease phenotype.

Objective: The objective is to describe the main characteristics of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Argentina and to examine the influence of ethnicity on the expression of the disease.

Patients And Methods: RELESSAR is a multicentre register carried out by 106 researchers from 67 rheumatologic Argentine centres. It is a cross-sectional study of SLE (1982/1997 ACR) patients.

Humoral and cellular immune memory response 12 years following single dose vaccination against hepatitis A in Argentinian children.

Infants' universal hepatitis A virus (HAV) single-dose vaccination has been highly effective for controlling HAV infection in Argentina, and in other Latin-American countries that adopted that strategy. Although antibodies wane over time, this has not been associated with HAV outbreaks or breakthrough infections, suggesting a relevant role for memory immunity. This study assessed long term humoral and cellular immune memory response after an average of 12 years follow-up of HAV single-dose vaccination.

[Inhalotherapy: Recommendations for Argentina 2021].

Last decades, a broad spectrum of inhaled devices (ID) had been developed to enhance efficacy and reduce adverse events. The correct use of IDs is a critical issue for controlling obstructive respiratory diseases. There is no recommendation on inhalation therapy in Argentina.

PCOS and nutritional approaches: Differences between lean and obese phenotype.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine/metabolic disorder with an ever-increasing prevalence. It has various clinical characteristics; the cardinals are androgen excess, oligo-anovulatory infertility, polycystic ovaries, insulin resistance (IR), and cardiometabolic alterations. These disturbances are a consequence of PCOS's complex etiology.

[Assessment of left ventricular contractility in patients with severe aortic stenosis, low-flow, low-gradient and preserved ejection fraction].

Introduction: In patients with severe aortic stenosis, low-gradient, low-flow and preserved ejection fraction (≥ 50%) (LG/LFp) the decrease in stroke volume index (Svi) could be due to diminished contractility. The aim of this study was to analyze if low Svi in patients with LG/LFp is related to a decrease in contractility.

Methods: Thirty patients with LF/LGp and 63 normal subjects were studied with Doppler echocardiography.

Myositis-specific antibodies and clinical characteristics in patients with autoimmune inflammatory myopathies: reported by the Argentine Registry of Inflammatory Myopathies of the Argentine Society of Rheumatology.

Introduction/objectives: To describe clinical features in patients with inflammatory myopathies (IMs) from the Argentine Registry of Inflammatory Myopathies, and their relationship with myositis-specific antibodies (MSAs).

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 360 adult patients with dermatomyositis (DM), polymyositis (PM), and inclusion body myositis. Demographics, clinical, and serological characteristics were retrospectively recorded (2016-2019).

Surgery is a critical period in the survival of patients with cancer. While resective surgery of primary tumors has shown to prolong the life of these patients, it can also promote mechanisms associated with metastatic progression. Long-term follow-up for the microbiological safety of clinical microencapsulated neonatal porcine islet transplantation.

Enrollment in three clinical trials for microencapsulated neonatal porcine islet xenotransplantation to treat unstable type 1 diabetic patients concluded in November 2014. In this study, we report a long-term follow-up assessment of microbiological safety for these trials. Thirty-eight type 1 diabetic patients received microencapsulated neonatal porcine islet transplants.

A Latin American survey on demographic aspects of hospitalized, decompensated cirrhotic patients and the resources for their management.

Introduction & Objectives: Liver cirrhosis is a major cause of mortality worldwide. Adequate diagnosis and treatment of decompensating events requires of both medical skills and updated technical resources. The objectives of this study were to search the demographic profile of hospitalized cirrhotic patients in a group of Latin American hospitals and the availability of expertise/facilities for the diagnosis and therapy of decompensation episodes.

General care in the management of severe traumatic brain injury: Latin American consensus.

Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) remains prevalent in the young adult population. Indeed, far from descending, the incidence of sTBI remains high. One of the key bases of treatment is to avoid, detect and correct secondary injuries of systemic origin, which aggravate the primary lesion.

Bacillus cereus bacteremia in a patient with an abdominal stab wound.

Bacillus cereus is a gram positive microorganism commonly involved in gastrointestinal infection but capable of causing severe infections and bacteremia. We describe here a case of bacteremia caused by B. cereus in a previously healthy young woman admitted to the intensive care unit following emergency surgery due to a penetrating abdominal stab wound and subsequent hepatic lesion.

[Recognition of basic emotions and their main confusers in Alzheimer-type dementia].

Introduction: An alteration in the recognition of basic emotions is usually observed in Alzheimer's type dementia. Although there is some consensus that basic emotions are six, more recent studies conclude that there may be a combination between fear/ surprise and disgust/anger. This pattern has not yet been investigated in the Alzheimer's type dementia.

[Molecular epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii in Argentina].

One hundred sequential, epidemiologically unrelated carbapenem-resistant- Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from 11 hospitals in 10 Argentine provinces were collected between January and August 2016. Genes coding for Ambler class D and B carbapenemases were investigated by PCR using specific primers. All isolates were typed using the 3-locus sequence typing and blalike sequence-based typing techniques.
