Decision Support System for Selection of e-Health Interventions.

The main goal of this work was to design a decision support system for effective personalized cardiovascular risk prevention: i) to identify behavioral groups associated with clinical risk factors, ii) to provide recommendations associated with the objective to be achieved and iii) to determine the decision-making rules assigning each group to the type of mobile health intervention conveying the most appropriate prevention messages, to help patients to achieve attainable goals. The system is based on an existing data prediction model taking into account specific risky behaviors, clinical risk factors and social status, and it is embedded in a new e-health application. The system is operational.

C5b9 Deposition in Glomerular Capillaries Is Associated With Poor Kidney Allograft Survival in Antibody-Mediated Rejection.

C4d deposition in peritubular capillaries (PTC) reflects complement activation in antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR) of kidney allograft. However, its association with allograft survival is controversial. We hypothesized that capillary deposition of C5b9-indicative of complement-mediated injury-is a severity marker of ABMR.

Functional status in a geriatric oncology setting: A review.

Background: Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), is used in older patients with cancer to identify frailties, which can interfere with specialized treatment, and to help with therapeutic care. Functional Status (FS) is a domain of CGA in which Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) are evaluation tools.

Objective: Our study reviewed the data available on the most frequently used tools to assess ADL and IADL in a geriatric oncology setting and their predictive values on overall survival (OS), toxicity, treatment feasibility or decision and postoperative complications.

C4 Nephritic Factors in C3 Glomerulopathy: A Case Series.

The role of complement in C3 glomerulopathy.

Lessons learned from simultaneous face and bilateral hand allotransplantation.

Spot stenting of the tear in type B aortic dissection.

Background: In selected type B acute aortic dissection with aortic growth and patent false lumen, an intervention may be required to prevent aortic rupture. Apart from stent grafting of the thoracic aorta, aimed at occluding the primary intimal tear, some have advocated closure of reentry tears by stent grafting of the aortic true lumen after hybrid revascularization of the excluded viscera or by branched aortic endografts.

Methods: We describe a simple technique for occluding a major reentry tear in the visceral abdominal aorta, using on-the-shelf covered stent grafts, arising from the aortic true lumen, crossing the dissection septum tear and aortic false lumen, and being distally anchored in the visceral branch vessel, acting as a rivet on the dissection septum tear, achieving aortic false lumen thrombosis.

Prevention of postcardiopulmonary bypass pericardial adhesions by a new resorbable collagen membrane.

Reduction in mediastinal adhesions is an issue in cardiac surgery. To evaluate a porcine-bioengineered collagen membrane (Cova™ CARD) intended to promote tissue regeneration, 18 sheep underwent a sternotomy and a 30 min period of cardiopulmonary bypass. They were divided into three equal groups: pericardium left open, placement of an e-polytetrafluoroethylene membrane (Preclude(®)) taken as a non-absorbable substitute comparator and placement of the absorbable Cova™ CARD membrane.

Renin inhibition with aliskiren: where are we now, and where are we going?

With the development of aliskiren, blockade of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) at the level of the interaction of renin with a substrate has become a clinical reality. This review covers the specific features of the first agent likely to achieve widespread clinical exposure, aliskiren. The potential of renin inhibition must be viewed in the context of the remarkable efficacy of both angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs).

Potential exposure to hepatitis C virus through accidental blood contact in interventional radiology.

Purpose: To quantify the prevalence of accidental blood exposure (ABE) among interventional radiologists and contrast that with the prevalence of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) undergoing interventional radiology procedures.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter epidemiologic study was conducted in radiology wards in France. The risk of ABE to radiologists was assessed based on personal interviews that determined the frequency and type of ABE and the use of standard protective barriers.
