Background Coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) may occur after Kawasaki disease (KD) and lead to important morbidity and mortality. As CAA in patients with KD are rare and heterogeneous lesions, prognostication and risk stratification are difficult. We sought to derive the cumulative risk and associated factors for cardiovascular complications in patients with CAAs after KD.

Treatment with statins requires close monitoring of serum creatine kinase levels to prevent myopathy, which is a rare but potentially serious dose-dependent adverse effect of these drugs. Statins are cholesterol-lowering drugs that are among the most prescribed drugs worldwide and are considered effective in reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events. Although statins are generally well-tolerated, myopathies are a rare but known adverse event, ranging from muscle pain to very rare cases of life-threatening rhabdomyolysis.

Background: Neuropsychological performance has a strong impact on real-life functioning and clinical outcomes in psychosis. However, conducting lengthy cognitive assessments may not be feasible in routine clinical practice. Brief, reliable and cost-effective tools are highly needed, but few studies are available to guide clinician choice.

Objective: Although there is a consensus that cannabis intoxication will have deleterious effects on a wide spectrum of cognitive skills, there is no consensus regarding the duration of time from last use necessary to ameliorate these effects.
Method: A systematic review and series of meta-analyses were undertaken to assess anticipated gains in verbal learning with longer periods of cannabis abstinence. Studies assessing verbal learning performance in abstinent regular cannabis users and nonusing control participants; studies reporting length of cannabis abstinence at the time of neuropsychological assessment; and studies implementing one of three highly comparable measures of verbal learning and memory were included in the analyses.

A BDNF rs6265 [A/A] by gender by cannabis use interaction has been associated with age of onset of psychosis (AoP). We examined the gender and cannabis use-adjusted association between BDNF rs6265 [G>A] and AKT1 rs2494732 [T>C] and AoP. Data from 167 Caucasians on AoP and age at first regular cannabis use were collected.

The direct or indirect experience of crime can cause individuals to feel vengeful against the perpetrator(s). The prison system reflects this sentiment by creating austere environments that are dehumanizing, punitive, and hopeless. Prisons are, therefore, environments in which retribution and punishment take priority over rehabilitation.

In 2015, the neonatal resuscitation guidelines incorporated the use of electrocardiography (ECG) to monitor heart rate of newborns. However, previous studies have indicated that cardiac arrest with pulseless electrical activity rhythm (PEA) may occur in the delivery room, rendering this method problematic. To evaluate the accuracy of ECG and auscultation to assess heart rate during PEA.

Increasing industrialization, urbanization, and a failure of many world leaders to appreciate the consequences of climate change are deleteriously impacting quality of life as well as diminishing the prospects for long term survival. Economic competitiveness and corporate profitability often pre-empt environmental concerns. The calving of an iceberg in Antarctica and the hurricane activity in the Caribbean during 2017 are unfortunate illustrations of the continuing escalation of environmental issues.
