Aim: to assess the presence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with risk factors for this pathology (obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome and diabetes type 2) and to determine the role of insulin, HOMA index, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1, sex hormone-binding globulin and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1, as biochemical markers.

Methods: Ninety-one patients with risk factors for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were evaluated. Serum transaminases, insulin, sex hormone-binding globulin, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 were measured.

Introduction: The high incidence of erectile dysfunction (ED) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in aging men and the same pathophysiology make probable to treat both disorders with the same treatment. Numerous authors evaluated the actions of PDE5i in improving the LUTS/(benign prostate hyperplasia) BPH.

Aim: To assess the efficacy and safety of tamsulosin 0.

Background: Although most patients at high risk of Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia (GTN) respond to standard treatments, there is a group of patients that will die because of it. The use of new single or combination drugs in this population has become a priority.

Case Report: We present the case of a relapsed high risk choriocarcinoma patient who did not respond to several chemotherapy treatments nor to PET guided salvage surgery.

Objective: The study analyzed the role of different variables that determine long-term sinus rhythm maintenance in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation who are treated with amiodarone.

Background: It has been recognized that different factors influence long-term sinus rhythm preservation after the conversion of persistent atrial fibrillation. Although the duration of the arrhythmia appears to be the most important factor, consistent information regarding the role of the mode of arrhythmia conversion (pharmacologic or electric) is still lacking.

Morphological modifications in clitoris and vagina in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Int J Impot Res

June 2003

Sexual Dysfunction Section, Urology Division, Hospital Durand, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

We evaluated possible morphological alteration in clitoris and vagina from spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive WKY rats. Clitoris and vagina were processed by Masson's trichrome, anti-alpha-smooth-muscle actin, anticollagen type I (COL I) and type III (COL III), and anti-TGFbeta(1). SHR presented higher amount of clitoral cavernous smooth muscle (CSM), vascular smooth muscle; TGFbeta(1) in clitoral vessel wall; higher wall/lumen ratio in both vaginal and clitoral vessels; and remarkable interstitial fibrosis, expressed by a higher amount in interstitial COL I and III in both clitoris and vagina, compared to WKY rats.

Twenty five percent of the medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is hereditary and 5% is familiar (FMTC), or considered as multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) type 2A (17%) or 2B (3%). These diseases are the result of the autosomic dominant inheritance of a mutation in the RET protooncogene, in one out of 12 different known codons. We analyzed 7 families (2 MEN 2A and 5 FMTC).
