Introduction: Peyronie's disease (PD) is a localized fibrosis that affects the tunica albuginea of the penis. Its origin can be associated with coital penile trauma in men with autoimmune hypersensitivity and a presumed genetic predisposition.

Aim: To identify clinical and traumatic risk factors in a patient population with PD, when compared to a control group.

[Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1: a new biochemical marker of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease?].

Aim: to assess the presence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with risk factors for this pathology (obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome and diabetes type 2) and to determine the role of insulin, HOMA index, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1, sex hormone-binding globulin and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1, as biochemical markers.

Methods: Ninety-one patients with risk factors for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were evaluated. Serum transaminases, insulin, sex hormone-binding globulin, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 and plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 were measured.

An adjustable male sling for treating urinary incontinence after prostatectomy: a phase III multicentre trial.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a new adjustable bulbourethral sling (Argus, Promedon SA, Cordoba, Argentina) in the treatment of male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after prostate surgery.

Patients And Methods: In all, 48 patients with SUI because of prostatic surgery for prostate cancer (39) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (nine) had a new sling implanted in a multicentre trial at six institutions between April 2003 and September 2004. All patients were fully evaluated, including a questionnaire (International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form, ICIQ-SF, range 0-21), endoscopy, and urodynamic evaluation.

Morphological modifications in clitoris and vagina in spontaneously hypertensive rats.

We evaluated possible morphological alteration in clitoris and vagina from spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive WKY rats. Clitoris and vagina were processed by Masson's trichrome, anti-alpha-smooth-muscle actin, anticollagen type I (COL I) and type III (COL III), and anti-TGFbeta(1). SHR presented higher amount of clitoral cavernous smooth muscle (CSM), vascular smooth muscle; TGFbeta(1) in clitoral vessel wall; higher wall/lumen ratio in both vaginal and clitoral vessels; and remarkable interstitial fibrosis, expressed by a higher amount in interstitial COL I and III in both clitoris and vagina, compared to WKY rats.

[Study of RET protooncogene in multiple endocrine neoplasm 2A and in familial medullary thyroid carcinoma. Clinical pathological findings in asymptomatic carriers].
