Methods: This retrospective study included 231 CD patients (training cohort, n = 112; internal validation cohort, n = 48; external validation cohort, n = 71) from two tertiary centers. Machine-learning VAT model and bowel model were developed separately to identify CD patients with primary nonresponse to IFX.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an increasingly prevalent inflammatory disorder worldwide. Its complex etiology has recently brought dietary factors, particularly fiber intake, into focus as potential influencers. Our study investigates the intricate relationship between various sources of dietary fiber and RA, emphasizing the mediating role of the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII).

Standardization and Implementation of a Surgical Coaching Model for Pediatric Urology.

To bridge gaps in proficiency and encourage life-long learning following training, coaching models have been utilized in multiple surgical fields; however, not within pediatric urology. In this review of our methodology, we describe the development of a coaching model at a single institution. In our initial experience, the perceived most beneficial aspect of the program was the goal setting process with logistics around debriefs being the most challenging.

Misdiagnosis of β-Thalassemia Major Due to Chinese γ+(γδβ)-Thalassemia Combined with β-Thalassemia.

δβ-thalassemia is a rare type of thalassemia characterized by increased Hb F levels, including mainly Chinese γ(γδβ)-thalassemia, Yunnanese γ(γδβ)-thalassemia, Cantonese γ(γδβ)-thalassemia in China. Due to the low rate of δβ-thalassemia carriers, there are few reports of δβ-thalassemia combined with β-thalassemia causing β-thalassemia major. Herein, we described the combination of Chinese γ(γδβ)-thalassemia and β-thalassemia leading to β-thalassemia major in a Chinese patient.

Functional neuroimaging emerged with great promise and has provided fundamental insights into the neurobiology of schizophrenia. However, it has faced challenges and criticisms, most notably a lack of clinical translation. This paper provides a comprehensive review and critical summary of the literature on functional neuroimaging, in particular functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), in schizophrenia.

Clinical and dosimetric predictors of radiation-induced rhinosinusitis following VMAT for nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A retrospective study.

Background: We aimed to investigate the clinical and dosimetric factors associated with radiation-induced rhinosinusitis, and further elucidate the optimal dose-volume constraints for nasopharyngeal cancer patients who underwent volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT).

Methods: A retrospective review of 196 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients who underwent definitive VMAT between August 2018 and May 2021 was conducted. Both clinical and dose-volume histogram (DVH) data of NPC patients without rhinosinusitis at baseline were selected for analysis.

This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy and effect of blood purification (BP) therapy on severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Information on 305 patients (BP group 68, control group 237) diagnosed with SAP was retrieved from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC IV) database. Firstly, the influence of BP treatment was preliminarily evaluated by comparing the outcome indicators of the two groups.

Nuclear membrane protein SUN2 promotes replication of flaviviruses through modulating cytoskeleton reorganization mediated by NS1.

In this study, we uncovered an essential role of a nuclear membrane protein, SAD1/UNC84 domain protein 2 (SUN2) linking cytoskeleton and nucleoskeleton in the flavivirus replication. CRISPR/Cas9-mediated knockout of SUN2, but not SUN1, significantly reduces the replication of Zika virus (ZIKV), dengue virus (DENV), and Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV).

Genetic mutation analysis of hereditary spherocytosis in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is a common, hereditary hemolytic anemia (HHA) that is attributed to the disturbance of five erythrocyte membrane proteins. HS is also common in Guangxi, China. Target region capture high-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze genetic mutations found in HS patients.

Longitudinal program evaluation of an inter-institutional mentorship network for pediatric rheumatology using a quality improvement framework.

Background: The American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) Mentoring Interest Group (AMIGO) is an inter-institutional mentorship program launched to target mentorship gaps within pediatric rheumatology. Initial program evaluation indicated increased mentorship access. Given the small size of the pediatric rheumatology workforce, maintaining a consistent supply of mentors was a potential threat to the longevity of the network.

Nurse-led intervention in the management of patients with cardiovascular diseases: a brief literature review.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one among the major causes of mortality in patients all around the globe. It has been reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) that approximately 80% of cardiovascular diseases could be prevented through lifestyle modifications. Management of CAD involves the prevention and control of cardiovascular risk factors, invasive and non-invasive treatments including coronary revascularizations, adherence to proper medications and regular outpatient follow-ups.

Ozone, Heat Wave, and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality: A Population-Based Case-Crossover Study.

A case-crossover study among 511,767 cardiovascular disease (CVD) deaths in Jiangsu province, China, during 2015-2021 was conducted to assess the association of exposure to ambient ozone (O) and heat wave with CVD mortality and explore their possible interactions. Heat wave was defined as extreme high temperature for at least two consecutive days. Grid-level heat waves were defined by multiple combinations of apparent temperature thresholds and durations.

Real-world data of MDS and CMML in Japan: results of JALSG clinical observational study-11 (JALSG-CS-11).

We conducted a multicenter, prospective observational study of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) in Japan. From August 2011 to January 2016, we enrolled 6568 patients. Herein, we report the results for MDS (n = 2747) and CMML (n = 182).

Quantitative Parameters of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Predicting the Response to Combined Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor and Anti-angiogenesis Therapies for Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Objective: The aim of the work described here was to explore the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) quantitative parameters in predicting the response of combined immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) and anti-angiogenesis therapies for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Sixty-six HCC patients who underwent combined ICI and anti-angiogenesis therapies were prospectively enrolled. A CEUS examination was performed at baseline, and tumor perfusion parameters were obtained with perfusion quantification software.

The role of robotic surgery in neurological cases: A systematic review on brain and spine applications.

The application of robotic surgery technologies in neurological surgeries resulted in some advantages compared to traditional surgeries, including higher accuracy and dexterity enhancement. Its success in various surgical fields, especially in urology, cardiology, and gynecology surgeries was reported in previous studies, and similar advantages in neurological surgeries are expected. Surgeries in the central nervous system with the pathology of millimeters through small working channels around vital tissue need especially high precision.

Recognizing and Responding to Patients with Personality Disorders.

Caring for patients with personality disorders and traits presents unique challenges for physicians and other providers. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, recognizes 10 personality disorders, which are organized into 3 clusters (A, B, and C) based on shared diagnostic features. Personality disorders or traits create difficulty in clinical and interpersonal interactions, promoting missed diagnosis or underdiagnosis, nonadherence to medical recommendations, or other dangerous outcomes.

Development and Assessment of Nomogram Based on AFP Response for Patients with Unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treated with Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been increasingly used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Prognostic biomarkers are an unmet need. We aimed to develop a prognostic nomogram for patients with unresectable HCC receiving ICIs therapy.

Background: Hyperuricemia is associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Aim: We therefore aimed at evaluating the influence of allopurinol on the course of NAFLD in rats.

Study Design: We divided 21 mature albino Sprague Dawley rats into three groups: controls (n = 7, normal diet for 12 weeks); NAFLD rat models (by feeding water containing 30% fructose for first 8 weeks) treated with allopurinol subsequently for the next 4 weeks (n = 7); and similar case treated with placebo (saline) subsequently for the next 4 weeks (n = 7).
