Introduction: Shoulder stabilization surgery is common among military personnel, causing severe acute postoperative pain that may contribute to the development of chronic pain, thereby reducing military readiness. Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA) has shown promise as a non-pharmaceutical intervention for acute postoperative pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of BFA combined with standard physical therapy on pain, self-reported mood, self-reported improvement, and medication use in patients after shoulder stabilization surgery.

Porokeratosis is a condition characterized by abnormal epidermal keratinization with a unique morphology of papules or plaques surrounded by a thread-like border of scale corresponding to the cornoid lamella on histology. Many established subtypes have been described; however, genitogluteal porokeratosis is a rare entity. We present the case of a 58-year-old male with pruritic reddish lesions affecting the genitals and thighs, diagnosed with genital porokeratosis.

Purpose: The prognostic significance of concomitant statin use in cancer treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) remains a subject of ongoing investigation. This study aims to clarify the prognostic value of statin use in this patient population and to provide a robust, evidence-based foundation to guide therapeutic decisions.
Methods: A systematic search strategy was used across a multitude of digital archives to exhaustively identify all relevant academic literature published up until June 20, 2024.

Aims: Previous studies have shown that eGDR and TyG, as indicators of insulin resistance (IR), were key risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Our study further explored the relationship between eGDR change and new-onset CVD, and compared the predictive value of eGDR change, eGDR and TyG.
Materials And Methods: A total of 2895 participants without CVD at baseline from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) were included, using K-means clustering and cumulative eGDR to measure eGDR change between 2012 and 2015.
Background: The United States military strives to prepare soldiers physically and mentally for war while preventing injury and attrition. Previous research has focused on physical injury risk factors but has not prospectively examined psychological risk factors.
Purpose: This study's purpose was to investigate whether self-efficacy is a risk factor for musculoskeletal injury in an initial military training environment and compare it to other known risk factors.

Exposure to stressful events is linked to anxiety symptoms in children, although research examining this association in the first five years of life is limited. We sought to examine the role of various aspects of family stressful experiences such as the total accumulation, impact, and type (measured longitudinally in the first five years of life) on child anxiety symptoms at age 5 years. A community sample of children and their parents (N = 399) enrolled in a longitudinal study of emotion processing were assessed when the children were infants and at ages 2 years, 3 years, and 5 years.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of depression, anxiety, insomnia, and somatic symptom disorder (SSD) in patients with benign and malignant sinonasal tumors.
Materials And Methods: Pretreatment patients with sinonasal tumors were prospectively recruited on the rhinology ward of a tertiary hospital from July 2021 to March 2022. The electronic questionnaire which contains the rhinological symptom scale, the 22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) Scale, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15) was filled out by patients at admission.

Comorbidity among atopic diseases (ADs) and gastrointestinal diseases (GIDs) has been repeatedly demonstrated by epidemiological studies, whereas the shared genetic liability remains largely unknown. Here we establish an atlas of the shared genetic architecture between 10 ADs or related traits and 11 GIDs, comprehensively investigating the comorbidity-associated genomic regions, cell types, genes and genetically predicted causality. Although distinct genetic correlations between AD-GID are observed, including 14 genome-wide and 28 regional correlations, genetic factors of Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC), celiac disease and asthma subtypes are converged on CD4 T cells consistently across relevant tissues.

Background: The possible nonlinear association with therapeutic outcomes in ulcerative colitis may contribute to the inconclusive cutoff values of fecal calprotectin (FC). We aimed to explore the nonlinear association between FC levels and long-term therapeutic outcomes in patients with ulcerative colitis and establish a clinically applicable FC index.
Methods: We included patients treated with vedolizumab or adalimumab from the VARSITY (n=661) and GEMINI 1 (n=620) studies as discovery and validation cohorts, respectively.

Background: Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD) comprise a group of autoimmune-mediated, inflammatory, demyelinating central nervous system diseases caused by aquaporin-4 (AQP4) IgG autoantibodies. Efgartigimod is a human IgG Fc fragment that reduces antibody titers by targeting the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn). This study documents the efficacy of efgartigimod combined with intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) in the acute phase of NMOSD.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate how thyroid hormone levels are related to controlled attenuation parameters (CAP), which may provide insights for understanding the role of these factors in hepatic steatosis.
Methods: A total of 3461 participants who underwent CAP diagnosis between 2018 and 2023 were included. The associations between thyroid hormone levels and CAP were evaluated through multiple linear regression, restricted cubic splines (RCS) and threshold effect analyses.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality. Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is the most widely used diagnostic serum biomarker, but it still has limited accuracy in detecting HCC, suggesting the necessity of seeking more ideal biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity. Soluble growth stimulation gene 2 (sST2) form of growth stimulating expression gene 2 (ST2), is expressed in various organs and can bind competitively to interleukin 33 (IL-33).

The heterogeneity and suboptimal efficacy of biological treatments and small molecule drugs necessitate their precise selection based on biomarkers that predict therapeutic responses in inflammatory bowel disease. Recent studies have identified numerous novel biomarkers predictive of responses to biologics and small molecule modulators, utilizing a variety of omics approaches in inflammatory bowel disease. In this review, we systematically examine baseline omics biomarkers that predict responses to biological therapies and small molecule drugs, drawing on literature from PubMed.

Background: Over a third of children globally do not meet their developmental potential, and children living in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) are most vulnerable. Understanding the contextual factors that influence cognitive development for children in LMICs is crucial to inform and develop interventions. We sought to characterize developmental trajectories of cognition in Bangladeshi children and identify salient social determinants.

Introduction: Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines drive optimal patient care and facilitate access to high-quality treatment. Creating guidelines for rare diseases such as haemophilia, where evidence does not often come from randomized controlled trials but from non-randomized and well-designed observational studies and real-world data, is challenging. The methodology used for assessing available evidence should consider this critical fact.

Background: In-clinic gait retraining has been effective in modifying suspected biomechanical risk factors for running injury, but its feasibility is often limited by multiple clinic visits. This randomized clinical trial investigated the effects of a telehealth-based gait retraining intervention on running biomechanics, pain, and function in previously injured runners.
Methods: Twenty-three participants recovering from lower extremity injuries were randomized to a control or intervention group.
