Folate receptor (FR) overexpression in a wide range of solid tumors provides an opportunity to develop novel, targeted cancer therapeutics. In this study, we investigated whether prebinding the chemotherapeutic methotrexate (MTX) to folate-binding protein (FBP), the soluble form of FR, would enable the protein to serve as a targeted therapeutic vector, enhancing uptake into tumor cells and improving therapeutic efficacy. In an study, using an FR-overexpressing KB xenograft model in SCID mice, modest improvement in inhibiting tumor growth was observed for the MTX/FBP mixtures as compared to saline control and free MTX.

Purpose: The characteristic changes in the swallowing mechanism with aging are collectively termed presbyphagia. Although several studies have investigated presbyphagia in older adults, few have assessed oldest-old adults. We aimed to characterize the latent changes of swallowing function in oldest-old adults and to consider risk ages for presbyphagia.

Teledentistry can play a viable role both during a public health emergency and in everyday practice, contributing to sustaining, building, and improving dental practices as well as addressing health inequities. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused widespread disruptions in the delivery of dental care, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and the University of Washington (UW) implemented virtual care programs to help mitigate challenges associated with access to care. This article outlines a practical workflow for dentists to embark on teledentistry.

Background: Juvenile ossifying fibroma (JOF) is an uncommon benign fibro-osseous lesion of the craniofacial skeleton; compared to conventional ossifying fibroma (OF), JOF is characterized by local aggressiveness and propensity for recurrence. The biologic basis for this different biologic behavior between JOF and OF remains elusive. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of MDM2, CDK4 and p53, molecules associated with bone oncogenesis, in the trabecular variant of JOF.

An intact and fully functional immune system plays a crucial role in the prevention of several infectious diseases. Interleukin (IL)17 is significantly involved in oral mucosa immunity against several antigens and microorganisms, including (CA). Herein, we present three cases of oral candidiasis (OC) related to the use of an IL17A inhibitor for psoriasis.

Radiotherapy is generally used as an adjuvant treatment in malignant head and neck tumors, which can cause a series of toxicities to tissues involved in the radiation field. Hard tissue necrosis surrounding the tumor is widely debated and recognized; however, oral mucosa necrosis as a late effect of head and neck radiotherapy is a toxicity that has been little explored and understood in the literature. The present report describes a 53-year-old Caucasian, diabetic man with a painful yellowish mass in the buccal mucosa, remaining oral mucositis with history of radiotherapy completed 90 days ago as adjuvant treatment for a polymorphic adenocarcinoma in the palate.

Purpose: Chairside prosthesis adjustment procedures generate contaminated acrylic particle debris that include visible splatter (particles >50 μm) as well as invisible aerosols (<50 µm). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a chairside acrylic adjustment cabinet (CAAC) in reducing airborne aerosol particles (<10 µm) and visible acrylic debris, time required for airborne aerosols to return to baseline levels after an acrylic adjustment procedure, and the effect on operatory turnover time.
Materials And Methods: A total of 40 acrylic adjustment procedures were carried out in a simulated setting with (experiment) and without (control) a CAAC.

Purpose: Pain due to oral-mucositis (OM) in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients receiving radiotherapy (RT) /chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) can be nociceptive and/or neuropathic. Neuropathic pain (NP) often remains underdiagnosed and untreated. This study's purpose was to identify the presence of OM-induced NP in HNC patients under RT/CRT.

A fractured implant is considered a catastrophic failure that leads to the loss of the implant and the prosthesis. Available methods of implant removal include the reverse screw technique, use of trephines, or osteotomies around the implant. In case of a fractured implant, the access hole for the reverse screw technique is impossible, leading to the need for an osteotomy.

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a well-defined, non-Hodgkin lymphoma of B-cell origin displaying diverse morphological phenotypes and variable disease course. The World Health Organization recognizes two aggressive histopathologic variants of this type of lymphoma: pleomorphic and blastoid MCL. To date, only few cases of MCL affecting the oral cavity have been reported.

Background: Osteomyelitis with proliferative periostitis is a relatively uncommon inflammatory condition of the jaws, mainly characterized by periosteal formation of reactive bone. It primarily affects children and adolescences, also referred to as Garre's osteomyelitis, more frequently involving the molar region of the mandible. Cases lacking an obvious source of infection may have an immunologically mediated etiopathogenesis, falling under the spectrum of primary chronic osteomyelitis or chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO).

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the association between home visits by a dentist and regular oral hygiene management by a dental hygienist (regular dental management: RDM) and weight loss among older adults in long-term care facilities.
Methods: A total of 468 older residents from 26 Japanese long-term care facilities participated in two surveys in 2018 and 2019. Participants were divided into two groups based on their diet during the baseline survey (regular diet, n = 256; dysphagia diet, n = 212).

Changing the food form for older adults requiring nursing care from a regular to dysphagia diet is thought to impact their nutritional status. We assessed the association between changes in food form and weight loss over 1 year in older adults. Older adults residing in long-term care facilities in Japan ( = 455) who participated in the baseline (2018) and follow-up (2019) surveys were divided into two groups (regular diet, = 284; dysphagia diet, = 171).

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most commonly occurring neoplasm in patients with Gorlin syndrome. It is widely accepted that multiple basal cell carcinomas simultaneously develop in middle-aged patients with this syndrome. However, the presence of driver genes other than the PTCH1 in Gorlin syndrome has not been explored.
