Objective: Prenatal depression is a major public health problem that is barely treated. Based on existing literature, depression during this period is associated with negative consequences for the mother and the baby. Therefore it is important to make an adequate screening in this population.

[Prognostic factors for the efficacy of Silodosin in the treatment of symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. Subanalysis of the URAL study.].

Objective: To identify the prognostic factors influencing the clinical and urodynamics results on symptomatic benign prostatic hypertrophy (BHP) treatment in a series of patients with silodosin therapy from the URAL study.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed in a cohort of 318 patients with BPH which underwent silodosine treatment, during at least 12 weeks.

Results: Univariate analysis demonstrated that the variables in relationship with a decrease of urinary symptoms` punctuation postreatment (measured with the IPSS Questionnaire), a maximum peak flow (Q max) postreatment equal or superior to 15 ml/s, a postreatment postvoid residual lower to 100 ml, and a postreatment obstruction index ( Bladder Outlet Obstruction Index: BOOI) equal or lower to 20 cm H2O, presented such both as a clinical and urodynamic character.

[Medical treatment of symptoms associated with double J catheters: Scientific evidence.].

Double J stents are used in Urology in an important number of pathologies. These devices contribute to solve very prevalent pathologies such as upper urinary tract lithiasis. However, there are very frequent symptoms associated with double J catheters that may produce a very important constraint on the quality of life of patients.

[Usefulness of urodynamics in the treatment of mixed urinary incontinence in women with suburethral slings].

Objective: The urodynamic results in suburethral slings (SS), are contradictory. We evaluate a series on patients with stress urinary incontinence (associated or not with bladder hyperactivity) that underwent suburethral slings (SS) operations.

Methods: 42 women (age 62±12 years) with urinary incontinence underwent suburethral slings (86% TOT, 12% TVT, 2% others), 36% of them with simultaneous pelvic organ prolapse correction.

Introduction: The cystographic study of patients who have undergone radiotherapy (RT) and pelvic surgeries is uncommon in the literature, not described in patients without complications, and mostly related to urinary fistulae.

Objective: The study of the lower urinary tract (LUT) by cystography in these patients, with a description of some other types of radiation lesions.

Methods: 127 cystographies have been performed (88 men and 39 women) in consecutive patients undergoing radiotherapy (RT) (48 monotherapy and 79 cases combined with surgery), with a mean age of 69.

[Effects of preventive double-J stent placement in ureteral obstruction treatment with metal stents on animal model].

Objectives: The purpose of this experimental study is to assess the additive effects of temporary JJ stent placement together with metal stents (MS) in the treatment obstructive uropathy, in order to reduce urothelial hyperplasia formation.

Methods: Twenty-four pigs were included, and an experimental model of obstructive uropathy was created. Six weeks after obstructive uropathy model induction, ureteral obstruction was confirmed using ultrasonography, ureteropyelography and endoluminal ultrasound.

The presence of a hemoglobin variant can interfere with HbA1c quantification, requiring other analyses to clarify the results.

α-Conotoxins Identify the α3β4* Subtype as the Predominant Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Expressed in Human Adrenal Chromaffin Cells.

Ligands that selectively inhibit human α3β2 and α6β2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChRs) and not the closely related α3β4 and α6β4 subtypes are lacking. Current α-conotoxins (α-Ctxs) that discriminate among these nAChR subtypes in rat fail to discriminate among the human receptor homologs. In this study, we describe the development of α-Ctx LvIA(N9R,V10A) that is 3000-fold more potent on oocyte-expressed human α3β2 than α3β4 and 165-fold more potent on human α6/α3β2β3 than α6/α3β4 nAChRs.

Atypical diagnosis diagnosis by endoscopic capsule: Whipple's disease.

Whipple's disease is a chronic systemic infection produced by the actinomycete Tropheryma whipplei. Endoscopic tests are key in the diagnosis as they allow biopsy and histopathological examination for definitive diagnosis of this entity. We present a case of Whipple's disease where capsule endoscopy, uncommon for the diagnosis of this condition, was essential for it and its performance before and after antibiotic treatment allows to describe the macroscopic evolution of the findings in the small bowel.

[Implementation of a robot for the preparation of antineoplastic drugs in the Pharmacy Service].

Objective: To describe the implementation of a robot for the preparation of antineoplastic drugs in the Pharmacy Service and to be able to analyze the added value to pharmacotherapy.

Methods: The implementation was carried out in June 2012 at a tertiary level Hospital, taking place in two periods: 1- test period with the installation of the robot, with technical configuration of the equipment and validation of 29 active ingredients and the integration of electronic prescribing software with the robot application (9 months). 2- Usage period (22 months).

Scalp Metastases of Recurrent Meningiomas: Aggressive Behavior or Surgical Seeding?

Objective: Scalp metastases of meningiomas seldom have been reported. Here, we report a series of 4 cases of this rare event and discuss the relevant potential risk factors.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of patients treated for scalp metastases of meningiomas at our institution.

Objective: To report the data of the Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE working group for the years 2011 and 2012.

Methodology: We compiled the data from the on-line registry introduced by reviewers of NADYA group responsible for monitoring of NPD introduced by since January 1, 2011 to december 31, 2012. Included fields were: age, sex, diagnosis and reason for HPN, access path, complications, beginning and end dates, complementary oral or enteral nutrition, activity level, autonomy degree, product and fungible material supply, withdrawal reason and intestinal transplant indication.

Background And Objective: To study the factors associated with prolonged hospitalization in patients admitted for acute heart failure (AHF) in Spanish short-stay units (SSUs).

Patients And Methods: This was a multicentre, multipurpose cohort study with prospective follow-up including all patients admitted for AHF in the 11 SSUs of the EAHFE registry. In addition to the known effects on drug metabolism and response, functional polymorphisms of genes coding for xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes (XME) play a role in cancer. Genes coding for XME act as low-penetrance genes and confer modest but consistent and significant risks for a variety of cancers related to the interaction of environmental and genetic factors. Consistent evidence supports a role for polymorphisms of the cytochrome P450 CYP2C9 gene as a protecting factor for colorectal cancer susceptibility.

Personality profiles between obese and control subjects assessed with five standardized personality scales.

Background/aim: Psychopathology may exert influence on developing and maintaining obesity. Studies of personality traits or psychopathology of personality in obesity are scarce and contradictory. The aim of this study was to compare personality profiles between obese and normal-weight subjects and to determine the most useful tool to detect differences, considering that psychological assessment and psychotherapeutical support should be included within the overall management of these patients.
